Do you literally mean a horse-drawn cart? Has any President arrived on horsecart for the republic day parade? When was the last time?

That should be an interesting spectacle.

LOLL; you do not know what a horse-drawn buggy is? Have you seen the Queen of England's horse drawn State Carriage?
The President's buggy is the same; the only difference is that the Queen's Coach is covered- because of the weather in Britain. While the President's Coach is open, since the weather in India is much more mild. Both are drawn by a 'train' of thorough-bred horses of upto 24 horses.

BTW; how old are you? have you seen the RD Parade in Delhi either in person or on TV before?

Keep in mind 350 hours engine life on Mig29 and 1100 hours airframe life on Mig29 with overhaul every 25, 50, 100, 150 and 350 hours.

10 out of roughly 60 Mirages have crashed.

20-25 Mig29's of 86 have crashed.

Roughly 40-50 Jaguars have crashed out of 170 approx

Really there is no comparing safety of M2K vs Mig29 or Jaguar

Now go back to School

Where did you get these "incredible" stats from? :what:
Must've been one "helluva school" that you went to.........

Wouldn't drive bike after watching the BSF daredevils: Obama - Rediff.com India News

United States President Barack Obama would “not drive” a motorbike after watching the daredevil motorcycle performance by Border Security Force personnel at the Republic Day parade on Monday.
“I would, by the way, not drive a motorcycle after watching those incredible acrobats,” Obama said, clearly overwhelmed by the performance of the ‘Jaanbaaz’ bike riders and their daring stunts.
His comments at the Indo-US Business Forum meet on Monday evening came hours after TV grabs showed him and US First Lady Michelle Obama cheering and giving the thumbs up to the BSF daredevils -- famed for their formation of a human pyramid on moving bikes -- during their stunning display at the parade.
Obama, the first US president to be the chief guest at the Republic Day celebrations, thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the invitation extended to him for joining “in this incredible Republic Day celebrations and (for) the hospitality that you have shown to me”.
“Today’s ceremony and the parade were truly spectacular, a moving tribute to India’s founding, its democracy, its progress,” he said.
In a jocular vein indicating the series of meetings and speeches Modi and he have made since Sunday, the US President said, “I felt that the Prime Minister must be tired by now, but what’s another speech between friends,” as he began his speech at the business meet.

Obama's thumbs-up to BSF 'Janbaz' team's daredevil stunts - The Times of India

NEW DELHI: BSF's dare-devilish manoeuvres during its Republic Day parade at the Rajpath here earned a thumbs-up from US President Barack Obama on Monday.

The force's 'Janbaz' team performed a numbers of stunts including 'harmony', 'peacock riding', 'acrobat', 'parallel bar', 'lotus', 'Jaguar', 'BSF tree', 'Seema Chowki Peetal' and was showed a thumbs-up by Obama. His wife Michelle was seen clapping along as the contingent passed by.

The Obamas watched a display of India's military might and cultural diversity at Rajpath.

President Pranab Mukherjee also cheered the BSF team as it performed daredevil stunts at the Rajpath.

The motorcycle team of BSF was raised in 1990. During 2006, 'Janbaz' achieved a world record by creating a human pyramid of 26 'Janbaz' on three motorcycles and covered a distance of 1 km in one minute 16 seconds. It created another world record by carrying 40 men on a single motorcycle at a speed of 30 kmph.

Ya well he would not have said anything else... after all he is a diplomat and a guest^^ dont you think so?

Anyways, performing motorcycle pyramids has nothing to do with military traditions and are totally not worthy for soldiers. It has never served any military purpose (like marching to music in perfect formations) and never will. -_-

Its something they can perform on BSF raising day or similar events but not on R-Day infront of a global audience.

Sure... I said that kids like those displays by the Despatch Riders on their Motorbikes, since that feed-back has been documented. But I did not say that Adults do not/ or may not like it. Only some guys here on PDF (for differing reasons) seem to not like them.

Fact of the matter is; even Michelle Obama liked the display and she was cheering frequently during the display (it is documented for posterity). Maybe she was also cheering something that her husband (however powerful he may be) will never be able to do!
The bottom line is that neither Michelle or Barack are kids; just as many others in the audience who were applauding the display.

So what does that make the "nay-sayers" and "denigrators" of the Display? Does that make them "grown-ups"?

Again

And yet again

I think that expression was genuine .

He was stone faced for most of the parade .

I think he genuinely liked the acrobatics !!!

so you are trying to say he deliberately faked the indifferent stone faced expression ?

I feel that thumbs up was spontaneous and genuine ...otherwise why did he single out that one thing amidst so many others he could have ' faked ' about ???

That was not serious. I was just kidding^^

But I strongly feel that these kind of ... more circus related stuff does not belong into a military parade for the reasons I ve given earlier. Its as inappropriate as putting cultural exhibitions between the military parade! It should be clearly separated.

well it is not a military parade !
It is Republic Day parade ...

Celebration of a nationhood !

and that's why so much of cultural extravaganza !!!

You know ...the dances by the school kids was one of the best highlight of this parade ...

amidst the raging North Indian in Maharshtra nonsense by Thakare brothers ...when Delhi kids presented that " Gondhal " traditional maharashtrian dance ....It was a big slap on face of those and other regionalists ....

anything that makes citizens happy ...anything that inspires them to work for each other and nation ....should be allowed in republic day parade .

Parade is for nation and not for global audience ....

This is what we are and how we are ....

why be apologetic about what we are ?

Now give big thumbs up to Republic day parade like Obama !!! ;)

I did not say anything against the cultural aspects, but I think it needs to be separated from the more serious part of the celebrations: The military parade. Putting all those displays, dancers etc between marching regiments, tanks, MRLSs and and fighter jets and attack helos does not make up. At least in IMHO.

It should be put right at the end... after the last plane has flown over the Rajpath. Sometimes I feel that they ve put it (the flypast) at the end to ensure that more people watch the whole thing...
