Doctors in Chicago offer free community healthcare

the true pakistani american volunteers, for example my far relative came from america and volunteered for pakistan earthquake relief, thats called volunteering

Speak to these opportunists and you will know that the majority thinks that Pakistanis tau sab scum of the earth hain who do not deserve to be treated like humans.

Running a free clinic and helping people with no insurance is more worthy of their attention, and obviously as Dr Khan said, " the paid work he does during the week does not come close to the satisfaction he feels when a patient thanks him at the end of a consultation" in a clinic that treats "about 25 patients on a given day in the four hours it is open."

Obviously, for the journo to see a doc stay on his feet, and touching someone's feet is so random! Yayyyy... news story!

I just wished that they put same effort in Pakistan too. I dont this that its just a photo-op.Such associations of desi Docs do exists in USA which help desi community in free medical check ups etc.Various indian organisation also conduct medical camps during hindu festival celebration sometimes at temples.two camps i saw one in Pittsburgh Balaji temple and other at barsana dham, austin.

Nope they don't, and whatever little they do put in they make it seem as if there is nothing beating it. Like I said, more shoda-pan (showing off) than anything.

.
There are many projects directly supported by APPNA within Pakistan too:

Other Projects

Here is a partial list of these projects, in particular a few that would not have been possible from local resources only:

- NICH Cytogenetic Laboratory Karachi
- Civil Hospital Laboratory Karachi
- Civil Hospital ICU Unit Karachi
- Fatima Jinnah Med. College Library Lahore
- Allied Hospital Pediatric ICU Unit Faisalabad
- RMC Burn Center Rawalpindi
- APPNA Orthopedic and Rehab Center Rawalpindi
- Scholarship Programs of Nishtar, Dow, and King Edward Alumni
- Telemedicine Network District, Mardan
- King Edward Med. College Learning Center Lahore
- Children ICU Project, Allied Hospiatal, Faisalabad
- Emergency Response Ambulance Fleet for Peshawar and Swat

.
Your logic is so flawed. Most of these people in APPNA went to govt schools and medical colleges, studied on subsidized fees and left the country at the first opportunity given. They are nothing but opportunists who have nothing for their country, and hence feel that running a clinic in Chicago is such great work when people in a third world country such as Pakistan could benefit by many of these doctors who studied on state funding coming back, and training people here.

I maintain, their degrees should be revoked. Period.

Not only that... it's their country that gave them so much and they are not bothered to return it.

Even an Indian can see that!

Well, we are intending on enforcing bonds to plug such migration;

Govt plans bonds to stop doctors' brain drain - Times Of India

Even an Indian can tell you that !!!

I'm merely speaking from my exp. Coz what i've known doctors in my parents circle in usa and even in india who come to india to perform complex surgeries and they dont charge anything. our hospital performs all those surgeries on behalf of prerna basically the 40% of its beds are always reserved for patients who have no money.so they do avail treatment through either prerna or Rajiv Gandhi arogya scheme.

My point was that trying to stop such a natural trend would be futile in the long run.

It's a start. While I do agree that this might not be the best way to go about it but given our dire shortage of doctors, we need to do our best to retain medical professionals. As I understand it, the United States now requires a NOC/GSC from the Indian government for doctors to practice so it's not a lost cause altogether.

The best way to retain trained professionals is to provide them with the correct tools and policies to enable them to do their work.

we need to do our best to retain medical professionals..

Policies are made by senior members of the profession. If they shun their duties, they are the ones who should be held guilty and tried. Like I said revoke their degrees. They wasted resources and have not returned anything to this country in terms of policy making.

I mean seriously, running a free health camp that caters to 25 people in Chicago is so ground-breaking, that they feel so satisfied, you can guess the rest...

^^^ Agreed, but extensive action like revoking degrees might be a little too harsh. Yes, the subsidies provided to medical professionals should be taken into account and the domestic doctor-to-population ratios are alarming to belt out some tough stances. However, you really can't enforce patriotism on anyone. At best, all you can do is to ask for a big fat cheque for the services rendered by the state if they choose to migrate :D.

Why harsh?

Till we don't crack the whip, they don't come back with their experiences that they acquired on nearly free education paid for by the government of Pakistan.

Cuz we are talking about medical colleges/doctors and not bonded labor camps/slaves?
