Crucial Indian Cruise Missile Tests In A Year.

About the hypersonic cruise missile, a more advanced version of the BrahMos, Dr Saraswat said it also would be ready by 2012. A successful test of the technology of the missile was carried out in a laboratory in May 2008 at a speed of 6.5 Mach. The hypersonic demonstrator vehicle will attain a level flight, for a ground-to-ground test, at a height of 30 km from the ground, before it hits the target with a speed between seven and eight Mach.

The hypersonic missile BrahMos-2 will be the Mach 8 version of the missile. It will be the country’s first hypersonic cruise missile. It is an advanced version of the present air-launched missile.

It will need much less warhead, the kinetic ;) enery will do the rest.
 
Ok dude one simple question,
do you think a interceptor can directly hit a object which is travelling at speed of mach 3 which cruises @10meter above the sea before it hits the target....?
 
Cruise missile Nirbhay will be ready in 2012

The country’s first indigenous subsonic cruise missile, Nirbhay (Fearless), will be ready early next year.

“The integration of the engine is under way. All processes are on for the sub-sonic medium-range cruise missile,” said Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) chief VK Saraswat at the air show.

The missile with a range of 1,000km can be launched from multiple launchers. It will arm all the three services.Nirbhay is expected to supplement the BrahMos cruise missile, which has a range of 300km.

Good! They are going really fast. But they must increase the range to 2000 km.


DRDO and NPO-Mash are working on a sustained flight scramjet, which will be the core element in the Mark-2 version of BrahMos.

About the ballistic missile defence shield, Dr Saraswat said that the next advanced air defence test (AAD) will take place this month.

The ballistic missile defence shield test had failed on March 15, 2010 but was test-fired successfully later.

Another AAD test this month. This test is difficult one.

The exo-atmospheric interceptor missile, called PAD (Prithvi Air Defence), will now be called PDV (Prithvi Defence Vehicle), and will intercept at 150km altitude compared to the earlier 50km range.

Destroying a BM at 150 km altitude is excellent. No news when they gonna test it?

“All elements of aerospace are within our grip and India would soon be an aerospace power,” Saraswat said.

The nuclear-capable strategic Agni-V, with a range of 5,000km, will be tested by the end of this year. The software and hardware of the missile are in the integration stage.

Actually, when it comes to ramjet engine technology and materials science, it is.

Btw Indian Universities by themselves have come to a stage where they have taken up the Research on Ramjet/Scramjet Research Concept (Nuclear and Conventional), And DRDO and ISRO have Moved ahead in time and Have Tested the conventional Technologies

Greater speed = more friction (IR signature) + straighter terminal approach = easier to intercept (if detected early enough)

The tables turn at mach 20 because, at that speed, a 30 km detection range gives only 3 seconds to react.

Unless the sea is boiling hot, the IR signature will stick out like a sort thumb.

The engine technology is supplied by the Russians anyway. The bigger problem is to find materials which can withstand the high speeds.
 
India tested More Maneuverable BrahMos Supersonic Cruise Missile Successfully
India tested the new version of BrahMos cruise missile on 21-Mar-2010, and became the first country to develop a maneuverable supersonic cruise missile. The missile had a vertical lift off from the ship and was then maneuvered to hit the target ship.
The BrahMos missile, developed with Russia, can carry nuclear and conventional warheads weighing 620 to 660 pounds (280 to 300 kilograms) and has a maximum range of 180 miles (290 kilometers).
The missile can fly at 2.8 times the speed of sound and can be launched from land, ships, submarines and aircraft.
The standard version of the missile has already been tested more than a dozen times, but this was the first test of the new version.The new version is more maneuverable version of BrahMos supersonic cruise missile that was jointly developed with Russia
The test proved it was possible to change the direction of the missile at supersonic speeds before hitting the target. According to the officials BrahMos can turn upto 360 degrees during the flight and hit the target.

So leave mach 3 is outdated,
Next year they will test mach8 brahmos,
then all ur same sub-sonic SAM theory will work....?

The ESSM claims to intercept BrahMos but it is designed to intercept all kinds of missiles.
An interceptor for BrahMos does not need active radar sensing; all it's looking for is an IR target moving at mach 2.8+.
And since the BrahMos is coming towards it, the interceptor doesn't need to chase it down.

Remember, the interceptor is passive so the BrahMos doesn't know it's there and isn't taking evasive action.

I didn't make myself clear. The problem is not the engine, whoever supplies it. It's the materials for the outer skin.

1st of all nothing should be based on your assumption like why can't we do this to make "CESSNA as space ship",then why cant we make this whole world a Disney land etc etc ....

and which interceptor yaar!!!! ??? do america got 1 to intercept ???

Unless the BrahMos is flying over a bed of lava, its friction heat signature will be easy to detect.

ESSM. Although it does not use an IRST, but RF radar.

Brahmos is outdated,so we will test Brahmos-II next year..it will be Mach-8 speed..
then all will this same theory applies for mach 8 missile flying @10 meters above the sea....??
