Democracy never flourished in Pakistan because rulers were hand-picked in past: PM

You are contradicting yourself, why would he need to be hand-picked or given a helping hand if he is the most popular political personality in Pakistan.

Because Pakistan does not have a Presidential system and the public does not vote for who they want as their PM.

The helping hand came in the shape of electibles falling into his lap, damaging other parties (such as MQM) and ensuring vote counts favoured PTI candidates.

If popularity was enough, why did PTI only have a single NA seat previously?

So punishing a corrupt is illegal now? Salute to your logic

And is it your logic that the illegal meddling in politics by those not Constitutionally permitted to do so is okay? Does that deserve a salute too? Punishing the corrupt is okay, but only for civilians? How about another salute for that? :D

Prime Minister Imran Khan on Sunday said that democracy in Pakistan could only flourish if it is based on accountability and merit.

Addressing graduates at Namal College’s sixth convocation in Mianwali, the premier said the reason democracy never strengthened in Pakistan was because its previous leaders never actually worked to attain power.

“In a functioning democracy, there is no space for hereditary politics and sincere leaders only rise to power after a period of struggle. Nawaz Sharif and Shehbaz Sharif faced no such struggles; they were hand-picked for positions of power,” the premier said.

“Similarly, Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and his father, Asif Ali Zardari, inherited leadership of their party.”

PM seeks business community’s help to improve economy

“Democracy replaced monarchy as the preferred governance system because it is based on meritocracy and accountability,” PM Imran said.

Citing China as an example, he said though the economic giant does not have a traditional democratic system, its governance model is one based on merit and accountability.

“China’s leader, President Xi Jinping, rose to power after a 30-year struggle. Today, China has a system that does not afford any individual special privileges; almost 400 ministers have faced accountability in China on charges of corruption.”

Reiterating his commitment to serve the masses, the prime minister asserted that a nation can only rise if public money is spent on public welfare.

The prime minister also spoke on the pressing need to improve the country’s economy.

More than half of Pakistanis happy with PM Imran’s performance: poll

“We are blessed with natural resources which we have failed to ever properly utilise. Today, we are disproportionately reliant on imports and our exports have consistently declined over past decades,” he said.

“A major reason for this has been our failure to adapt modern technology. Our agriculture sector lags behind because our farmers do not know the latest techniques and do not have the latest tools.”

In his concluding remarks, Premier Imran reposed confidence in Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar and criticised Shehbaz Sharif’s recent comments about his successor.

“He [Shehbaz Sharif] had something to say about Usman Buzdar. My question to him, though, is who are you to say anything after getting everything through your brother?”

So in that case we should let every corrupt person and every criminal go free? you have a severe case of whataboutism. Have you ever considered why the people in uniform have to step in. If the civilians in the past weren't as incompetent then that would not have happened. Secondly the civilians have been in power uninterrupted for over 10yrs and what have they done with that time?

Being selective and periodic with such anti-corruption measures will only be retribution and never actual improvement of the system, as we can see from the national historical record. Please do carry on supporting this biased process as you wish. I have no need to argue with you at all.

Are you serious? damaging MQM? so you think MQM was saint party? your delusions astound me. I know i am talking to a brick wall but let me try give you a historical lesson. in 2013 most people knew that PMLN will win and all the electables went rushing off to meet Nawaz. In 2018 people saw the infighting between Nawaz and Shahbaz, they also saw how many people came out for Nawaz's "Mujha kyon Nikala" rallies, so they could see that PMLN was not going to win. They also saw how Zardari has totally abandoned Punjab, and every poll and every survey was showing PTI winning, and thats why the electables went rushing to PTI. Mind you in alot of cases these electables still lost, like Firdous Ashiq Awan and Nadeem Afzal Chan.

As for vote counts going in favour of PTI, what do you base this allegation on? And if you think there was discrepancies why hasn't your party asked for review.

So you are going to stick with your slogan "don't touch Nawaz and Zardari" until the people that brought military in politics are not accounted for?

That was never my slogan. Not at all. This still is: Bring them all in, all of them, in any order you like, but all of them. That is all.
