Currie: CWG could be called off

Shouldnt we wait for the CWG committe to comment on the preparations and accomodations provided as opposed to bending over backwards for some Aussies and Kiwis?

If the CWG committee agrees with them, then we have a problem

Nevertheless....one thing is for sure.....If the CWG are indeed sub par, we need a major overhaul in the way we run things.....
The culprits need to be held accountable....Hopefully we can improve our management techniques and hand jobs of such magnitudes to the likes of NaMo and not useless Putz's like Kalmadi

Exactly!!!! Lets give the Pakistanis their day, Some have been waiting for such news. Lets us not forget the Olympics in China which was met with a lot of skepticism. Let me underline some points here

leadership conceived it, this year's Olympic Games were to mark the country's debut as a global power, with a booming economy and rapidly modernizing society. Instead, it's beginning to look as though the Games could become a showcase for violent repression, censorship and political persecution by a regime that has failed to rise above the level of police state.

Will China "Lose" the 2008 Olympics?
Will China "Lose" the 2008 Olympics?
But as China's leaders begin final preparations for the Games next August, they may be wondering if hosting the event was such a good idea after all. They have significant reasons for doubt.

Pollution risk for Olympic events
BBC SPORT | Pollution risk for Olympic events
Olympic chief Jacques Rogge says air pollution could lead to some events at the 2008 Beijing Games being postponed.

There are scores more but the unwritten rule is many countries will always see India as a Land of snake charmers and the poor. No amount of innovation will change their mind.

While this does not mean we should not own up for our deficiency in the whole thing but how serious is the problem? If there is any solace in this whole fiasco..the games haven't yet begun..so lets hope the coming week has more to cheer for all of us!

Was Wondering If these CWG People considered Other Cities especially South Cities Banglore or Madras.
ofcourse, no use now. :P

Narendra Modi claimed that had the event been held in Gujrat and not an uber Metro such as Delhi, it would have been planned and executed with a much ease.....

As much as of a "black sheep" Narendra Modi maybe, he is an excellent administrator and for some reason I believe his above statement.....

Actions speak louder that words, and the level of development in Gujrat speaks for itself...

The difference is in the nature of the scepticism. Then it was a matter of human rights group and Tibetan sympathizers wanting the IOC to take away the Olympics from China and other concerns like pollution, freedom to broadcast, and allowing protests during the games. There was never any doubt about the competence or skill in which the games would be carried out.

Whereas the nature of the scepticism about the CWG is whether India can do the games safely and competently.

Commonwealth Games 2010: 10 reasons why they should go ahead

1. India really has made an effort

In the recent tradition of games hosted by developing nations eager to show they too can build fibreglass enormo-domes, India has thrown the kitchen sink at Delhi 2010. The Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium now has a roof coated in 53,800 sq m of Teflon and 4,000 labourers have worked around the clock. More controversially, a "beautification" programme has seen 100,000 homeless Delhi-ites relocated and tasteful bamboo screens erected around city slums. We can only hope they at least get to keep the bamboo screens.

2. It is already a nail-biter

The first big question of Delhi 2010 is: will Delhi 2010 actually take place? This week odds on the games being scrapped were cut to 4-1 after a new footbridge attached to the main stadium collapsed, injuring 23 people. This followed the announcement by Scottish team officials that the athletes' village is "unfit for human habitation" and an outbreak of Dengue fever. Don't listen to the bookies though. India is a mob-handed muddle-ocracy and these games – one way or another – are going to happen. Probably.

3. Scotland and Wales get to have a go

The games may reek of tiffin, punka-wallahs and fusty imperial anachronisms, but they are also a hothouse of devolution: only here do Scotland and Wales get the chance to win medals free from the yoke of the British flag – although not very many.

4. So do lots of other people

Also competing in Delhi are the Cook Islands, Gibraltar, Guernsey and Tokelau, a dependency of New Zealand with a population of 1,500.

5. Get it while you can

This is an event that appears increasingly drained of vital signs, crowded out by the biannual World Championships and lucrative grand prix events. Among those absent are heptathlon star Jessica Ennis, cycling deities Chris Hoy and Victoria Pendleton and gym queen Beth Tweddle. Basically: if you've heard of them, they're not going to be there. The tide of history is against the Commonwealths, so enjoy it while it's here.

6. Fresh faces

The upside of which is we get the chance to garland some unlikely heroes. The English diving team will contain a 13-year-old schoolgirl called Alicia Blagg. And Scotland's swimming hopes are pinned on Hannah Miley, whose training regime, devised by her father, involves towing a large sponge around the pool. "He attaches a sponge to me," Miley explained recently. "It's just one of those jumbo sponges you wash your car with.'' This is truly the spirit of ingenuity that built a commonwealth.

7. India will go nuts . . .

. . . most likely, over shooter Abhinav Bindra, its first individual Olympic gold medallist in Beijing two years ago. Bindra's father, recalling his son's days as a child prodigy, said: "When he was five he would place a balloon on the head of his maid and shoot it." Normally the most sparsely attended of sports, shooting isn't going to know what's hit it.

8. The big one for bowls

This is the only stage where the flat-capped pursuit of rolling heavy balls along a very nice stretch of lawn attracts such headline status. Watch out too for netball and squash, plus – potentially in 2014 – snooker. At last: a games with real games.

9. You can't avoid it anyway

The BBC is currently planning to broadcast 1,800 hours of Commonwealth Games across its TV and web channels, the equivalent of 75 straight 24-hour days. At least 56 presenters and pundits have been despatched, including Huw Edwards, whose duties extend to "ceremonies". Looking forward to those, Huw.

10. Do it for the Queen

The Queen has stoically attended every Commonwealth Games of her reign except for 1966 in Jamaica. She is, however, set to miss Delhi just when suddenly it makes quite a lot of sense to go crawling back to our resurgent post-colonial would-be allies. Indian billionaire investors: you still have our support. At least, for 10 minutes or so during the highlights, before the squash starts.

another Jewel i read in another forum:

I am surprised how folks here dont get the Chankyaness of GoI in organizing the CWG in Delhi.

A few facts we can all agree on:
1) Any endeavor like CWG, Asiad or Olympics costs a lot of money and leaves the host nation with red ink on the books.
2) We are a bania nation so we will always look at the lowest cost option.
3) An Asiad or an Olympic games is a much larger affair than CWG hence would cost more compared to CWG.
4) India shinning was an idea aggressively pushed by NDA(read BJP) instead of the Aam aadmi agend of UPA(read INC and allies).

With India growing economically at close to double digit, She will be expected to display her progress by staging world events. We chose to organize a CWG which no one other than British Commonwealth nations cares about. Now if we screw this one royally than no sane nation will ever prod us to host another world event any time soon. Thus no chance of an Asiad or Olympics coming to India thus no chance of us spending more money on such ventures. Thus I offer that this CWG screw up was a intentional chanakyan move by GoI to save its money from wasteful world events. How is that for a Tin foil hat idea? UPA wadis feel free to latch on to this theory before the brown matter begins to stink up Delhi.
And:
I wonder such feeble , delicate stomachs ruled India for 200 years.
Ab tho balwan (strong) atheletes are running away from games not even war games

First they say they saw CWG workers peeing out on the grounds
Then they complain Worker used the toilets ( dont they know that there are things called unit testing, System testing and then Integration testing.

So CWG has now WC games and we are winning hands down

.
cwg games will be called off???????????? hahaha
it will not & these goras have always problem, let them cry, they will participate while crying & will leave doing same

Yup silly whities wanting things like clean rooms, toilets that flush and bridges that dont fall over when you walk across them. Perhaps rather than complaining that the goras dont like the accomodation you might start asking why the games are costing 5 times the budget and are only half built a week out?
Some people got very rich i suggest you track them down before the flight to Switzerland leaves.

It does take some of the edge off if you show you can be self-deprecating about it. Something incidentally China has trouble doing. (can you imagine Hu Jingtao cracking a joke about well.... anything?)

Dont make the CPC look like a bunch of tightassed politicians.....

I bet the CPC parties hard.....Though they may be the kings of the underground scene.....They do want to keep up appearances!..LOL

Hu Jintao the party monster!....Now thats something Id pay to see..

Damn whiteys... What bridges don't fall over for no reason in your country?!? Well La De Da.

The bridge experienced a premature eja... err.. detonation.

It was supposed to take care of all those whites cribbing about ****** toilets. While you are at it - have some better reason to crib about we Indians are anyways too touchy about toilet related things.

Finally the CWG troubles have demonstrated that Toilet issues are stronger than Terrorism issues for India. What security threat could not accomplish - toilet threat has.

To be fair though, I'd be pretty pissed too if I went to a hotel and the toilets got a floater in it and everything was covered in muck .

I have heard even the terrorists have pulled out of the CWG due to similar reasons.
