London: Iqbal Mirchi, a key aide of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, has reportedly died of a heart attack in London.
Mirchi, 62, managed Dawood's drug syndicate in European countries. He was being probed by the Mumbai Police in connection with the murder case of journalist J Dey and for IPL betting scandal.
Mirchi, whose real name is Iqbal Menon, is also wanted by India in multiple cases of murder and extortion. He acquired the moniker Mirchi because his family originally traded red chilli powder.
Mirchi escaped from Mumbai in the early 90s and had been on the run since then. He was reportedly moving between Dubai and London.
An Interpol Red Corner Notice - which is like an international arrest warrant - was issued against him in 1994. The Scotland Yard investigated Mirchi between 1995 and 1999. That investigation, however, did not yield much.
