Last LS election results do show us, that the Jewel in CPI(M)'s crown, West Bengal has been well and truly lost. They have conceded a lot of ground to BJP and it looks unlikely that they are going to re-cover it anytime soon.
The problem with CPI is that they don't want to change with time still living in their Utopian world. The longest serving Communist government in WB, actually made life worse. W Bengal had (it still has) some of the best lands, human skill etc but it has slipped so badly in industrial development owing to promotion of labor unions led Goonda raj coupled with CPI cadre based terror tactics, that it almost looks there is no democracy. How long will people tolerate this?
There is nothing fresh about these guys and while they will always find supporters, CPI in India will meet the same fate as it did in East Europe and later Russia.

I agree with karat...Actually instead of using Israeli LGB's that saved our A$$ during Kargil war we should have simply used karat and his likes as suicide bombers...put an explosive around their neck and use the carpet bombing technique by parachuting them...irrespective of the fact that such a technique would have managed to kill enemy or not i can assure members about strict "no wastage" clause

I am from a state which has a significant presence of CPM and they have ruled this state for close to 30 years......

If one go by the history of Kerala, CPM should have got 14 - 17 seats in kerala during general elections, and they have got half of it, shows the state which they are in....... The kind of performance which current govt is showing, the normal CPM would have been all over the place and they would be doing everything to defame the govt, and create awareness for next election....... I cant see any significant actions from them..... They are in cross roads and do not know which way to head, because their ideology and their way of politics are out dated......

This was one party which did not say anything against Chinese during 1962 war!!!!!!!!!!!!!
