Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım today phoned his Bangladesh counterpart Sheikh Hasina and expressed his country’s interest in working together to combat the menace of militancy.

During the 15-minute-long conversation this evening, the Turkish PM also expressed his grave concern over the Sylhet militant issue, sources at the Prime Minister’s Office said.

The Turkish premier also conveyed his sympathy to the bereaved family members of the civilians who have died in the three-day-long army-led joint “Operation Twilight” at Atia Mahal located in Sylhet's Dakshin Surma upazila.

Reiterating her government's zero tolerance policy against terrorism, the Bangladesh premier said some derailed people are defaming Islam in the name of religion, reports the state run new agency, BSS.

"They are destroying Islamic culture and heritage in the name of religion," she said.

Sheikh Hasina also said Bangladesh condemned the last year's coup attempt in Turkey to overthrow the present government there.

"We always uphold democracy and peace," she said.

She invited the Turkish premier to visit Bangladesh at a convenient time.

At the outset of the conversation, the Turkish prime minister exchanged greetings with his Bangladesh counterpart and congratulated her on the occasion of the 47th Independence and National Day of Bangladesh.

He also mentioned that the traditional and historic relations with Bangladesh which were reciprocated by Sheikh Hasina.

No Thank you...
When someone like Ataturk comes along we will work with you... not with the current scumbags..

You are minority in this regard I can vouch for it. Erdogan is quite popular unless you are a Russia-Iran fanboy/ Communist / Extremely Islamophobe/ Shahbag- Imran Sarkar fanboy. Ataturk is now-a-days in general frowned upon for some anti-islamic role.

Plus It is extremely important to work with Turkey right at this moment for tracking returning ISIS fighters. Soon after the fall of Islamic state they will disperse around the world.

Bangladesh Army already uses Otokar Cobra vehicles..... and Bangladesh Navy is co-operating with Turkish Navy in the Mediterranean Sea on UN mission.... military co-op is already there, which may go up to a more respectable place given the global geopolitical shifts going on in Trump era....

these are signs of shifting geopolitics....

turkey has a far better defense industry comparing to pak and india, we must work with them not just in defense fields but also in trade.

its not just the quality of defence equipment.... Israel has much better things than may others, but we simply can't knock their door.... and thats not because of quality of weapons, but because of geopolitical alignments....

Turkey's is becoming very influential in Europe now.... and recently Bangladesh recognized Kosovo, which is part of Eastern Europe.... new geopolitical alignments are taking shape....

Well, I dont care about defence industry, I only care about trade. We need to increase our trade with Turkey and build people to people relation. It should not matter which government in power in both country.

Where was turkey when these Bangladeshis entered the syrian territory through Turkish border? There was a time when atleast 50-100 foreign fighters used to enter Syria through turkish border. You think that happened without the knowledge of turkey?
There are satellite picture clearly showing oil tankers from the Is territory getting into Turkey. Where did they these IS scumbags make billions of dollars in 2015/2016?

Erdogan is the same scumbag who shot down russian jet clearly knowing what the jet was there for. He is also the same scumbag who is not fighting "Is" with the Kurds (the group that actually fought "is" on the ground) and instead fought against the Kurds. Finally he is also the same scumbag who loves supporting the war-criminals like Nizami.

You are quiet outdated on this regard, those oil tanker and whole those IS stuff already debunked in Turkish section. You should visit us more often. Those Kurds ( YPG ) a branch of PKK so they are terrorists too, at Euprates Shield operation we already killed 3k + IS terrorists and liberated 2k sq km2 area. So, Turkey supports IS story is not selling anymore. Btw, Syria - Turkey border is more than 900 km so you can't control every meter of it but in order to prevent it we already built a wall, half of it already completed.

You let IS fighters in through your territory for months... You shot down a russian jet that was fighting IS. In my eyes your country clearly aided 'is" and hence a terrorist (not the ypj).

We all know what Erdogan is... you can debunk all you want... the billions of dollars did not fall from the sky... those oil had to go somewhere and through certain territory...

RIP seeker daily aka test tube....

if turkey finishes altay tanks.... i hope they sell us some. :)
and it would be cool if our army and airforces hold joint excercise and conduct pilot exchange training programs to learn more from each other.... i believe the actor riyaz completed his f-16 advanced fighter combat training in turkey.

Yup i unsubbed from them and all their sister channels this year. They have gone into full libtard propaganda mode on too many issues.

This is a wrong attitude. BD is not in a position to be so selective and neither can it preach from some vantage point of moral superiority.

Do I like Erdogan and his goons personally? No. But do I recommend not cooperating with Turkish govt (representative of its people) because of that?....also no. Thats why Erdogan is visiting India later this year, to sign many deals (possibly an FTA)...and I completely support it.

Turkey imported some 900 million USD worth from BD in 2016 under Erdogan. So I would act wisely if I were you.

SHW inviting Turkish premier to visit at earliest convenience is thus welcome move.
