Desi? Who are "Desi"
I think Desiman ,Desi jatt and Desi guy are desis..
Strangely they are all banned here now.. Maybe because of that name
The only real desi is Desiman, everyone else is faking it
Desi man is no longer banned - Spark
You can only call yourself desi if you speak a language with the word 'des' or 'desh' in it.
Urdu, Hindi, Gujarati, Bengali all qualify.
I don't know about any other languages...
Even Tamil has the word "desi" in it.
Even Tamil has the word "desi" in it.
Is the word desi borrowed by itself (possibly from Hindi) or does Tamil also have the word 'des'?
desi means of the 'des' or 'desh', i.e. land.

Its not Desi perse, it is Desiyam meaning 'National'.
Not borrowed - it is a Tamil word, but as I said in a slightly different form (Desiyam)
Its same here too..
Currently I think Malayalam has more 'Senthamizh' (Pure Tamizh) words in its common usage today than Tamil itself. Donno why.
Its because you guys have stopped using "sha" , "JJa:" , 'zha" and replaced with lighter ones in spoken language.
No I am not speaking about the sounds - 'zha' as in Mozhi(Language) etc are still in use.
I am speaking about words like Swapnam,Soppanam (Sleep , I guess) which find a mention in ancient Tamil Literature, but all become almost extinct now.
Zha has been replaced by "la"
Its not tamizh anymore its called tamil.. also malai, valapalam, etc etc
