Demographic shift and risk of Talibanization in Karachi as 1.8 million foreigners registered

ISLAMABAD: As many as 1.8 million aliens have been registered in Karachi, the interior ministry informed lawmakers on Tuesday.

Additional Secretary Interior Imtiaz Tajwar informed the National Assembly Standing Committee on Interior and Narcotics Control that so far 1.8 million foreigners have been registered in the port city by the National Aliens Registration Authority (NARA).

The secretary, however, was skeptical about the exact figures presented in a survey conducted by NARA. Tajwar told the committee that the foreigners have been asked to get themselves registered with the National Database Registration Authority (NADRA).

MNA Nabil Gabol of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) was of the view that hundreds of thousands of illegal-immigrants were living in Karachi and most of them were involved in terror activities.

According to rough estimates of interior ministry the total immigrant population in Pakistan stands at around 3.3 million.

That's roughly 8% of total population.. that too "registered" immigrants..
there are thousands of illegal migrants in many places in Karachi..

I doubt it. In the soup of politics that we call Karachi, it's in the ISI's least interest to involve more players.

Here is the problem, ISI has long been infiltrated by Taliban and their supporters. Karachi is the economic capital of Pakistan. If Karachi falls, Pakistan falls. The stone age Jihadi mentality is creeping into every section of Pakistani society. Karachi has always been the strong fort of liberals and moderate parties. with large immigration and deliberate demographic change the mostly liberals in Karachi are surrounded by hostile people from Tribal areas. They are way too extreme in religion and wants to shove their ideology on the people of Karachi. That is not to say that all people from tribal areas are terrorists but lets be honest they are conservative and follow religion to extreme, they don't allow girls to get education and cannot tolerate people of other Sects and religions. People of Karachi will not accept that. There will be backlash. Unfortunately it will turn into ethnic conflict exploited by political parties and our own agencies, which is the last thing Pakistan needs.

Why do you believe the ISI would want to make Pakistan fall? Even if they were infiltrated, why would all of them want to destroy themselves? If Pakistan falls, the ISI ceases to exist, along with whoever it is that you think is infiltrated.
Karachi used to be the fort of liberals and moderates, unfortunately that is no longer true. MQM is a prime example of moderate parties turning into criminals because of the political and social mess in Pakistan.

I all ready told you ISI has been compromised. Someone seriously needs to clean out ISI and Army from Taliban and Al Qaida supporters. Once that's done terrorism in Pakistan will die down. Taliban stand no chance against Pak Army militarily, all of their major terrorist attacks have been due to inside help.
