Points to be noted:-

- Pentagon chief spokesperson Dana White insisted that "this operation does not represent a change in US policy" and was not an attempt to unseat Assad or become involved in the Syrian Civil War.

- The operation “significantly crippled” Syria’s chemical weapons capabilities and despite reports of evacuations of some production equipment and other materiel, some fixtures were likely too large to move to another, safe location.

- Dana White stressed that the operation was different from the strike on Syria’s Shayrat Air Base and focused on neutering Assad’s chemical weapons production capability rather than delivery platforms.

- McKenzie said that the U.S. military conducted a detailed targeting process, including "plume analysis" and other tasks, in order to mitigate the possible release of chemical agents from the strikes on any of the three sites.

- Lieutenant General McKenzie said the Syrians attempted to shoot down incoming missiles with 40 surface-to-air missiles using a "ballistic trajectory" and "without guidance."

What was struck?

Officially: 3 locations across Syria

image

Unofficially: additional set of locations across Syria

- Hezbollah headquarters in Quseir [information withheld from public]
- Some military bases [an example from Suwayda below]
- Damascus airport on fire [information withheld from public]

Location 1:-

The Barzeh Research and Development Center, according to the Pentagon briefing, is located in the greater Damascus area.

Strike package for this location:

76 missiles struck the Barzah Research Center in Damascus, including 57 Tomahawk Land Attack Cruise Missiles (TLAM) and 19 Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missile-Extended Range (JASSM-ER) air-launched cruise missiles.

Dimensions of Tomahawk cruise missile:

TL = 20.3 feet
D = 21 inches

Dimensions of JASSM-ER:

TL = 13.9 feet
D = 25 inches

Now, keeping in view the sheer size of that compound, every missile would have struck! And there would still be room for more. Choice of warheads seem to be those which are not high-explosive.

Location 2:-

The Him Shinshar chemical weapons storage facility is located west of Homs, a city north of Damascus.

After:

Strike package for this location:

22 missiles impacted the chemical weapon storage facility west of Homs, including nine TLAMs - all from U.S. ships - eight Storm Shadow air-launched cruise missiles from UK aircraft, three Missile de Croisière Naval (MdCN) cruise missiles from French frigates, and two SCALP air-launched cruise missiles from French aircraft.

Location 3:-

The Him Shinshar chemical weapons bunker facility, located more than 4 miles (7 km) from the storage facility, was struck by seven Scout missiles.

LOL - Chemical weapons can be made in mobile laboratories and anyway Russia can supply Syria with all it needs.

. . . .
Another thing is why more than 100 missiles were used to attack only 3 sites?
Strike distribution:-
  • 76 missiles struck the Barzah Research Center in Damascus, including 57 Tomahawk Land Attack Cruise Missiles (TLAM) and 19 Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missile-Extended Range (JASSM-ER) air-launched cruise missiles.
  • 22 missiles impacted the chemical weapon storage facility west of Homs, including nine TLAMs - all from U.S. ships - eight Storm Shadow air-launched cruise missiles from UK aircraft, three Missile de Croisière Naval (MdCN) cruise missiles from French frigates, and two SCALP air-launched cruise missiles from French aircraft.

Additional locations/targets across Syria were also struck during the course of strikes (e.g. location 4). However, these matters are shrouded in fog of war.

Interesting !
So they based all their chemical producing factories and research center near Israel. How wise is that?
Who can tell there are no chemical weapon factories deep within Syria!
Furthermore, all those "chemical" weapons exploding will cause huge destruction and this also raises the question that if there was a chemical weapons and these turds claiming to be so worried about Syrian people would never attack it.

If they cared about people there would have been no invasion of Iraq on false pretext of WMDs.

And you believe their words as the divine truth...right?

Just open your eyes and enter into the 21st Century(!). Why would the US and her allies lie(?). Look they even provided photograph and maps(.) You should just take their word for it that these maps and photographs are accurate and true(!)

Truth be told there is no way for us to be sure independently of what was hit and what was intercepted.
Those who have illegally bombed Syria will say one thing, and Russia, Syria and Iran will say another.
They will all provide "evidence(s)" for their POV.

It just depends upon who you are willing to trust more.

But I am glad it was a limited strike (not condoning the illegal action BTW) and Russia was informed of them beforehand. Cos if it was an all out strike and Russian targets were included, well I am not sure that we would be here on PDF discussing this issue.

Also the rhetoric that it was not to take out Assad but limit/destroy the government's chemical weapons capability, implying that is was Syrian government which did the chemical attack is very clever. The investigation has not been done and they are attacking Syria before it. It seems like guilty before innocent rhetoric... very clever....
