I've got a young doctor cousin, let's analyze why they're striking. The main reason is that they've got families to feed. Young does not mean fresh out of college like it does for engineers. Until one SPECIALISES, he's a young doctor. Now, that takes, on average, 10 years.
Now here's the thing, you can't marry or do anything with your life for those 10 years because you'll hardly be able to support yourself. Also, one lie perpetuated by the media that I would like to bust is that the doctors have the Emergency ward open, only the OPD is closed, all patients in danger are being treated
My couisin (Mayo hospital), was working at the emergency at night, sunday night, and then suddenly YDA people came in and wooed everyone away from the Indoor, outdoor, Emergency, everywhere.
My cousin was writing somebody a subscription when she ran away from there, fearing for her life. The doctors left everyone patient on his own, and just ran from there.
point is, that the doctors are wrong in their methods, and so is the government.
Not all young doctors are wanting to go on strike, even though their demand is same, i.e a proper promotion system, but they are forced to by YDA, or else get harassed.
They should atleast not leave their petients in the dark.
Another one of my relative was called today from Islamabad, a senior doctor (assistant professor), to work a 6 hour shift in emergency in place of the YDA doctors. So, emergencies have also been
abandoned in some places.
Doctors should come back from strike, and then pursue their demands, which are right and justifiable, some of them.
Doctors can't get directly into 19 grade, but should be given a proper service structure and promotion system.
point is, that in negotiating, you set the bar 10 meters high, while you settle for 8 in the end.
Well, personally I think the time to get back to work is over. They were given a deadline to resume duties which they crossed. After that, there shouldn't be any turning back. The Government needs to make an example out of them otherwise this will become a norm and will repeat itself every few months to every few years.
Yeah, government should keep on beating them to un-conciousness eh?
Look man, I am not supporting the doctors, but my point is that there demands are legitimate, i.e a proper promotion system, but their methods are wrong.
Abandoning a patient is no way to get a service structure.
Same time, this government is acting like a dictatorial rule, beating every doctor they see!
Ego of Shahbaz Sharif vs the Stupidity of doctors.
Doctors should be given another deadline of a week, to return to work, and only then negotiations can take place.
As i said, you set the bar at 10, but settle for 8. All the parties should show some flexibility.
The government does not have money (reasons for not having money could be agreed upon i.e stupid laptop scheme etc etc)
