Discrediting PIA claim of Losses , by Logical Day by Day Analysis of Operations

And honestly I will be surprised if the present government can do anything. The reason is PIA has extensive liks with MQM and that party is a coalition partner so I would be surprised if the government will slash and chop the workforce or go after the pilfering. Any such attempt will cause a backlash from MQM and threaten the government. That is my take. Let us see how it plays out !
mostly its sindhi that is running PIA from top to bottom in karachi's PIA often you will see picture of benazir hanging on the walls inside of hanger. MQM has link mostly with water board.

View attachment 504969

You see the net revenue was 977 Million USD.

The fuel cost was 259 Million USD

Distribution costs were 53 Million

Admin expenses 88 Million

Other provisions 64 Million

The real pain comes from "Others".. which shows 817 Million USD.. and interest on loans 129 Million USD..

Now look at the note '31'.. Others..

So, If we close down PIA but keep paying the haramkhoors employed in it to sit at home and do nothing still we will be saving $286 million dollars annually.

Lo and behold this is Asad Umar talking about PIA after his return from Bali. W all agreed that it is glaringly obvious that PIA is at least 14 times over staffed. But political considerations are impacting economic decision making.

In response to another question, he said he did not agree that privatisation of public sector entities like Pakistan Steel Mills and PIA was a solution to address their continuous losses but getting them out of the clutches of the bureaucrats and politicians and giving under professional management teams to turn around them. He said it was also not true that their staff was a cause of their disaster but the governance failure.

Ports, PIA, PS, municipal boards are MQM money milching machines.

Bhai ji, I have audited PIA in my early years of career. I can tell you that MQM has inducted very few employees.. Most of the employees have been given jobs by either PPP or PMLN..

Isn't there quota system in place? Not sure how that work.

Okay I might be wrong .... but why do you think the government has backed off from privatization? And why is Asad Umar lying about the employees being okay when we know that PIA has way to many lazy workers?

Is is scared of some lobby? Which one? I know Nawaz tried to sell PIA but workers went on a riot and two were killed back in 2014

There are many labor unions in PIA.. when it comes to privatization, they all join hands against government, whether the government relates to their own union or not, it doesn't matter. They just halt the ground operations, and then the amount losses start increasing more.. imagine if you have booked a ticket and flight is cancelled, you should get a free ticket and sometimes a stay in a 4 star hotel until you don't get a different flight.. This has happened in the past..

I am seriously thinking about Asad Umar.. he is behaving weird lately.. but even if he gives a little hint about privatization, these unions will join hands and halt the operations.. and later on, our higher courts will give verdict in their favor and they will get salary even if they haven't worked..

A law needs to be passed which says that any strike in any institution, and the salaries will be stopped. Extended absence from work will result in immediate termination (no suspension type drama.. direct termination) that too with no rights on post termination benefits..

Then we will see who stops PIA operations..

Honestly though. PIA needs to be privatized or shut down. It is amoral for taxpayer to be bailing these lazy workers. I think there is two levels of loss taking place. The workers are lazy and overstaffed. The management is pilfering money. Together they are bleeding Pakistan to death. Just think of the annual subsidey - is it Rs 40 billion or whatever. Think -

  • How many houses for the poor could be built with that money
  • How many many poor could be helped
  • How man y schools built or children given literacy
  • How many hospitals built
  • How many miles of road built
  • How much helped towards the dam fund

I would prefer if that money was wated by just giving it to the extreme poor as charity rather than see this joke going on year after year.

I was internee in PIA hanger in Karachi and I haven't come across any mqm employee no flag nothing. There is no quota for MQM in PIA as I know off. It's all PPP and PMLN and when jobs come for 100 they take 500 employees in. That's why PIA is suffering.

You are absolutely right.. I agree. But who will buy with the current condition?

Shutting down also requires billions of dollars to compensate workers.. One thing can be done, sell the aircrafts and pay the lazy employees once, and shut this entity down..

looking at number of employees imagine the size of their retired employee getting pension/medical etc.

some 50+ planes need 14000 employee my mind cannot go beyond that number.

From previous post. The figures are staggering - compare Ryan Air with PIA

upload_2018-10-14_11-5-38.png

Ryan Air has 13,000 employees and operates 450 aircraft. PIA has 14,000 workers and operates 33 aircraft. Workers per plane -

PIA 14,000/33 = 424
Ryan 13,000/450 = 28

Destination cities -

PIA - 53
Ryan - 220

And people wonder why PIA makes losses and other airlines make huge profits even when they employ expensive aircrews.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pakistan_International_Airlines

. . .
There are 5000 workers on contract as well by the way..
Can you believe Ryan Air flies to 220 cities, has 450 airplanes and most staggering the workers per plane - Ryan Air manages it with just 28 workers per plane !

Ryan Air - 28
PIA - 424
