Doctors in Chicago offer free community healthcare

Cuz we are talking about medical colleges/doctors and not bonded labor camps/slaves?

Do you think honesty of this sort exists in people who not only ran away, and did not do anything either?

Set an example that will be hard to forget. Serves them right.

........... and did not do anything either?

.................

Perhaps this list of projects initiated and/or supported by those who went abroad missed your kind attention?

Here is a partial list of these projects, in particular a few that would not have been possible from local resources only:

- NICH Cytogenetic Laboratory Karachi
- Civil Hospital Laboratory Karachi
- Civil Hospital ICU Unit Karachi
- Fatima Jinnah Med. College Library Lahore
- Allied Hospital Pediatric ICU Unit Faisalabad
- RMC Burn Center Rawalpindi
- APPNA Orthopedic and Rehab Center Rawalpindi
- Scholarship Programs of Nishtar, Dow, and King Edward Alumni
- Telemedicine Network District, Mardan
- King Edward Med. College Learning Center Lahore
- Children ICU Project, Allied Hospiatal, Faisalabad
- Emergency Response Ambulance Fleet for Peshawar and Swat

Surely these count for something, at the very least.

ARACHI: NICH gets cytogenetic laboratory

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Dec 28: A multi-donor sponsored high-tech laboratory for diagnosis of childhood cancers and congenital malformations will become operational at the National Institute of Child Health in the next three months. Speakers from among the donors and the public sector institutes at a presentation ceremony on Thursday said the laboratory, Cytogenetic Laboratory, is the first facility of its kind in the public sector and would go a long way in early detection of severe diseases in children belonging to poor families.

The Director NICH, Professor Afroze Ramzan, said the partners in the project were from Association of Pakistani Physicians of North America (Appna), Child Aid Association, NICH and the Department of Cytogenetics, Texas Children Hospital besides local donors and dignitaries. The project will offer better diagnosis for complicated or severe cancer problems and other diseases in children.

President Child Aid Association (CAA) Prof Nizamul Hassan, said the cytogenetic laboratory at NICH was becoming a reality due to support from Appna.

President Appna Dr A R Piracha, hoped the lab would serve as a trainng place in cytogenetics. Dr Nadeem Zafar, an Appna member, informed the gathering how funds were raised for the project.

He said another $10,000 was likely from the Rotary Foundation. Dr Shama Munim of AKU spoke on “role of cytogenetics in antenatal practices.” Dr Khalid Mahmood of NICH highlighted the role of cytogenetics in paediatrics.

Ever been to these places and seen how they are?

Digging up 2006 archives is quite convenient, but do you know most of the "poor" patients who visit NICH cannot even afford 100 rupee tablets, let alone 5000 rupee tests?

This is the tariff rate at NICH: Yahoo! Groups

Don't just put things blindly please...

Meanwhile, as doctors who studied on Pakistani govt money offered free services to people in Chicago and saved the day, doctors who stayed on in Pakistan fight corruption and illegal appointments, and get a poor headline for that:

Young doctors: more protests less service | DAWN.COM

The lack of a proper service structure for doctors has been a demand long denied by the bureaucracy, and one of the prime factors leading them to seek better opportunities elsewhere. Those policies are made by the government, not by senior doctors.

My point was simply to indicate that the cytogenetics lab was created with expat help, that is all. The way the rest of the NICH is run, or other social ills like poverty, has more to do with other local issues.

These are good examples of the ongoing efforts by expatriates to support Pakistan in times of special needs, in addition to the routine projects. Thank you for that post.
