I dont think the issues will ever be resolved. Unless, US, China and others are destroyed lock, tsock and barrel...and tahst not going to happen.

I always believed if the partition was based on similar culture the whole of Hindi and Urdu Speaking Pakistan and north India should have been 1 country and the now south India should have been the other one.

The southies are absolutly different from the north Indians and northies can actually relate more to a Pakistani than a South Indian.

Wow! Intoxicated by irrational exuberance. Southies, Northies? What about easties? You are so happy to draw a connection with people who have already made a choice that they want nothing to do with you and to do that, you are even willing to sacrifice other parts of your country. BTW " Southies" don't have one single culture.

Leave the Pakistanis alone. It's people like you who keep insisting that you are "one people" who make them nervous to a point where they start drawing their lineage from outside the sub continent. Whatever the past it's time to move on. Problems of the present can only be solved by having a vision for the future, not by harking back to the past.

Bang - Galore - there are few topics that we touch upon...I may not agree with the previous post on saying that entire north india should have been 1 country and south another...no ...but there are some serious issues that we should admit and open our eyes to...else we are living in denial and will never be make india the country we want...

Entire France speak French, Russia speak russian -

Tell me what is our national language? Hindi - and entire NE'n India speak that language - how many South Indian states even know the language - I have lived in Chennai and Bangalore enough to comment on this - people in Chennai even claim that Hindi is NOT our national language hence we need not learn. Forget the metro cities...like that u live in...lets get into interiors of TN - Kerela - Karnataka - and you will not find more than 2% population who even understands our RASHTRA BHASHA...NE has issues but they are united with the nation with language...other countries take pride in their national language and we dont even understand it...

I agree that we will not solve problems by saying if this had happened or that should have happend in past...what has happened has happened - we need to look forward from here...but u just pounced on a pakistani making a comment on regional distribution which should have been done in past - but that is exactly what we are asking for in our country TODAY and not in past - we are cutting and killing one another on the same. Mumbai for instance - kills their own countrymen - north indians - they insist on marathi be spoken every where and not the national language - if i am on street of mumbai and in trouble i am scared if police will help me or not as i do not speak MARATHI (Regional) and only know HINDI (National)...we need to look into mirror, sort our internal issues and then fight comments comming from across the border - coz they will use these examples to site and say how screwed we are within oursleves...

Talk about ignorance :disagree: WE DON'T HAVE A NATIONAL LANGUAGE. We only have an official languages those are English and Hindi. As an 'Southi' I am extremely proud of our culture, north indians must understand that hindi sounds as alien to us as Chineese does .....i being from andhra, our language has roots in tamil with some imports from sanskrit. So it is INFINITELY more difficult for us to learn hindi than say a gujarati.

AS A FELLOW INDIAN, I will gladly give my life to protect you. But I would rather die than relegate my culture and language. I thought we indians would have learnt from pakistan's mess in bangladesh. I guess we did'nt.

We are one country because we have the humility to respect each other culture, language and accept each others differences and diversities. We are not your slaves, and you our masters for us to learn hindi so that you could live life happily in chennai or bangalore. We are not your clones. We are your EQUALS.:hitwall:

Already one part of the country separated looking for COMMONALITY in religion. Now we have idiots like you looking for commonality. You can happily emigrate to pakistan if you are looking for commanality in culture. Only people we can appreciate the idea of India(Unity in Diversity) have a right to live in this country.

p.s. India cannot be defined based on something as insignificant as language and culture or religion. We are a country based on higher ideals like equality, democracy, secularism and RESPECT for other cultures. I am ashamed to call u indian

wow lets take it one by one - that is our exact problem - we keep region before nation !!! that is exactly what you are doing...having pride in ur regional culture is great - but if i ask u to have pride in ur national charachter u have a problem

I stayed in chennai for 1 yr - and leart the languge speak and read - many stay in India for years but cannot speak hindi.

I need not migrate to Pakistan - but yes you have shown ur loyalty to ur country by moving to SG...

I am not looking for COMMANILITY i am looking for something that UNITES the country and not DIVIDE...sorry to say that u just could not see my frustration which i have being a die hard patriotic - hence what is happening in india matters to me...and i want to solve it - read my last line i said WE NEED TO SORT ISSUES INTERNALLY FIRST ELSE PPL FROM ACROSS BORDER WILL USE IT AGAINST US.

we should have learnt from british divide and rule...but no...we still want to divite ourselves...good luck to my country as we have people like u around who rather look at TN, Bihar, Kerela than INDIA. for me country comes first and then my language, religion, state that i come from...

I rest my case !!!

Can't I ******* go aborad to study? :hitwall:
Never ever compare India to european countries. Those countries were formed because they are same ethnic group, speak same language. It does not work here . We are unique as a country. As I stated earlier India as a country is based not on similarity but on differences.

How do you define an Indian ?

According to what you wrote : A person who speaks hindi.

According to me: Whatever the color, language, caste, culture ....a person who believes in the idea of INDIA, able to respect other's cultures, religion where we are not forced to LEARN a particular language. For me the only criteria for being indian is to love your country. They may be north indian or south indian you may be a devil worshipper for all i care and speak zulu i don't care as long as you love your country you are good to me.

p.s. There is no INDIAN CULTURE, there is punjabi culture, andhra culture.....etc.
But what does India have ....IDEALS ...unity in diversity, secularism....these are what I stand for and these are what I will protect and strive for as a patriotic Indian.

There is one and only one way that there will ever be peace between India and Pakistan. People to people contact. Till that happens and both populations continue 6 decades of isolation vis-a-vis one another, both people will continue to troop along lines decided for them by their respective leaderships. Yes this will come with inherent risks of making it easier for those with evil intent to move across borders and cause harm, but such people generally find a way anyway. The upside will always be that good people will get the chance to interact too and I personally believe that the good will always outnumber the bad, even if its Pakistan.

Agreed 100% - but then why are north indians attacked in Mumbai when they go there to work? are they not Indians?

Why is a person from UP forced to learn Marathi when he comes to mumbai to prove that he loves Maharashtra? is his love for India not enough???

A small issue on Hindu / Muslim can create riots everywhere - why are we not suppose to be secular?

Any terror attack in India by any Islamic group - why does every Muslim in India be defensive (lets leave the elite out of this) and keep talking of their loyalty to the country? - why does he have to prove his loyalty time and again...?

Try to see what I am saying - if we divide withitn ourselves - we can NEVER fight external forces ...

dude all I am saying is that our country was formed on some excellent ideals. We are indeed lucky to have such leaders like sardar patel and likes. We have a strong basis for it. Unfortunatley we have a*ss holes who care zilch about those ideals like MNS, Shivsena, laloo who for their personal profits.

You don't blame islam for terrorism caused by some extremist muslims do you? Similarly you don't blame the countries ideals just because some selflist bastards missused then for their own good.

All i am saying is for us to succeed and stay united we must stick to our ideals and neutralise entities like shivsena , indian mujahedeen or whatever which are a danger to those ideals. Making everyone speak hindi or telugu or tamil will not unite people.
We have a very good example in our neighbour...for good or bad they formed their country on religion....but did they stick to it. they brought ethnicities, language and other **** into the picture and the result you have bangladesh.

I hope you see my point. You need to seriously change your thinking.

change my thinking why?

1. i condemn the parties like MNS and other Sena's ....

2. Am i not asking for a UNITED INDIA ?

3. Am i not seeking togetherness in all religions/ region, states within our country...(we could differ on the path and method- but the end result i ask for is - ONE COUNTRY)

or do you not want any of the above 3...? and if u do...why do u ask me to change my thinking?

you are one emotional dude :cheers:

I am asking you to change the WAY you plan to unite the country , instead of using language, culture and religion i am asking you unite the country democracry and secularism.

We do not need this.......RASHTRA BHASHA thing imposing it on others etc. , and look what you wrote NE are united with nation BECAUSE of LANGUAGE. No they are united because they love the country. So Tamilians don't speak hindi but they are united with the nation because of .....what? Yes, because they love india. You can't use that logic.

This will be my last post on this topic I dont want to derail the thread if you want to discuss about it you can open a new thread.

boss u are vry young and taking a very micro view to what i had said and draging one language thing...and ignorning anything else that i may have spoken about...did you even read when i said - the end result is ONE COUNTRY and path can be any...

look at the macro view to what i speak...

let me tell u why i see a difference in our thinking...i belong to family of defence forces...like u see ocean and u only see water....u look at my family and u only see Airforce and Army...so this is how we are trained to think...

1. we are trained to look as India as india and ignore the states
2. we are trained to ignore any language difference within us
3. we are trained to ignore and religion differnce betwen us
4. we are trained to ignore any cast difference between us...
5. we are posted in eastern india to southern india to western or the front...and live in INDIA and not in states.

hence for me - INDIA is one entity and other states do not exist. coz when the men in forces die fighting a war - they die for the country and not states. they take pride in being from india and not from regions...u will probably never get it.

YES I AM EMOTIONAL WHEN IT COMES TO MY NATION

Stripped to complete brasstacks, the best incentive to stop us killing one another is for the other to be more useful to us alive. Besides the omnipresent fear of being killed ourselves of course, before the nuclear parity chest thumpers jump in with the usual rhetoric. Is it not time that we start exploring those aspects and explore novel symbiotic relationships based on current reality? What does India have that Pakistan wants? What does Pakistan have that India wants? And no, lets leave Kashmir out cause thats a serious deadend. While we're at it, lets also leave Indian beauties and Pakistani studs out please. ;) Just throwing an idea out there for people here to chew on. Lets take water. Can Pakistan plausibally become the sub-continent's rice/bread bowl, using Indian water, Pakistani soil, Pakistani manpower, while India progressively becomes increasingly urbanised with conversion of land and economy from agrarian to industrial? Of-course certain threshold levels of self-sufficiency in foodgrains would need to be maintained, but we buy a lot from overseas anyway. Why not from our neighbour, who needs our water anyways? Better that nuking each other for the water anyways. And large sections of unemployed poor Pakistani youth get employment which would be more attractive than taking up the gun. And large sections of Indian rural youth would get an opportunity or at least the choice of moving towards different non-agrarian pastures as land holdings become smaller and more untenable economically by the generation. Its already started in Punjab to a large extent.
