Yes, we need more nukes.

For Pakistan at least = 25-30.

For China minimum = 120-130.

As china is vast and have technologies to counter missiles.

There are about 30 chinese cities like shenzhen, Hong Kong, Beijing, Shanghai, Macao, Guangzhou, Tianjin etc.

Then there are about 20 strategic targets like Lanzhou Military Region, Chengdu Military Region, Nanjing Military Region, Jinan Military Region etc.

Then there are some 10-20 high value targets like three gorges dam etc.

For above 60-70 must hit targets we need 2-3 nukes each target.

Then we need SLBMs and that should be at least 80-100 nukes.

So in the end 30 + 130 + 100 = 260 nukes minimum as we have some very serious threats that too multiple threats.

But we should always upgrade them with latest technologies and better delivery systems. More nukes costs more and they need high maintenance and preservation costs.

AFAIK - no one knows , not even close to no of nukes we are hanging on . Or Pakistan is hanging on .

If its about number of Nukes well , the figures were estimated by an International watchdog , u can Google it to confirm

As far as Subs are concerned , antony has given aproval for 4 Arihant class subs , 2 of which will carry 12 K15 Ballistic Missiles and another 2 will carry 8 K4 Ballistic Missile with MIRV , the last 2 subs would be larger than first 2 at 7200 Tons becoz they will be build ground up to carry K4 ballistic Missile

Frankly i dont think India will ever operate more than 120 Nuclear warhead

They might Increase there Stock of Fissile material to enough for 300 warheads from its present 180 warhead , but i dont think India will increase the number of active warhead by much
Though I have heard that SNC might decide to increase the Number of Deployed warheads from 18-20 at present to 60+ by 2015 , out of which 30 of them could be sea based

read my post #14 and remember to leave a thanks for its brillant analysis . Btw , you don't need to blow up every city... the radius of a nuclear fall out can wipe out 1/2 the country at times depending on the weather patterns. but read my post #14 here

Again, you're avoiding my question. I understand what "high value" means. Three gorges is a high value target because it generates 22,500 MW of electricity and you would cause flooding downstream. I don't work for the targeting department of the 2nd Artillery Corp. I asked a legitimate question. China would obviously nuke India's high population centers and military bases. Now, what would the high value / strategic assets be in India??

then learn to use your noggin to think what you must use as key words when thinking high vaule ... start with this .

Buy one way ticket back to china and visit every high vaule asset you have in china and then see if india has it. like dams , or oh boy maybe hmmm- nuclear power plants or look I found a word called power grids... wow they have railways and ship yards. LOL
