What is the Meaning of Desi?
Desi is a Slang term for Indians is what I understands.

I think it is basically a term to include UP,Punjab People outgrown to classify whole India?
Any Idea Who are included as Desi People?

Wrong, desi is a term used for Indians and has become very popular, it is used for all Indians and not ones from specific states.

"Anybody who is able to read and understand word Desi" is desi. That includes Indians, Pakistanis, Bangladeshis etc.

By the way, "Dais" is an Urdu word that means "Homeland" or "Watan".. the Arabic equivalent is "Watni" and English equivalent is "Native". In General sence, Desi means anybody who belongs to civilization of Indian Subcontinent.

Also the word "Desi" is most probably taken from Urdu because in Urdu the name for homeland is "Dais" while in Hindi it is "Daish". If that had been taken from Indian "Daish", that would've been "Deshi" but its "Desi" and that implies it is an Urdu term instead of Hindi.

'desi' means people from apna 'des'.. 'des' is hindi word for country. so.. yes this was predominent with north indians living outside india. now.. it's a term used by indians outside india for people from india.

Its not about India but it reffers to south Asia. We in Pakistan have 10s of food items and dishes (as Zaki pointed out above) which has these words. Desi Murghi, Desi Anda, Desi Ghee, Desi Khane etc.

Hindu equivalent of "Country" is "Daish" and not "Dais".

i think we are talking about 'who are desi?' not 'what are desi?'. when it comes to referering to people, it's mostly used outside your own country. from my own experience hindi speaking people refer to their fellow countrymen as 'desi', whereas pakistani's refer to their fellow countrymen as 'apna'.

But Desi is used extensively by NRIs I think. V-Desi is the term for Foreigner.

Do Afghans and Pakistani Pashtuns consider themselves Desi as well?

AFAIK, the word "Desi" was used to signify "one of us" or "ours (apna)", this expression was common among Hindi/Urdu speaking people (regardless of region); then gradually expanded to include South Asians.
