Dhaka takes note of Beijing's absence over Myanmar border tensions discussion

First a 10x increase in budget before any of these pipedream projects

Dont worry, BD has enough money to buy tons of Chinese and Turkish equipment, which are both price competitive and lethal.
Its just that the current government is incompetent in defence matters.

BD can easily spend 50 billion dollars spread over a period of 5 years, without a problem.

I find it interesting that many Bangladesh members are talking about using force to solve the issue. It is the last thing you want to have at your border. The most important reason that Bangladesh has enjoyed a decent economical growth over the past few years is its stable environment. Having a armed conflict at border will destroy the stability overnight, which will scare away foreign investors. Buying more western weapons will only give you a false sense of military strength, which may lead to opportunistic actions.

China is not pointing finger to any party or picking side in this dispute, instead it helps both parties to work on the issue pragmatically. I can appreciate the emotion runs high but simply calling the other party evil is not a useful way to get the problem solved.

.
I'm not really sure what's wrong with people on this thread. China does not get involved militarily in these conflict. It only has a mutual defense treaty with North Korea. Even with NK, it can't stop the Koreans from doing anything. So, the idea that China can stop Myanmar is just nonsensical. So yes, if Bangladesh wants to buy J-10s from China and train with PLAAF to defend itself against Myanmar, it has the ability to do so. In fact, I'm surprised BAF has not purchased J-10 yet. It would completely outclass the JF-17s that Myanmar has (which are the most downgraded version imaginable).

btw, the Myanmar leader is actually deeply distrustful of Chinese government. Hence the ongoing relationship between Myanmar and Russia. If you think China is in bed with Myanmar, you have no idea what you are talking about.

And China does not need Myanmar for military base. The one that will actually be helpful to China is Gwadar, but as long as China can continue to equip Pakistani military with what it needs, it doesn't really need to establish a base there.

We hope China looks the other way when the Burmese get what they have invited.
why would China not look the other way? When was the last time China intervened on any country's behalf?

.
Point well taken but I would not call this Bangladesh' military "beef" with Myanmar. And this is not a "border" problem. There is no border dispute, only a refugee displacement issue. It is an International problem of ethnic cleansing.

These Rohingyas are not ethnically similar to us Bengalis. They are Myanmar citizens.

The Tatmadaw is saying that they are Bengalis and illegal immigrants, so they can do ethnic cleansing, which is illegal itself by all UN international treaties and conventions. Ethnic cleansing is still ongoing in Myanmar, even today. This has been proven many times by the International Court of Justice in the Hague.

The Rohingyas have no place to go except Bangladesh. You cannot do this to a million people just because you want to. And you cannot get away with it. The results will be something no one likes. A war is being imposed on us which we may pursue.

Now if the Tatmadaw does illegal things, then their leaders deserve international punishment, which they have not so far.

But they will. I don't think Bangladesh will stop the repatriation process or pursuing punishment for the Tatmadaw leaders. Militarily if need be. Our patience is wearing thin with the Tatmadaw savages.

At some point this may however - become a military rather than diplomatic problem as has happened now. Arakan Army has gotten involved and so will ARSA.

At that point, we hope China will not pick a side and see things practically.

My observation is that the Rohingya people is a dark Caucasoid ethic group, who speaks an Indo-Aryan language and has very little East Asian blood, if any at all. Mine is based on what i could see on TV, so it may not be correct. Anyone from Bangladesh can explain more about this issue and their history? Thank you.

Correction China is neither a friend nor ally of BD.

China is a reliable commercial partner of BD. Nothing more and nothing less.

India is also not a friend or ally of BD. And somewhat unreliable commercial partner.

We need to build strong military alliances with Turkey and Indonesia.

And maintain good relationships with west.

Not having good military alliance with more powerful neighbors but having military alliance with weak and far away countries will not add to any strategic advantage. It will be a waste of resource and effort. The idea is only good for feel good without and strategic narrative.

Neighbour may be powerful, but it's not an ally. India is and has always been a threat, Bangladesh needs to build its defence ASAP.

Only in 1953. China has conducted peace negotiations with UN troops.

Even NK cannot ask China to do everything.

Do you have any idea of the resources required to build a reasonable response to India’s military strength? You may have to allocate more than 75 pc of budget on defence for many decades to come and yet BD will be vulnerable.

.
Within Burma china supports the ethnic chinese Wa state army first and foremost and other factions too within Burma. China also supports the Burmese government but not as much as the Wa State ethnic chinese military. If war breaks out between bangladesh and Burma, China wouldn't care less as all the refugees will end up in India or Bangladesh anyway. Right now Burma is a lot stronger than Bangladesh so nothing is going to happen anways.

In Burma Chinese support these guys the most

.
Exactly. China has no obligation to side with Bd.
Morons in Bd government need to do what is necessary to "solve the beef with Myanmar" instead of trusting China on this topic.
In this case, aligning with the West militarily is the only solution.
Doesn't matter what side Bangladesh will choose , it's actually clear that we need a right foreign policy.

Friendship with all and enmity with no one can't be a foreign policy for sure.

No one is neutral in literal sense! So such hoax of neutrality is obsolete!

However no need to take any side decisively, still we must choose an alliance , be it China or west.

Ps - My personal preference is still China though , I believe if China is absent , it's because of the dirty behavior of our idiots. As again, neutrality isn't any solution, but hypocrisy! Tbh ,China has no reason to support a hypocrite over Myanmar.

Even if Bangladesh make alliance with west , the we at least can get their direct support!

If choose Chinese side , I believe problem between Bangladesh and Myanmar will be solved soon!

Now let our policy makers ( not BAL) take the decision!

We might cheer Chinas anti india activity but China isn't a friend of ours and never will be. We have very different way to see this world...

We can join anti china camp without thinking twice. For us China is just a business partner. We don't have anything among us to bond...
Brother, the reality is , what khaleda Zia once said. And that is , none but a mentally handicapped person and a babies are neutral!

So the reality is , either you are with us , or against us ; be it with China or with USA! No way to maintain so called neutrality!

You overstate the issue. Bangladesh does not need offensive strength - only defensive. So that India thinks hard and thinks twice about launching any misadventures - it will learn a very hard lesson. The 1971 war was fought mainly by Mukti Bahini, not Indian army. It was a war of attrition.

India came in when thing dried up in December (eight months later) and when the Muktis had the Pakistan Army limited to the barracks because of rampant ambushes. Manekshaw did not even venture to get in before then. And Muktis fought with only small arms, grenades and improvised C4 explosives.

Bhakts jump up and down but Manekshaw knew. You can't even move tanks or artillery in the wet season in Bangladesh.

In any case this is off topic and for your edification.

Please open a separate thread to discuss.

Who created, armed and trained Mutivahini? We had the strength to curve out a nation like yours five decade back. Had you guys so much guts than what were you doing when tens of thousands of your women were raped and millions of your men butchered? The fact is that You couldn't do anything till India intervene.

Are you a gaumutra drinker under the nick name of a Muslim? Or a Marxist?

I think you are watching too many Bollywood hero movies and reading too much Sangh propaganda.

$hit happens during a civil war. It was a well-equipped army against mostly civilians. But we did fight nine months up to December while Indian Army "waited" across the border twiddling their thumbs.

Your fourth world entity didn't "carve out" a damn thing. This is well-documented. Do your reading and research. What you did, you did out of two-fold selfish ambitions,

1. Neutralize the Pakistan threat from the Eastern side which was a huge security issue for India
2. Enable a captive market for all garbage Indian products which you have been milking for fifty years (to the tune of $20~$50 Billion yearly without allowing any Bangladesh exports to your market.

Even then, we can't say small arms training from Indian army was not given to the Muktis, however it was out of the aforementioned reasons overall. You did not do any charitable contribution. The UN fed the refugees (mostly Hindu), not India.

The fact remains that Bangladeshis (including Muktis) liberated most of Bangladesh which was eased by supply and logistics issues for Pakistan Army. Your tanks and artillery walked in in the last ten days and "claimed victory".

Niazi could have held out but he was given directives from Islamabad to wrap things up given the situation. He did not want to surrender to the Muktis, the better choice was to surrender to the Indians, which would give him and the soldiers safe passage out of Bangladesh.

This is my last post on this off topic matter. Take this to another thread if you want to discuss. If you keep replying, I will report you and they will remove your off topic posts here.
