Caught on camera: CRPF men damaging public property
Srinagar: A video purportedly showing CRPF troopers going berserk in Nawab Bazaar locality of downtown Srinagar has gone viral on social networking websites.
The 11 minute grainy video clip title ‘Nawab Bazar Kani Jung’ has apparently been shot with a mobile camera from a high rise building near the SMHS Hospital in Nawab Bazaar and has been uploaded on the YouTube on Saturday. The clip has been widely shared on Facebook and Twitter drawing severe condemnation from the users.
In the shaky video, CRPF troopers, carrying rifles, batons and shields are seen going berserk while chasing groups of protesters. An armored vehicle is seen chasing the protesters.
Besides, smashing windowpanes of residential houses with stones and sticks, the troopers in video are seen tearing off tarpaulin sheet of a shop. The troopers can also be seen kicking doors of a few residential houses. As the troopers retreat, a bulletproof Gypsy escorts them.
Refuting the allegations, Inspector General of CRPF, V S Vadav told Kashmir Reader that his men don’t indulge in such activities. “It must be an old video of any other force. Our men are disciplined. They don’t break windowpanes or damage property,” he added.

LOL ! I have been covering south kashmir from 09/02/13. CRPF guys are working in such a pathetic situation that no force in this world can work. they all are going with only lathi and body protectors only, and even then not allowed to use them, they are like the live FEED being put up to terrorists, and any time any where a bunch of hooligans can throw stones on them and bully them because they know well that poor guys can not respond, one week ago i was following a convoy of crpf from anantnag to kulgam, on the way there was a crowd of 25 school drop out teen edgers, they just stared to throw stones on the convoy with out any provocation just for fun. that was a heavy stone pelting, and four vehicles including commander's vehicles got completely damaged. but he did not responded at all and kept moving to kulgam. afterword during an informal discussion, when i asked him that why he did not responded, he replied with very gloomy face that, "vehicles are government owned, will be replaced, but my service, if gone, will not be restored. and then he got busy sending his injured troops for treatment. Now i bet if this event would have happened inpakistan, all of them would have been shot dead.
