Disney restaurant hostess sues for permission to wear hijab

This is over the top, the Disney employee in question is a stage actor.
Actors appear in costume it is a job requirement, she was offered a backstage assignment which she refused. Gee.. hypersensitive much??
She's a waitress. I would understand if she was dressed like Mini Mouse and insisted on putting a head scarf on mini's head.

But this is the look:

The real idea behind putting her backstage is "Put the horrifying Muslims out of sight". It's a bias she must fight through litigation else it would pretty soon be okay to put all Muslims out of sight.

Have you ever been to Disney? :D
"Disney has a policy not to discriminate The resort offered Boudlal a chance to work with the head covering away from customers while Disneyland tries to find a compromise that would allow Boudlal to cover her head in a way that fits with her hostess uniform, stated Disneyland spokeswoman Suzi Brown.

"Typically, somebody in an on-stage position like hers wouldn't wear something like that, that's not part of the costume," Brown added. "We were trying to accommodate her with a backstage position that would allow her to work. We gave her a couple of different options, and she chose not to take those and to go home."

This is a very complicated issue.i am not sure what is right what is wrong.but i think both the parties have some genuine concerns which needs to be addresed.
in a school i think scarf should't be banned.
but if an actress or performer wants to weare it onstage it can't be allowed unlesss the role requires it.
jobs like air hostess, receptionist, athletes, army, etc where all we allow or bann ??
i think a case by case approach and compromises is better.

Disney, a private company, with their own set of rules including a particular dress code. They are not doing charity for universal diversity, they are in for a profit and some of that (infact a large amount of that) comes from a image they portray. As simple as that.

Secondly, as DBC said, its a stageshow. Disney is a huge stagemanaged show! Want interaction with people, follow rules of "engagement". Dont want that, there are other opportunities, which Disney in fact offered the woman in question. That "lady" refused and wanted to make a spectacle out of this affair. Enuf said about her intentions.

more hated will be grown after this in muslim all other religion's have right to wear their pagdi one boy refuse to attand school in canada remember he won the case similar one canadian sikh won case to wear pagdi in canadian airforce boys but seems like not muslims USA and canada no different to each other entire west has similar laws

On the contrary in most countries (as I can tell, especially in the US) private companies are subject to equal opportunity laws. If they are going to take away the opportunity of a Muslim American, then they are in violation of the law.

Being an equal opportunity employer has nothing to do with internal laws of a company, she was working there that makes Disney an equal opportunity employer, if Disney was prejudice about Muslims she wouldn't have been hired in the first place

Many religious beliefs come in the way of company discipline, it's up to employee and to some extent employer to determine where to draw the line or just move out

She is not harming the company in anyway, she is just wearing something on herself. She is wearing pants, shirts, no burkhas, no nikaab.

This argument holds no grounds. They are just perpetuating the stereotype against Muslims by fearing to expose a Muslim worker in the open.

That is for the management to decide, personally I don't see no harm in a head scarf but if the management decides let's keep religion out of a theme park for kids, I don't see no harm, if dress code is there every employee has to follow the same, it's simple

Again you can't have codes in a company that violate the equal opportunity employment law. If she can't be a Muslim and work at Disney in the same capacity as she did, then Disney is in violation. They can't decide to break the law. They can't have a policy against it.

She is not proselytizing religion, she is wearing a head scarf. The children at the very least should be grown in a non-xenophobic environment.

Following dress code is part of your job and if you can't that makes you incompetent, being an equal opportunity employer doesn't mean you will compromise on your company ethics, now you don't want to see a black burqa clad showing only eyes receptionist will you?

Same thing happened when me and one of my friends went to our manager to ask for permission, my friend happens to be Muslim and he wanted 15 min to be taken out for his namaz which he will compensate after the work hours but he was turned down, the manager said if I make an exception for you, i will have to do the same for everybody now this doesn't mean my firm is not an equal opportunities employer

You can't have dress codes that will exclude an entire religion out. This is the reason why almost all cases filed by Sikhs when employers forced them to remove the turban has been won by the employee.

Again, that's prayer and actual time-off of business hours and actual loss of business due to employee action. Why not compare it with the Sikh Turban cases which have always been found in favor of the sikh.

The slam dunk:

Disneyland 'banned worker's head scarf'

“Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 prohibits discrimination in the workplace on the basis of sex, race, and religion, among other factors,” attorney Fred S. Peters told OC180NEWS. “If an employee's religiously expressive garment can be reasonably accommodated--in other words if the employee can do his or her job just as well when wearing the religiously expressive item--then it is incumbent on the employer to accommodate that expression.”

To express your religious identity, is a right accorded to all Americans by law. You can't stop it.
