Relax. The Chinese reportedly put a very attractive salary offer on the table for the chairman post he can’t resist. The Chinese are smart. HNA goes on shopping tour by buying western companies but face recently lots of suspicion and resistance, simply the company is controlled by Chinese government. By employing a non chinese that is as smart as them they try to circumvent the resistance.

The US for instance know China sells steel to the West thru Vietnam. There are more examples.

They are oversea Vietnamese themselves, or their descendants. Most Vietnamese who living in Vietnam do not know and do not care.

Now, seeing that the West is no longer a paradise, and Vietnam become more promising, many oversea Viet changed their attitude. Very likely that they want to show that oversea Vietnamese are something.

It isn’t bragging. Nearly all threads here talk on China, most non Chinese viewers aren’t interested of, I just add another China thread. Why do you complain? Actually I am a fan of China. Vietnamese/Chinese cooperation is the way to go. In the West you face lots of resistance by selling Chinese products, but if you label with Vietnamese names, voila people buy. Huawei is another example, having big trouble to sell devices to western companies. I bet if you relabeled people could consider to buy.

Agreed that after 1976, there is a lot of problem with ethnic Hoa, but that was history.

I am talking about current situation. Ethnic Hoa are falling behind, especially against North Vietnamese, even with incentive given by our government to help them.

Btw, ethnic Chinese will always retain the surname no matter what name they put in front to blend in. It's the core of our identity, no matter where you go, your surname stays with you. Even your surnames were given by us to give you some civilization. So if a Chinese is surnamed Rossler, he is no longer Chinese to me.

Around 2 - 3 years ago, southern universities started to give ethnic Hoa students same incentive (1 -2 points), same as other ethnic minorities, to enter universities. I believe it is one of the most important incentive for their education. Not sure if it still continue now.

I guess you don't know pre-Vietnam war history of the Hoas or the history of Han Chinese aristocrats in Korea and Japan. The immigrants in Korea and Japan faced even more discrimination than the ethnic Hoas in Vietnam. Competition and meritocracy is the foundation of Confucianism, all Confucian based societies are like that. Anyhow, I love Vietnamese food but to state that Chinese food goes bankrupt is a really naive and simplistic. Any food that sucks will perish, authentic North and South Chinese food is awesome, not the gooey shit some fresh off the boats immigrants cook up.

Btw, most smart Viets I meet in the West are ethnic Hoas, funny how they still preserve Viet cuisine and open up so many Vietnamnese food shops. Hell they even speak Vietnamnese among themselves.
