I know there are lot of wonderfull bloggers from India in PDF, except a few trollers, I wish that they participate here and share their idea on how to deal with corrupt officials in India.
I think even the GoI can do some thing better to address the issues of the people by sending elected officials to take a talk with the people.
There seems to be a long gap of communication between the people and the one who represent them. The elected just show up for campaign and mostly forget the people for the next 5 years untill the next election comes.
This has to change in India for the betterment of the country and the 1 billon people of our great nation.

You also have to understand that a lot of local politics is also involved in most of the issues in India rather than some real problems for the people [take the case of the protest over the Nuclear Plant in Kudankulam].

Good to see China resolving internal issues peacefully.

The future is bright for people in China and India as in the future we see issues of people from all classes being resolved properly in both these countries.

I belive that some of the farmers issue regarding land aqusation will be solved with the new bill, yet I am not in favour of the new Bills provision which grants the right for the government to procure farm lands in case the private company is planning to bring a factory that requires the land space of 100 acres or more.
If the private company is about go with such a project why not the company themselves buy the land rather than involve the Government. If the later is done, sure the private company will come up with a job offer to one of the farmers family member besides procuring the land at the right market value.

A Chinese court sentenced a veteran activist Friday to nine years in prison for inciting subversion, in what appears to be the most severe punishment handed down in a crackdown to prevent the spread of Arab Spring-style democratic uprisings.

Chen Wei was convicted of incitement to subversion over four essays he wrote and published online, said one of his lawyers. He was detained in February amid an extensive government crackdown in response to anonymous online calls urging Chinese to imitate protests in North Africa and the Middle East.

There are other riots around the area in rich Guangdong province. Looks like people in China are having really say. It will definitely touch a raw nerve or two of the CPC.

i believe you got the wrong end of the stick mate. if the Chinese government bowed down to the wishes of its people , its a good thing. the government is here to serve us and not the other way around.

How daft are you? Did you even read the thread? Nobody in Wukan was looking for revolution. They were protesting about local government corruption. Sorry to let you down. No western stooges there.

Geez, it's like if some seniors were protesting about social security in USA, and we call it a revolution against Washington federal government because we *really* *really* wanted to believe the whole country is about to revolt against Washington.

land is always a problem in crowded countries and developing countries, because there's more disputes to go around and more people live directly off the land.

i do not know about this incident, but in my village there was a proposal to bring up a new SIPCOT unit to boost the price of land by the elected MLA's of my constituency who have lot of land procured in their name, my father and some of the villages senior members held a protest and the proposal is on hold after that.
The government can not be ignoranct of its elected members trying to convert farm lands into active real estate and some day bringing in corporate companies to buy and develop polluting industries near farming grounds.
We say that we are a agricultural country but the farmer is constantly riped of his source of income because of unbalanced privilages (high) to industries and (low) to agri.

When corruption is the norm and the people challenged it, that is a revolution. The people's wrath may be highly focused on one issue, but dictators throughout history have instinctively recognized that if you concede to one issue, the people will not be satisfied and will seek other issues to challenge. Expressing an opinion about democracy is a challenge. For now...It is easier to suppress an individual who dare to challenge the big issues than to kill off a large crowd who seeking redress on a smaller issue. But you are naive if you think this will come out to nothing.

its easier to jail one person when the majority disagrees with him/her, a large crowd by definition has a larger support group thus that issue concerns more people so it receives priority to be solved

Absolutely correct Sir.
In developing countries, individual interests are always given a back seat when the development of the region is of top priority. Sometimes rightly so.
Also, in many countries, during elections they always try to create an issue out of it even if there is non.

In some cases in India, political parties bring in protesters who have nothing to relate them to the issue itself, just for showing their strength and creating an issue out of thin air with the help of Media.
