I'm going to keep this brief, because at this time i'm quite pissed off with western freedom of speech "protectors".

Citizens in the west are very much manipulated to be offended enough to show up with 1.5 million people in Paris to protect freedom of speech to extend to insults of the Prophet Mohammed, something proven to perpetuate the war between "the free west" (not so free, i assure you based on my life experience) and more and more muslims..

But when I made a totally peaceful thread on a compuserve US-Republican forum about the need to do someting about climate change, they first tried all of their dirty discussion techniques to derail me presenting my case there. When that didn't work, the thread was simply deleted by moderators. A repost was deleted as well.
This is thrown under the right for companies to delete whatever they want off their servers, but I say that's a very dirty way to censor freedom of speech to protect the corrupt and closed-minded in the west.

The same thing happened when I posted valid criticism of western medicine practices on a Dutch site. Deleted because the site moderators didnt like it.

That put together is evidence enough that western freedom of speech is already censored, and that the calls for our freedom to keep insulting the Prophet Mohammed are very very hypocritical and reason for me to reconsider staying involved in the war on terror at all, or even to "switch sides" in the view of my allies in NATO intel.

I don't give a damn about "keeping government out of the business world". I think that fosters short term greed and see that generating quite a bit of suffering that is ignored as "the way of the world" by the western propaganda machines.

If we in the west are as serious about freedom of speech as we push our citizens to be on this insulting of the Prophet Mohammed, then western governments should determine what can stay online on a public forum, not the company behind the forum, creating an actually level playing field on the internet.

I am one very dissapointed puppy. I expect this criticism to be ignored as well. But I'm open to be surprised by western governments.

haha fortunately i was able to get the message through through other channels. Obama approved funding for carbon sequestration plants designs, which allows humanity to scrub the atmosphere for excess carbon (and probably methane too) and thus save the world from that very fucking real threat, right-wing-nutjob.

update :

after adding up my life experiences, i have arrived at the conclusion that western society is not about protecting truth, justice, liberty or what we like to call our "level playing field".

it is about protecting the greed of the few, the worship by the masses of luxury goods and resorts only available to those few, and the protection of the lies that keep this status quo going.

i will no longer be a part of this.

for this reason, and to even be able to acquire enough money to support a family of my own and leave them a decent inheritance, i will stop reading all news, including all political forums and internet message streams. i won't even play radio stations with hourly news if you know what i mean. not ever again.

quite frankly, i need to stop caring about terror strikes and the evolution of human societies, to be able to muster the required focus on my company and it's products.

i've given the world, at expense of my health and wealth, many ideas to improve human societies. don't say i didnt do nothing or have achieved nothing or have made no sacrifices. i have.

now i will focus exclusively on my company and my own family life. i can keep my family and loved ones safe from terror strikes and other personal dangers without reading the news, i assure you all.

anyone talking to me about the news or politics will get a severely assertive attitude that demands them to stop probing me for opinions.

tip to the western mothers and worried fathers that got me into this world improvement hobby : next time you train a kid to do such work, you might want to indoctrinate that kid as well to focus exclusively on one task. you can add one more lie to the curriculum "we got others on those other issues you care about, you only got energy for one field/subject of work".

farewell, political world. i hope you do something with my input that i've given you over the years.

Freedom of speech is only against Muslims, try to bash zionists in the west and you'll be labeled anti-Semite plus you gonna spend some time in jail

Nope~ there is annual Israeli Anti-semitic Cartoons Contest in the west. And all the artist are still fine and protected for their freedom of speech. The only exception applied if you deny holocaust and calls for the extermination of Jews and other races.

@peacefan: your idea of freedom of speech is wrong. Why should a Republican site carry your comments? Start your own site if you don't want to be screened by them.

Did the Charlie Hebdo guys insist on putting their cartoons on their local mosque newsletter? Freedom of speech is freedom of expression not freedom to go to someone's house and harangue them against their will. So if the Republicans boot you out from their forum, don't blame them.

Freedom of speech means you can say what you want. It doesn't mean that you can force others to say what you want (by publishing your opinions - get your own forum, cheap enough on the web).

Say your piece. Others will say what they want. They are not required to agree with you because you spoke. Freedom of speech doesn't mean you are now dictator of people;s opinions, it means exactly the opposite of that. Likewise, you cannot force someone to employ you to say things they don't like. If your job is writing opinion pieces, you can work for yourself selling your work to whomever chooses to buy it, or you can work for someone else on a salary or hourly wage - which will cease at the point they don't want your work anymore (basically, till your customer no longer wants to buy).

Holocaust denial laws are particular to Europe. They don't exist in the US, and would probably be thrown out as unconstitutional if introduced. To change the law on that (which you _could_ do), you'd need a constitutional amendment repealing or heavily modifying the 1st amendment. That requires a really extraordinary supermajority. No chance, like Z-E-R-O at this point - the 1st amendment is extremely popular as-is in the US.

Still, the 1st amendment of the US constitution seems to be misunderstood by lots of non-Americans to guarantee your right to say anything in any form. This is incorrect. Public forums (those owned/operated by the government) have very few restrictions at all, mostly practical matters that keep people from talking over each other. Private forums can be considerably more restrictive. You are not required by law to allow people to burn crosses on your lawn, or draw Mohamed on the side of your house, etc. You just can't use the law (mostly) to restrict your neighbor from doing those things in his own lawn/house. Again, there are safety exceptions to the cross burning, and you can get into intimidation issues with some actions that could be considered speech or actions (e.g. a guy got into trouble on his way to burn a bunch of Korans because he had doused them with accelerant before driving to the place he was going to do the burning, creating a safety hazard. Burning your own Korans on your own property would probably be legal, if done within safety/pollution constraints.)

I agree with you. People do not understand the meaning of freedom of speech. They think it is freedom to say whatever they want and wherever they want. What they do not realize is that when someone joins a forum they agree to follow the rules set by the forum and the forum on the other hand has a duty to make sure everyone follows those rules.

So can I come to your house in the middle of the night and scream my lungs out that global warming is a hoax??
And if the police throws me in jail for disturbing you, they are clearly against my right to freedom of speech?

Right??

ha. well, if the US-Republicans are responsible for defunding climate research time after time, then how do you get a message to them other than posting it on a forum that they frequent?

perhaps it's YOUR idea of freedom of speech that is more wrong than mine eh.
