In US 25% of Iranians are Muslims and the rest are not so people will more likely meet a non Muslim Iranian and formulate opinion based on that, they will come to the conclusion that Iranians hate Islam because the 75% Iranian Americans hate Islam themselves for the fact that many left the country around 1979.

Even recent refugees of Iran tend to have a dislike of religion.

.
A very thoughtful question. :coffee:

the reality is most of iranians were religious in 1979, but the islamic government showed the true face of islamists to iranians. thats why nowadays most of iranians are not religious and there is a very fast growing atheist/agnostic minority in Iran.

many of iranians have been killed by Islamic government, you may wanna also search for "1988 executions of Iranian political prisoners"

Even recent refugees of Iran tend to have a dislike of religion.

Thats true, because islamists are still suffering people in Iran.

I bolded the key word in that. A refugee from anywhere would have nothing good to say about the place he left or the government in said place.

That is true that the government in Iran made a lot of mistakes that alienated people, but hopefully things turn around now that the new President is in charge, if most Iranians had given up on the system they would not have celebrated in the streets not to long ago over their choice in the Presidential elections.

I would even dare to say that a majority of the Iranian youth would definitely leave the country if they had the opportunity.

honestly, based on my experience, I am not optimistic about this new mullah president, and I consider it as a shame for iranian people that after thousands of years of civilization, such mullah scums are ruling Iran.
Iranians were happy because they felt that they have elected the better choice between scums. but the fact is that they hadn't any other choice and this mullah was the best based on opinion of majority of people.

That is sad but how come Iranians in Iran here never portray the doom and gloom you talk about?

I hope things change if that is really the case.

So even the current President is a scumbag?

yes, definitely he is a scumbag. he puts on nicer suits and he has a smile on his face from time to time but his mentality is the same as khamenei and ahmadinejad. FYI, he has been the head of national security council of Iran and he has had strong connections with intelligence system of Iran and thats why many of his ministers are previous intelligence officials.

I would even dare to say that a majority of the Iranian youth would definitely leave the country if they had the opportunity.

its sad but true.

Do not judge based on the words of one person only, everyone has his personal opinion and we have 77 million different opinion.

Many people are hopeful about new president, he and his team are very skillful diplomats and politicians and incomparable to Ahmadinejad in foreign policy. He sworn in no more than 2 months ago and there are strong rumors that Obama and Rohani may meet each other in UN general assembly, something that neither Americans or Iranians even dreamed few months ago.

I believe people who live inside Iran have a more clear view about domestic situation, people, demographics and etc compared to ones who barely visit their country in a year or even years.

Various reporters who visited Iran have all mentioned skepticism among Iranians about Rouhani, even the ones who voted for him. They voted for him because he was the 'least of all evils', not because he was their ideal candidate. In the end, people in Iran have more trust in Amoo Norooz than in a mullah.

I never said all the people love or die for Rohani, but a good majority do support him and have hope in him. He has just came in to office and it's too soon to say people are totally disappointed at him.
You may want to put the bias against the regime aside and then see the reality. And what you see/read/hear in media about Iran while sitting in Amsterdam is not always a 100% accurate.

I have the same access to those 'free' media that you do, but with some means that you don't use. That doesn't give you any upper hand here.
You 'talk' with people in Iran randomly, I live with people in Iran, that's the difference.

True that is like me trying to say I know about Pakistan's situation than people living inside Pakistan. :cheesy:

Pretty presumptuous imo.
