Dal Khalsa supports Hurriyat call for boycott of 26 Jan functions

A Sikh organization on Friday supported the Hurriyat (G) call to boycott January 26 functions in Jammu and Kashmir.

While calling for a shutdown on the day, Geelani-led Hurriyat has appealed parents, teachers and common man to stay away from function organized on the day in the state.

“Dal Khalsa also expressed its full support and solidarity with the Hurriyat Conference (G) and dissenting voices of the 'seven sister' states of the North East who have given the call for boycott on this day to mark their protest,” read a statement issued today. The organization, which is planning a demonstration at Amritsar on the eve of India’s Republic Day, said the present constitution of India denies minorities their right to self-determination as recognized under International law.

It alleged that there was no let up in State’s indifferent and repressive approach towards struggling peoples. “… rather it had become more intolerant towards minorities.”

“On the eve of India's 66th republic day, our activists would hold public protest against “wrongs and denials" of the Indian Constitution,” said Dal Khalsa leaders Dr Manjinder Singh and Kanwar Pal Singh and alliance partner Akali Dal (Panch Pardani) leader Harpal Singh Cheema. Dal Khalsa leaders gave a call to masses to stay away from official functions of Republic Day across the state in protest.

“While the government machinery celebrates this day, our appeal to the masses was to stay away from celebrations and reflect on the history of the dark shadow which this constitution of India has brought over to Punjab over the past 65 years,” the statement added. They said the history of this region with the “Republic of India was a book stained with much blood and tears of Sikhs.”

“This is a constitution which permits the implementation of draconian laws like the UAP Act (1967), Armed Forces Special Powers Act, Disturbed Areas Act and Prevention of Terrorism Act.

“All these legislations were used to suppress and silence legitimate political activism and detain thousands of Sikhs, Kashmris, Nagas, Assamese, Dalits and other minorities for long”.

“Under these legislations security forces are given a free hand to run riot with no fear of being held accountable for their criminal actions,” they observed.

Even I boycott Pakistani existence every day. But does it matter? Do I have any significance? Same applies to other examples too.

I am also a minority since i am a Punjabi & belong to Shatria caste & also i live in Delhi which has only 6 seats in Parliament also i am below 20 so my age group is also a minority
