Dhaka more expensive than many South Asian cities: EIU

.
That was very unfortunate. In Dhaka or any other places, there is no rules, regulation for Taxi fair. It is still dependent on face to face negotiation and it is very likely to obtain a bad burgain specially if you are new in the city.

This is because, Taxi service in Dhaka is still in it's infancy. The pervasive presence of rickshaw, CNG and minibus in all places made the Taxi service less popular as those option are cheaper.

We all agree that, infrastructure wise Bangladesh is much behind India. May be 10-15 years behind.

Dhaka airport was built in 1970s and still remain the same. There is a new 2 billion dollar project under pipeline to build a new terminal and runway in the existing airport. Besides this, govt. is looking a new site near Dhaka to build a new, much bigger airport keeping in mind the traffic flow for the next 100 years which would be based on Bangkok Subarnabhumi airport in size and capacity.
Ya I heard abt new Airport.. but that is going to built like 30-40 Kms away from Dhaka. why not improve Current Infra(although you don't have much options either).

Why not make it 30 million illegal BD'shis my butt-hurt friend?
Dhaka has many nice parts and so this video does not represent all of Dhaka.
No offense UK bhai, but may i know why r u entertaining him with a reply? Isn't it obvious from his post that he's trolling here. Do these types of pathetic post deserve a response?

Current airport now sitting in the middle of the city, when it was built, it was 10 km away from city periphery.Plus this airport have small space around 2000 acres. So, not much room for expansion if we keep in mind the passenger volume in the next 50 or 100 years later. With the new terminal and runway, existing airport's capacity will be exhausted in the next 20-25 years. So for the long term perspective, a new airport is necessary.

He's not trolling. What he said about illegal Bangladeshis in Pakistan especially slums in Karachi is actually true. They send some remittance back home too, if I am not wrong. How do I know? Because I live in Karachi.

Of course it's off topic, so no need to further drag it. Good evening.

That guy said that living condition in the slums of Karachi is somehow comparable to the living condition of Dhaka city and u still believe that he wasn't trolling. Omm ok.

As for the later part of ur post ,well......to be honest with u, I actually don't know how many illegal Bangladeshis r living in Karachi or in any other cities in Pakistan. But mate, has it ever occurred to you that perhaps these people consider Pakistan as their motherland instead of Bangladesh and decided to move back to Pakistan during/after our liberation war? After all not 100 percent of east Pakistanis wanted to get separated from west Pakistan, right?

First i thought about posting some images of slums of Karachi, but then decided against it. I didn't see any point in disrespecting these poor slum dwellers by showing the images of their miserable life. Anyway, i am sure Karachi is a beautiful city. But that doesn't change the fact that Dhaka and Karachi are cities of two third world countries and both of these cities have their fare share of problems.

Dhaka is the least livable in a selected list of 140 major cities around the world, surveyed by The Economist.

The study didn't include Kolkata in the list.
I have lived in both city. Believe me Kolkata can't be compared with Dhaka. I am not sure on which aspect you think Dhaka is better than Kolkata. Transport, health, education, housing, fooding - in all of these basic amenities Kolkata is way ahead. IMO its the worst city I have lived.
Maybe because its a capital city that's why its included in the list of Economist.
On this note I can say I liked Bangladeshi towns like Chottogram, Bogra, Maymansingha, Shylet.

I won't really disagree that one would enjoy their time more in Kolkata. Kolkata is not even considered a major city, hence it doesn't have to bear the pressure that cities like Dhaka and Chittagong has to go through since the economic and financial activities in these two cities far exceeds that in Kolkata.

I would any day rate Cox's Bazar far better than Chittagong or Dhaka when it comes to refreshment.
