What's new

Do I just represent the ‘honor’ of the men in my family?

If you guys try to wear jeans during the summer in south Punjab, you will get rash and poras all over your legs and private areas.

Then you have to go buy

What kind of jeans you been wearing? the brand 'BeeHive' ?

Men should have zero say in what women wear. Let them find comfort in whatever way that pleases them.
Stop insulting Men !!

I don't necessarily believe it's about being looked as modern. Students at Universities wear this, Centaurus mall is full of it, Khosar markaz too, many wear it with long kurtas or wrap a shawl. Each to their own in whatever one feels comfortable in.

Indeed it is their own choice and it is not uncommon in Pakistan so I wonder why people would think if girls here do not wear it or not allowed to.

As far as this modern phobia it does exist in desi countries like ours.

It can happen to anyone wearing jeans in south Punjab. Do you know how hot it gets in the summer?

Stop insulting your own intelligence!

It's not me, but happened to a lot of my cousins that came from England. I typically wear shalwar kameez in Pakistan. In fact I even wear shalwar kameez at home in the US.

The thing is that denim is not a very breathable fabric.

they can. universities are filled with the girls wearing western attires my own sister is one of them.

Question shouldn't be they can or not .......... women in Pakistan are powerful in their own way ........... I have seen fathers and husbands succumb to the blackmail.

One's freedom should end at choosing and wearing a revealing tight clothing ........... this in no way should have any problems with or object to what others' eyes see.

Respect Ms. Robinson,

Everyone has their own opinion. Respect it as a difference of opinion, ignore it as it should really not bother you. There is no point in going around circles.

Respect the beautiful culture which allows you to do anything you want. I was hoping to see Afghans in Bikini post invasion but they are still not wearing them.

If a piece of clothing has more value than the person itself, then we should all become Nudists or forced to be otherwise we can never reach a logical conclusion to this debate.

I place 'i take offense with niqaab since i cannot communicate' and 'i take offense if a women is dressed in 'western' attire' both in the same category.

Respected Ed,

Not quite so, one was a matter of security, in addition people wear eastern clothes in Western countries and no one gets judged for it nor labelled as a 'conservative' or 'backward' the diversity in culture is very much accepted and celebrated. That's the difference.

A peice of clothing does not take more value but the terms used to an individual who wears a certain attire is.

Many thanks.

You still haven't shown how make-up is not a security threat.

Also, where religion has given clear guidance, as is the case in clothing, anything that deviates from it shall be considered offensive.

It was raised because prior to that post, when I mentioned I had worn western clothing in Pakistan a member referred to it as 'shameless and libtard' - it may not be their preference but to word someone in such manner is wrong because that is ultimately attacking one's character and integrity. Desi clothes in Pakistan are also sleeveless, peek-a-boo shoulders and Capri pants which reveal ankles so to label an individual in moderate western clothing in derogatory terms was inappropriate.

This hit so close as a person who had to move back to Pakistan permanently in teenage years.
I love my religion and i like my country but its a prison. I want to leave this place so bad.
Which job are you not allowed to pursue under law?Does the law stops you from owning property, being independent i see single independent women all around me perusing their dreams maybe if you would just suck it up and actually work toward your goal life would be way easier

You should take a course in discrete mathematics and learn logical deduction. Because you reach the wrong conclusions.

Honorable Ms. Robinson,

We are in agreement in that thread. I will not post anything more related to that.

And I agree, a piece of clothing is of now value, the human behind that is.

It is a cultural thing. Takes time and effort. Just accept that and adopt furthermore I hardly think anyone in Pakistan dresses provocatively.

There is a lot of sexual frustration in the sub continent in general brought upon by a confused culture. Just look at what the brown people are doing in India.

I am a Muslim feminist for which i have faced enough problems in my life.
