Dhoni undergoing training with Army's elite Para Brigade

In the article he says that he would love to serve the Army actively once he retires.

Is there any precedent for such a case in the Indian Army?

A career Lt Col rank officer would be a CO of a unit or in a senior administrative job deeply involved in day to day ops...is it the same with an honorary member?

I always thought it would just be for photo shoots and publicity...
Whilst he has stated that there is no indication that he would be allowed to maintain his purely honorary rank should he wish to do so.

He might be allowed to serve in the TA or something but I doubt he will even do that- he's going to retire to a beach somewhere more than likely.

No individual can be trained to the same level of an infantry soldier in 2 weeks. The idea is ridiculous. Boot camps last longer than 2 weeks.

Raising an army, especially for modern battles, is not about arming an individual with AK-47. These people would not be volunteers but cannon fodder. The age of human wave tactics is over. 2 week training is good for village defence committees and such but for a member of the paratroopers it is an insult.

Divide that millions of volunteers in Cyber sector, supplying rations, NDRF, weapon productions, productions of uniforms, operating armed drones etc.

judging by his shape (fat content) i don't think he could run 5km under 25 mins with half the military gear.

Who is going to organise 700 million people into so many sectors?

India has an army strength of 900,000. Of those 900,000 at most there would be 360,000 infantry soldiers whereas the others would be into duties like engineering, communications, radar, armor, artillery, education, mechanics, cooks, cleaners, teachers, lawyers and other desk jobs.

Cyber sector and operating drones are high-tech departments which will need highly qualified people and also TRAINED people. Weapons production also needs people who are qualified and know what they are doing. It is not WW2 where people can mass in a factory.

If building up an army was so easy then India would have fielded a 10 million strong army by now.

:rofl::rofl::rofl:
You want Dhoni also Killed in action or may be in special surgical strikes against Pakistan
:sniper::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:
Why would a cricketer and part time soldier would do a surgical strike against Pakistan.

And what's with all these fkn smileys.

Military counts everything from army, navy, air force.

Available manpower is an academic statistic. In case of war India cannot raise an army of 600 million. Who is going to train, equip and arm 600 million people?

20 to 30 million can change the course of any war.

No they cannot. Air force will wreck them. Modern warfare is not about numbers but training, tactics and co-operation between all three arms of the military. Having a huge army is worthless if the army lacks training, discipline, motivation and leadership.

Refer to Indian history, small number of invaders defeated huge number of north Indian army.

Training the present number is one thing and training 20-30 million or 600 million is another.

Here i am saying in case of any real war , Millions of volunteers can be raised and proper use of technology can be implemented be it cyber defense, disaster response force, doctors, engineers etc.

Unless you want to get hold of every Indian youth, hand them an AK-47 and throw them into the battlefield to be killed India CANNOT raise "millions" of volunteers in case of real war. Only possible scenario is that these volunteers will do manual labour in rescue and domestic efforts.

Cyber defense, doctors, engineers need a specialised set of people with certain academic criteria.

An army needs weapons, ammunition, uniform, ration, communication set, camping gear, discipline, training, leadership, organisation, command structure and many other things.

Territorial Army in India (TA) is a second line of defence after the Regular Indian Army ,

Territorial Army initially had various types of units such as armoured regiments, infantry battalions, air defence, medical regiments, engineers field park companies, signal regiments, Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (EME) workshops, coast batteries, Army Service Corps GT Coy, ASC Compo Pl, and AMC field ambulances.

Territorial Army is part of the regular Indian Army. The present role of the Territorial Army is to relieve the Regular Army from static duties and assist civil administration in dealing with natural calamities and maintenance of essential services in situations where life of the communities is affected or the security of the country is threatened, and to provide units for the Regular Army as and when required.

The Territorial Army has a strength of approximately 40,000 first line troops (and 160,000 second line troops) comprising departmental Territorial Army units such as railway, IOC, ONGC, telecommunication and General Hospital, and the non-departmental Territorial Army units of infantry battalions and ecological battalions affiliated to various infantry regiments.
