What's new

Divides in Indian Society.

Not really. What she has said is really not that bad, or big of a deal. She did not insult hinduism.

If people can't even take what she has to say without resorting to violence, that is not a good sign. You should be promoting and encouraging freedom of speech, as long as it is not encouraging violence and hatred.

You should want India to be more open, more freedom of speech, less hatred, and more community. These things would make more more proud of my country. Personally, I don't understand people who don't want this for their country.

I am not against freedom of speech she is free to write anything anywhere. She is writing na. No one is arresting her but Its my right to criticize her wwork so I am doing that.India is more than you think.People can abuse PM, Can compare RSS with ISIS without any facts.RSS is a democratic group of around 6 million people. If they were ISIS There would not be any Muslims in India and Pakistan. People are free to write, free to read and free to give opinion but I am free to criticize too.Giving response to anything is not intolerance I felt that Writers who return awards are most intolerant they couldn't wait to talk to Govt and just go all out this is intolerance too

Holy sh1te! if this isn't a thread about propagating the failing state of the secular Indian constitution than i'll be damned.
The Indian constitution would call out any abomination, because India does have opposing views and the union is only a union at its core thanks to the constitution. What does this mean? Well, the fact that India is having this discussion means, India is alive and healthy. But you believe India will see violence on the lines of partition? lol are you insane?
The powers that be have power to stop this and most importantly the people of India are not the same people of 1947. Those guys already left.
60 years of India's parliament rule hasn't been a smooth ride but considering its still going, I don't think anything is under threat.
Rather on a positive note, if so take note. You'll see that India is constantly having healthy discussions ones that decide the out come of federal law or state. You don't see this happening on the same scale in Pakistan, Iran, NK, and China. And it is these regimes that have difficult time ahead. Pakistan already is still undergoing a shift of power from Military to civilian authority and that to has been violent.

So Lalu and Nitish again.

And Biharis keep streaming into Maharashtra.

How cute.
You have a point here.

Right now the rest of India is acting as a safety valve for Bihar. If that safety valve got a lot smaller, maybe enough steam would build up within the state for this sorry excuse of an electorate to vote for development over patronage.

How much of this is lack of self belief on the part of Biharis? - just a thought to put out there.....

They are such a defeated people that they simply cannot imagine that there could ever be a modern or better Bihar - so why not settle for caste based patronage.

Lesson for BJP In this- never allow the opposition to unite completely against you.

Two points.

Your comment about the Biharis is utterly disgraceful. Really uncalled for.

As for the BJP dilemma, the same thing applies to every party or element in an election which is likely to win the largest number of votes but not achieve an absolute majority.

And this is not much better than your earlier post.

What is wrong with you?

You understand Biharis more than most Indians here.

They've given up on their state.

Migration de rigueur.

There is a reason why educated Biharis do brilliantly out of Bihar.

It's like Kal El sending his son to a distant planet as Krypton is about to implode.

Mr. S, - Bihar had 3 choices in front of them - 2 of which were on development plank and 1 was from a guy let out of prison and whose only promise was that if he gets in , he will let other members of his caste loot the state.

These people had supposedly free and fair elections ( though I have my doubts about EVMs) - what can you say about the mental state of an electorate that freely chooses a person who will now proceed to systematically siphon off common wealth into private hands when they had two other competent choices before them. All I can say is that these people have given up. They have always lived in a sh!thole and they don't think it can get better, so why not have a leader who will help them grab their share from the little dung pie they own.

Don't give me that "everyone is the same bla bla " ....Whether you are a bushman from the Kalahari or the heir to throne of Denmark, you will be judged by your actions not by your birth...and actions cannot be more cynical, self-doubting and pathetic than this....sometimes you gotta call a spade a spade and just move on.

Sorry to bump in as I saw the comparison between Bengal and Gujarat. May be the comparison will look more complete if instead of taking number of developed cities in to account only, we labor a bit more to include basic social development indicators like proportion of children enrolled in government schools, multi-dimensional poverty index, female literacy rates, proportion of children who pass simple reading skills, immunization rate, adult women below BMI etc too. My point is, an economic growth is complete only when it shows result in improving the quality of human lives.

In that case They should compare Gujarat with kerala....... It will be an interesting comparison...... The problem with us is, we compare the cities to come to conclusion, where as we all know India lives in its villages.........

Kerala performs exceptionally well!! Apart from Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu, states like Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand or even J & K are performing equally well if not less. As you rightly said, India is an agrarian based economy where billions live in rural areas; therefore counting number of smart cities to measure growth may not give much accurate results.

Not so clear a picture anymore, urban migration is changing situation quite rapidly.

But in the context of this thread - yes the divide is still there with people having varying priorities depending on the rural/urban factor.

The reason i brought kerala is to discuss this divide.......I am a guy who travel length and breadth of kerala every month.... Before that i was travelling TN, Karnataka & Goa. (we shall keep goa away from this equation for a while)..... One thing is very clear, There is no village (if i take the condition of average Village in India) in Kerala..... The development in cities is not significant, or i would say the cities has not grown or developed like their counterparts in other states...... The village i belong to would have a population of 3 to 4 thousand.... But this village has, a public health centre, a private hospital, 2 banks, 1 ATM, 2 schools,2 super markets, apart from other normal shops and other amnesties.... Every house has electricity and water and you have hardly anyone who is under poverty (not as per govt records, but in real sense)....... Similar is the case with other places too.....

I will take the opportunity to ask in return, what is the use of an industry based economy if large number of labors working in it can't even read, children are not immunized and their homes are without proper sanitation? Will you call it a development then too?

Gujarat is making progress on the Human Development Index front too
This is the latest news

This is indeed laudable - credit should go where due. However I think remittances factor is at play too.
