Discrediting PIA claim of Losses , by Logical Day by Day Analysis of Operations

So recalculation gives us 19000/ 33 = 576 employees per aircraft..

Loll what a joke of an organization.. and even with this ratio, you regularly get to see teared off seat covers, broken equipment, dirty windows and fuselage.. loll

@Indus Pakistan

Can you believe Ryan Air flies to 220 cities, has 450 airplanes and most staggering the workers per plane - Ryan Air manages it with just 28 workers per plane !

Ryan Air - 28
PIA - 424

By the way, @Indus Pakistan , this is an eye opening report.. how the jobs have been distributed..

Thanks. This article merely confirms my suspicion that MQM has the biggest share in PIA. All governments have been stuffing their workers into PIA. The figures are -

PML-N - post 2013 ~1,000 workers
PPP - post 2008 ~ 1,3000 workers

But the rub is despite the extra workers placed by PPP/PML-N the gross number has come down to 14,000 from a high of 18.036 in 2008. So who was pumping in workers before 2008. That would be the decade rule of commando President Musharaf who relied on MQM. So my suspicion is even today majority are MQM appointees from 2000s. Quote from your link -

"During the tenures of both governments, the overall number of PIA employees has come down from 18,036 in 2008 to 14,847 by the end of 2015. Had the PML-N not given 1,000 more jobs, the number would have gone down below 14,000."

But if you look at the below image you will realize that in 2004 the number was more than 19000 regular employees.. 19,634.. and PIA was in profit in 2004.. So the hiring was done before 2000s.. Am I making sense?

. .
Ryan Air has 13,000 employees and operates 450 aircraft. PIA has 14,000 workers and operates 33 aircraft. Workers per plane -

PIA 14,000/33 = 424
Ryan 13,000/450 = 28

Destination cities -

PIA - 53
Ryan - 220

And people wonder why PIA makes losses and other airlines make huge profits even when they employ expensive aircrews.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pakistan_International_Airlines
PIA flies to roughly 40 destinations. It has suspended operations on many international and local routes. Some of these come under code-share agreements which may or may not be profitable.

.
When I have traveled across North America , normally what I see is a plane comes and then it has a dedicated staff. On Average

Internal USA routes which is a massive country

Plane Crew: 2 Pilots and 3 Air Hosts , so total is 5
Ground Crew : 3 Counter people
Baggage : 3 people

1 Plane ~ 11 people

The claim that "PIA needs 424 people for 1 Plane is a massively abnormal figure"

Outlook with 8,000 Employees

Grade A : 1,50,000/Month
Grade B : 50,000/Month

Yearly Acceptable Salary Expenses for PIA :
  • 50% Make 50,000 Rupee per month ~ 4,000 x 50,000 x 12 div 125 rupee = 19,200,000 (19 Million Dollars salaries paid in year)
  • 50% Make 1 Lakh Rupee per month ~ 4,000 x 1,50,000 x 12 div 125 rupee = 57,600,000 (57 Million Dollars salaries paid in year)

Hourly Rate of 50% who make 50,000 rupee per month ~ 39 Rupee per hour = 0.31 Cents per hour (talking in dollar figures now)
Hourly Rate of 50% who make 1,00,000 rupee per month ~ 78 Rupee per hour = 0.62 Cents per hour (talking in dollar figures now)

If we looked at PIA's planning from 8,000 Employee perspective it looks a fantastic company

Revenue: 971 Million Dollars

Expenses:
a) Salary for Workers : 76 Million Dollars (Pilots/Crew/Counter people/Handlers)
b) Pension : 5 Million Dollars
c) Welfare : 5 Million Dollars

Total Expenses : 86 Million Dollars (Cost Control / Employee number reduction)
Fuel Cost : 250 Million Dollars

---------------------------------------------------------------
Profit : 635,000,000 USD

Problem Solved for PIA
  • Sell Rosavelt Hotel , USA ~ 3.0 Billion Dollars , and Pay off all Debt be debt free
  • Sell Paris Hotel , 200 Million Dollars , and keep this for Pension Pay

Now PIA makes 635 Million Dollars per year Profits yearly

  • Put it for Privatization with Price Tag of 12 Billion Dollars company has to maintain tax base in Pakistan. Government retains 25% Profits.
