What's new

Dhaka is not beautiful but unique city: A foreigner's view

poor people, slave mentality... couple that with cultural heritage of rickshaws and it's still one of the major forms of short distance travel
Rickshaw going to be banned from last of the 3 major roads from 7th July 2019.
dude come to terms with the fact that none of the above will solve dhaka;s problem...
it needs a major rebuilt .... similar to what london and paris had gone through in the 19th/20th century
Dhaka's main problem is transportation. The new Dhaka is quite planned.

so what? even a 3rd tier city Sukkur in Sindh has this kinda specific clean area.

. . .
Nobody knows Sukkur.. so you should start promoting it.
lol its not even the provincial capital of Pakistan, but still have same "few" very modern and different places as you mentioned for Dhaka:enjoy:

Dhaka's architecture is more modern and new than the cities you mentioned. Most of the dhaka is obscured due to rampant traffic situation.

Pls post some of those marvelous architecture from Dhaka so we can compare them with other cities in the region.. Seeing is believing, Cos Dhaka remains year after year ranked one of the least livable cities in the world

You need solid backup's if you make grandiose claims

PS. I hope you wont borrow badly made CGI of supposedly buildings that Mr. CGI posts here daily..

The definition of modernity might vary between persons. I said what I felt like. Dhaka is more like South East Asia than South Asia to some extent.

Again grandiose claims without solid back up's.. You claimed Dhaka or parts of it are more modern than all the cities in all of South Asia.. Now that's a "tall" statement to make when you're standing on a stool.. Atleast add some legitimacy to it by posting a few real pics as proof.. Whats your definition of modernity ? How is it more South East Asian to lets say Colombo which i'm familiar with ?

Well colombo is not in the league to tell you the truth.
If you compare with bombay (apart from downtown) which is the largest and most rich city, dhaka will come better in modern architecture.

How so ? A capital city of 20 million people ? A shipping hub and a commercial capital in the region ? So tell us what Dhaka got that Colombo doesn't if it's according to you insignificant ?

And why are you posting a video of Bombay ? We all want to see how modern Dhaka is from any other South Asian city.. If you make obnoxious claims be man enough to back it up

COLOMBO in Sri Lanka has been named the ‘must-photograph’ travel destination of 2019, in a study.

Research of more than 1.3 million social media posts found the Asian city is the location travellers most want to take a picture of, followed by Yokohama in Japan and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park in Uganda.

The Isle of Harris in Scotland also made the list, along with Baden-Baden in Germany’s Black Forest.

Commissioned by Huawei to celebrate the launch of its new P Smart 2019 device, the research also uncovered a new-found appetite among young Brits for lesser-known destinations.

Just under half of 18-25 year olds now look for places their friends haven’t been, with more than a third saying they want to be the first to find new travel hotspots, take the photo and stick it online.

The mantra of ‘if it’s not on social it didn’t happen’ is very much alive, with 16 per cent of Gen-Zs deciding on locations that are most ‘Instagrammable’ when planning their travels.

Mobile phones also make for perfect travel companions, with two thirds (66%) claiming it to be the ultimate travel essential.

Justin Costello, Huawei director of marketing, UK and Ireland, said: “It’s interesting to see that Gen Z are keen to get out and explore the world by treading their own path – enabling them to share with friends their experiences in these new ‘must shoot’ destinations on social media.

“Being able to stay connected no matter where you are in the world, and being able capture to scale, colours and beauty of these amazing locations so you can share your major life experiences through the power of photography will always be important to those who have firmly caught the ‘explorer’ bug.”

Long battery life and a good camera are key features 18 -25 year olds demand from their mobile phone when travelling.

But we’re not all desperate to get away.

Despite more than half of Brits having the travel bug, 40 per cent claim to be proud of their local area with over one third stating they’d recommend their local areas as a good location to visit.

Top ten 'must photograph' travel destinations for 2019
1. Colombo, Sri Lanka
2. Kobe/Yokohama, Japan
3. Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, Uganda
4. Baden-Baden, Germany
5. Old San Juan, Puerto Rico
6. Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe
7. Kartarpur, Narowal District, Pakistan
8. Wadi Rum, National Park, Jordan
