Cow slaughter to be punishable by life sentence in Indian state

Cow has always been an animal, Not just in the 21st century.

At least in 21st Century, Humans should realize that Cow is also an animal too just like Humans.
So are you trying to tell me that Humans are also animals? The word human means something that has brains.

So are you trying to tell me that Humans are also animals? The word human means something that has brains.

Unfortunately, some Humans do not have brains.

Yes, Animals do have a Brain. Its just that some Humans think otherwise.

Do just human beings have a brain, or do all animals?

Essentially all animals have a brain, in one form or another, which enables them to function. In invertebrates, animals which have no backbone, like earthworms and insects, the workings of their various body parts are coordinated by clusters of nerve cells called "ganglia." The ganglia receive information from the sense organs, which they use as a basis for controlling the animal's behavior, such as its feeding processes.

Vertebrates, which are animals which have a backbone, have a more well-developed brain. The brain of vertebrates may be divided into three main regions: the forebrain region, the midbrain region, and the hindbrain region. The more advanced the animal, the larger and more highly developed is the forebrain region relative to the other regions of the brain. Human beings have the most highly developed brain of all animal species, especially in the forebrain region.

Some "thinking" occurs even in lower animals, such as birds. They are able to process, store, and analyze information, which give them an impressive ability to learn new behavior. The brain reaches its highest degree of development in mammals. The brains of chimpanzees and other apes are the most highly developed, and more closely resemble the human brain than that of any other animal species. Some chimpanzees have been known to exhibit almost human behavior, and have been taught to communicate with people, to an extent, through the use of sign language.

On a functional basis, the human brain, as well as the brain of other vertebrates, may be divided into three main parts: the cerebrum, which is essentially the forebrain; the cerebellum; and the brain stem. The cerebrum, among other things, processes sensory information, and is believed to be involved in the carrying out of the higher mental functions, like reasoning and language formation. The cerebellum is concerned with the maintaining of proper body balance and muscular coordination. And the brain stem relays sensory information to various parts of the brain, as well as performing other important functions.

Following is a sketch indicating the three main functional components of the human brain and those of a bird. The cerebrum comprises a greater proportion to the total brain size in human beings than it does in any other animal.

The cerebrum comprises about eighty-five percent of the weight of the human brain. The outer-most part of the cerebrum is called the "cerebral cortex," or just the "cortex." The cerebral cortex is also referred to as the "neocortex," meaning "new cortex," as it differs from that in lower vertebrates. The cortex folds upon itself many times, thus forming a surface having many ridges and grooves, which gives it a greatly increased surface area. The cerebrum of lower animals have less folds and, therefore, a smoother cortex surface and less surface area. Most of the cerebrum below the cortex consists of nerve cell fibers connecting various parts of the cortex to itself and to other parts of the brain.

Although we think of our brain as being a single whole, the cerebrum of human beings, as well as that of all mammals, is divided physically into two hemispheres. The cerebral hemispheres are interconnected by a large tract of nerve bundles containing over a quarter-billion nerve cells, which acts as a communication network between the two hemispheres. The left and right hemispheres are almost a mirror image of each other physically, but differ significantly in some of the functions each performs.

The following is an underside view of the human brain. It shows the left and right cerebral hemispheres of the brain, as well as the cerebellum and the brain stem. Also shown are the thalami, hypothalamus, and pons segments of the brain stem, which are responsible for many important functions performed by the brain.

If one were to cut through the cerebral cortex, that is, the outer layer of the cerebrum, there would be observed a whitish-yellow substance and a pinkish colored substance. After exposure to formaldehyde, the pinkish substance becomes a white color, and the whitish-yellow one becomes gray; hence, the term "gray matter" commonly being used to denote the intellectual capacity of a person.

The white matter makes up the bulk of the space of the brain and forms a vast network of cross connections between various parts of the brain. The gray matter is only a few millimeters thick and contains nerve cells called "neurons." Each of the major functional parts of the brain, i.e., the cerebrum, the cerebellum, and the brain stem, contain certain neurons that are grouped together to form centers that are responsible for specific functions of the brain.

Please don't take it as offense but can cows think like humans?

I am not offended at all.

Read the quote from my earlier post.

Cow is a Mammal and its brain would be very close to that of Humans than other animals of primitive phases of evolution.

Now Hindus concern is not just about brains but about the utility of the animal too while protection of all life being the primary concern.

So the purpose of banning cow slaughter is what not sacredness of the animal for Hindus?

Hinduism has always been based on science and social principles.

There is nothing permanently sacrosanct in Hinduism. There is no finality in Hinduism.

It has and will always keep changing with time.

There is only one constant in Hinduism, That is Change.

Read the below links where I elaborated (highlighted in blue)

The Indian breed of cows actually produce milk that is most closest to Human milk of one's mother. That is what Krishna had said in Bhagavad Gita.

Around 5000 BCE during the time of Sri Krishna, cow was declared as sacred.

Sri Krishna grew up in a yadav community and yadavs are primarily cow herders hence cow was very important animal for them as they made their living on the dairy products from cows. For the same reason Sri Krishna has always been depicted with cows.

One of the names of Krishna is Gopal (Gau + Pal) meaning ruler (Pal) of the cows (Gau).

You may read below, the sacredness of cows as described in Sri Krishna's words in Bhagavad gita.

The Srimad Bhagavad-Gita
and the Sacredness of All Cows

by Swami Bhakti Vedanta Varaha

cow-gomatha_vishnu.gif

Lord Krishna states in Srimad Bhagavad-Gita: chapter 10, verse 28

dhenunam asmi kamadhuk

dhenunam-among cows, asmi-I am, kamadhuk-the wish fulfilling cow

Among cows I am the wish fulfilling cow.

In this verse Lord Krishna reveals that among cows He is manifested as the kamadhuk meaning kamadhenu the original wish fulfilling cows known as the surabhi cows. Just who and what are the surabhi cows and how the surabhi cows attained such an elevated and exalted position that they are able to represent a portion of the energy of the supreme Lord Krishna will be revealed in the following information given in the Anusasana Parva of the Mahabharata by Krishna Dvaipayana Vyasa.

The surabhi cow descended from the spiritual worlds and manifested herself in the heavenly spheres from the aroma of celestial nectar for the benefit of all created beings. The direct descendants of the surabhi cows are the sacred cows from the continent India which are uniquely distinguished the same as the surabhi by the beautiful hump on their backs and the wonderfully soft folds of skin under their necks. Since all cows in existence in the world today are factual descendants of the sacred cows of India they are all holy as well and should always be lovingly cared for and protected with the highest esteem and greatest respect. One should never cause harm to cows in any way even in a dream and one should never ever even think of eating the flesh of cows as there is no action more sinful in all of creation then cow killing.

Cows are the mothers of all creatures. Cows are verily the mothers of the 33 crores of demigods that administrate creation in the material existence throughout all the universes. Cows are the goddesses of the gods and the refuge of all auspiciousness. Cows bestow every kind of happiness and for these reason they always are worshippable. Cows are the support of all the worlds for by their milk they nourish terrestrials beings and by their ghee offered in sacrifice they nourish the denziens of the celestial realms. Nothing superior to cows.

A cow should not be owned by one who is a killer of cows or a seller to killers of cows, by one who is unrighteous, by one who is sinful, by one who is untruthful in speech, and by one who is outside of the Vedic culture nor should cows ever be given to one such as these. Gifts of cows should be made after ascertaining and determining the qualification of the receiver. Cows should never be given unto those whose residence they are likely to suffer from fire or sun. Cows should always be given away accompanied by their calves. Those cows who have been rescued from situations of distress or have been received from humble farmers unable to continue to take care of them properly are considered to be most auspicious.

One should never show disrepect for cows in any way nor should one feel any repugnance towards the urine and dung of a cow because these things are also pure. When cows are grazing or laying down relaxing one should never disturb or annoy them in any way. Cows should never be killed in any type of sacrifice or slaughtered in any way for food as the killing of cows constitutes the most heinous of all sins in existence.

Cows are the foremost of all creatures in all the worlds. It is from cows that the means for sustaining the worlds has established. Cows are auspicious and sacred and the bequeathers of every blessing. Cows benefit humans with milk, yoghurt, cheese, butter and ghee. The Vedas have stated that the milk of a cow is equivalent to ambrosial nectar and that ghee derived from cows milk is the best of all libations poured onto the sacred fires of brahmins.

Cows of various kinds and diverse colors are always worshippable. They are the foremost of all creatures existing in all of creation. Morning and evening one should bow ones head in reverence to cows. One should never show any disregard to cows in any way but should always show them respect. When one awakes in the morning one should always remember cows. Before falling to sleep at night one should always remember cows. Cows are always auspicious. Cows are also fragrant. The wonderful scent of the amytis agallochum emantes from out of their sacred bodies.

Cows are the great refuge of all creatures. Cows constitute the greatest source of blessings for all creatures. Cows are the past. Cows are the future. Cows are the source of evolution and eternal growth. Cows are the root of prosperity. Whatever is given to cows always produces good fortune and is never in vain. It is solely and exclusively from the ghee of cows that the sacred rituals prescribed and authorised in the Vedas are empowered and able to be performed. Without the presence of cows ghee there is no possibiity of performing sacred rituals that will gratify the 33 million demigods who are responsible for universal management. Neither will the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Lord Krishna be pleased and satisfied. Ghee comes exclusively only from cows from whom flow offerings of milk and milk products. Thus cows verily establish the purity of all sacred rituals and constitute the very essence of performing all sacred activities being the very source of sacred activities.

Cows represent sacred acts themselves and without cows there can be no performance of any sacred act. This is the pure, sublime and supremely exalted position and pre-eminence of cows above all creatures in all the worlds. One who knows the pre-eminence of cows and the selfless service cows render to all creatures and does not protect them affectionately is a sinner and offender and their destination is certainly hell. Cows are equal to the rays of the sun that travel through the universe giving light, warmth and nourishment.

In previous yugas the Vedic injunction was given jiyaite pare yadi tabe mare prani veda-purane ache hena ajna vane that means in the Vedic scriptures known as Puranas there are injunctions declaring that one can take the life of a living being only if they are able to revive it back to life again by chanting Vedic mantras. But we find that this injunction has been terminated in todays age of kali yuga by the Brahma-Vaivarta Purana where it is stated that in the present age of kali yuga it is forbidden to kill cows under any circumstances.

Cows are equivalent to our mothers for when the mothers milk has dried up the cow gives her milk unselfishly to noursih and strengthen us. How can one who has ever drunk cows milk justify the killing and eating of such a mother as the sacred cow. One should never even in one's mind do injury to a cow or ever think of harming cows as well as bulls. One should show all respect and compassion for cows and sincere reverence should be offered unto them all without reservation.

Those who fail to give cows reverence and protection and choose to foolishly oppose and whimsically ignore the injunctions of the Vedic scriptures by selling a cow for slaughter, by killing a cow, by eating cows flesh and by permittings the slaughter of cows will all rot in the darkest regions of hell for as many thousands of years as there are hairs on the body of each cow slain. There is no atonement for the killing of a cow.

In Sri Caitanya Caritamrita adi lila, chapter 17 verse 166 Caitanya Mahaprabhu confirms:

go-ange yata loma tata sahasra vatsara

go-vadhi raurava-madhye pace nirantar

Cow killers and cow eaters are condemned to rot in hell for as many thousands of years as there are for each hair on the body of every cow they eat from.

In comparison to the contrary, sanctified living beings with purified souls that make gifts of cows to worthy twice born in the three higher ashrams established in the Vedas attain celestial realms for as many years as there are hairs upon the body of the cows given away in charity. There is no gift higher in merit than the gift of cows to a Vaisnava or duly initiated brahmana of the Vedic culture in one of the four authorised sampradayas.

Cows constitute the highest good. Cows are the root of great blessing for all living beings.. Cows are the source of eternal growth. Cows are the past and the furure. Evolution itself depends upon cows. The mantras used for Vedic rituals such as Swaha and Vashat without which no Vedic rites are complete are eternally establishe d in cows. Cows verily are the fruit of all Vedic rituals because all Vedic rituals are dependent upon the ghee from cows for the performance of sacred rituals which benefit all of creation. Thus the protection of cows is the greatest dharma or eternal duty for all living beings.

There is no wealth that is equal to cows. To talk about cows, to hear others speak about cows, to offer gifts of cows to worthy people and to see cows are all auspicious activities. There is never any inauspiciousness in cows. On Earth cows represent high energy and are endued with the elements of strength and energetic exertion. There are also elements of great wisdom in cows and they are bestowers of great happiness upon all creatures. The country or nation where cows are protected and live without fear of slaughter becomes exalted and the sins of that country are evaporated. Cows constitute the stairs that lead to heaven. Cows are adored in heaven. Cows are goddesses competent to grant every righteous wish and desire. Verily there is nothing in the worlds more elevated or superior to cows.

Cows are superior to all yogis and ascetics and because of this liberated divine being perform their austerities in the company and presence of cows. Cows do not feel cold or heat nor can rain afflict. Cows are never to be sacrificed they are to be given as gifts to worthy brahmanas. The ruler who gives gifts of cows to the foremost of brahmanas is sure to overcome every calamity he encounters. It is ordained in the eternal Vedas that ghee from the cow is the best of all ingredients offered as libations into the sacrificial fire. For this reason one who makes a gift of a cow to worthy brahmanas who will then use the ghee from this cow to perform Vedic ceremonies, that fortunate gifter is regarded as making a gift of a libation for sacrifice. A bovine bull is considered to be the embodiment of heaven. One who offers a bovine bull to an accomplished brahmana has factually reserved themselves a place in heaven. Cows that have been rescued and protected and cared for in distress give even more merit as well as cows received from persons in distress due to an inability to properly take care of their cows.

A cow must never be given to a tiller of soil. Only a bovine bull may be given to a tiller of soil but never a cow. Neither a cow or a bull should ever be given unto one who will kill them. Nor should a cow or a bull be given unto an atheist or one who makes a business selling or trading cows. The Vedas have stated that one who gives away cows or bulls to such sinful persons suffers interminably in a hellish condition.

There is no gift that is higher in merit than the gift of cows. A cow lawfully acquired if given away in charity protects the whole dynasty of the giver. Cows are the source of that immortality which Vedic sacrifices prescribe. They have within them the nature of both the sun and the moon. Cows verily constitute and determine the eternal destiny of creation.

Cows are the life breath of all living creatures therefore one who makes a gift of a cow is said to be making a gift of life breath to all living creatures. Cows are also constituted as the great refuge of all living creatures thus one who makes a gift of a cow is said to be making a gift of that which is the great refuge of all living creatures.

When the surabhi cows first manifested from the aroma of ambrosial nectar they performed severe penance for 100,000 years for the purpose of acquiring the spiritual merit to be the foremost of all things needed for the performance of Vedic rituals and ceremonies; thus only from cow milk exclusively is sanctified ghee produced for the performance of Vedic rituals. Whatever is produced from any and all other types of milk is not authorised by Vedic scriptures and thus not being sanctioned by the Vedas can never be used in any Vedic rituals or ceremonies.

At the conclusion of the surabhi cows austerities Brahma himself appeared before them and granted their wishes blessing them with the benediction that cows would eternally be the sustainers of all creatures. This is why cows are sacred and most holy and the foremost of all creatures in creation and verily the refuge of all the worlds.

The cow is extremely important regarding the destiny of the total human species in all the worlds and creation itself that her value is impossible to overestimate. The name for cow in the Vedas is known as aghyna which means invioable. Another name is ahi which means not to be killed and another is aditi which means never to be cut into pieces.

Some scholars and indologists in India as well as from western countries without having ever experienced the Vedic culture as a way of life have speculated that cows and other animals were sacrificed in Vedic ceremonies. They take unorthodox interpretations of obscure verses in the Vedas, out of context to postulate this point of view. Two examples of this we are giving as follows.

First in the Satapatha Brahmana, 3.1.2.21 there is a gross interpolation from western scholars echoed by indolologists around the world that the great sage Yajnavalkya would eat the tender meat of cows and bulls. The word dhenu which they translated as cow factually refers to the milk products of the cow only and not the cow herself and the sanskrit word anaduh factually refers to the grains produced by the bull from ploughing the fields. What exactly Yajnavalkya has stated in this verse is that he can eat what is amsala. The interpolators, some being ignorant and some not so ignorant of the rules of Panini have translated amsala as being tender flesh. Panini is the authority on all matters concerning the rules of Sanskrit grammar and according to sutra 5.2.8 of Panini the word amsala can only mean nourishing and strength bestowing. Also in the Amarakosa 2.6.44 it states that amsala is mamsala which never applies to flesh tender or otherwise. Mamsala specifically aplies to cream and sweets made from milk products as well as fresh and dried fruits. So there is no basis according to sastra for translating amsala as flesh.

Secondly some scholars with an extremely limited fund of knowledge want to postulate that meat was an essential ingreient of madhuparka because of one verse in the Rig Veda VI.44.21 which equates Indra as having the strength of a bull and also mentions the sweet drink madhupeya. So they then interpolated the translation to say that bull meat was a part of madhuparka. In this way due to their academic status they are able to mislead the public. The root word madhu means sweet and is sometimes even referred to honey. In the Monier-Williams Sanskrit-English Dictionary page 780 the meaning of madhuparka is offerrings of honey and milk also sometimes containing equal parts of curds and ghee to a respected guest. No where in the Vedas can be found any reference to meat being an ingredient of madhuparka.

So other examples like the previous two interpolators have found useful for their obscure translations; but the clear, direct, unequivocal statements found throughout the Vedas against cow killing they ignore. We will give a few relevant examples now.

In the Rig Veda X.87.16 we find: One who partakes of human flesh, the flesh of a horse or of another animal and deprives others from milk by slaughtering cows ; if such a fiend does not desist then even cut off their heads by your powers Oh king.

In the Atharva Veda VIII.6.23 we find: Those who eat cooked or uncooked flesh, who eat eggs and embryos are following an evil addiction that must be put to an end

In the Srimad Bhagavatam, Canto 11, chapter 5, verse 14 we find: Those who are ignorant of the absolute truth and believe they are virtuous although wicked and arrogant who kill animals without any feeling of remorse or fear of punishment are devoured by those very same animals in their next birth.

In the Mahabharata, Anusasana-parva, 115.43 -116.45 we find: That wretch among men who pretending to follow the path of righteousness prescribed in the Vedas, would kill living creatures from greed of flesh would certainly go to hellish regions.

In the Manu-samhita, chapter 4, verse 162 we find: A guru, a teacher, a father, a mother, a brahmana, a cow and a yogi all should never be killed.

Even in the Old Testament of the Bible which applies to both Christians and Jews in Issaih, chapter 66 verse 3 we find: He that killeth an ox is as if he slew a man. He that sacrifices a lamb is as if he slit a dogs neck, he that offereth it as an oblation is as if he offered swines blood, he that burneth it as incense as if he blessed an idol. Yea they have chosen their way and their soul delighteth in their abominations.

In the Mahabharata, Anusasana-parva, 114.6, 115.6 it states: As the footprints of all moving, living beings are engulfed in those of the elephant, even thus all religions are to be understood by ahimsa which is non-violence to any living being by thought, words or actions.

So from these examples it can be clearly understood that cow killing and cow eating were definitely not sanctioned by the Vedic scriptures to the contrary they were condemned; and also according to the authority of the Bible cow killing is not sanctioned in the Christian religion either.

Just recently in the year 2000 the publication Scientific America reported a complete Cow Human Genome comparison had been completed. Among the 768 genes on the cattle RH map, 687 genes or 89.5% had putative human orthologs. Among the 687 mapped genes, 548 genes had human GB4 RH mapping information. 22 were mapped exclusively on the G3 panel and 68 had human cytogenetic assignments exclusively.

All cow chromosomes with the possible exception of BTA9 and BTA23 have centromere repositioning relative to human chromosomes. Four cattle chromsomes show complete conservation of syntegy with their human homologs. The four are: BTA12 and HSA13, BTA19 and HSA17, BTA24 and HSA18, BTAX and HSAX . For all of these chromosomes multiple rearrangements were observed. BTA3 was the only cow chromosome that showed no internal rearrangments when compared with the homologous segment on HSA1. Fifteen cattle chromosomes are seen to be comprised of genes found on only one human chromosome.

Cow milk is the most compatible with human mothers milk then any other species in existence. This is because the DNA of the cow was specifically constructeds to be harmonious with mammalian human DNA. So it can be clearly understood that cow DNA was designed so humans could benefit from cows products being milk, cheese, butter, cream and yoghurt.

We will end our treatise now as we do not want this discourse to be to voluminous.

This knowledge is highly esoteric and confidential and incomprehensible to those outside the purview of the Vedic culture. It can only be known by that segment of society that is spiritually developed enough to completely abstain from all animal killing and flesh eating while understanding that the soul is eternal and exists in all living beings.

You're Drinking the Wrong Kind of Milk
And we're not talking about soy or almond, either.

When my in-laws moved from India to the United States some 35 years ago, they couldn't believe the low cost and abundance of our milk—until they developed digestive problems. They'll now tell you the same thing I've heard a lot of immigrants say: American milk will make you sick.

It takes HOW much water to make a glass of milk?!
It turns out that they could be onto something. An emerging body of research suggests that many of the 1 in 4 Americans who exhibit symptoms of lactose intolerance could instead be unable to digest A1, a protein most often found in milk from the high-producing Holstein cows favored by American and some European industrial dairies. The A1 protein is much less prevalent in milk from Jersey, Guernsey, and most Asian and African cow breeds, where, instead, the A2 protein predominates.

"We've got a huge amount of observational evidence that a lot of people can digest the A2 but not the A1," says Keith Woodford, a professor of farm management and agribusiness at New Zealand's Lincoln University who wrote the 2007 book Devil in the Milk: Illness, Health, and the Politics of A1 and A2 Milk. "More than 100 studies suggest links between the A1 protein and a whole range of health conditions"—everything from heart disease to diabetes to autism, Woodford says, though the evidence is far from conclusive.

Holstein-cows_1.gif

Holsteins, the most common dairy-cow breed in the United States, typically produce A1 milk. Sarahluv/Flickr
For more than a decade, an Auckland-based company called A2 Corporation has been selling a brand of A2 milk in New Zealand and Australia; it now accounts for 8 percent of Australia's dairy market. In 2012, A2 Corp. introduced its milk in the United Kingdom through the Tesco chain, where a two-liter bottle sells for about 18 percent more than conventional milk.

A2 Corp. recently announced plans to offer its milk in the United States in coming months.
But critics write off the success of A2 Corp. as a victory of marketing over science. Indeed, a 2009 review by the European Food Safety Authority found no link between the consumption of A1 milk and health and digestive problems. So far, much of the research on the matter is funded by A2 Corp., which holds a patent for the only genetic test that can separate A1 from A2 cows. And in 2004, the same year that A2 Corp. went public on the New Zealand Stock Exchange, Australia's Queensland Health Department fined its marketers $15,000 for making false and misleading claims about the health benefits of its milk.

The A1/A2 debate has raged for years in Australia, New Zealand, and parts of Europe, but it is still virtually unheard of across the pond. That could soon change: A2 Corp. recently announced plans to offer its milk in the United States in coming months. In a letter to investors, the company claims that "consumer research [in Los Angeles] confirms the attractiveness of the A2 proposition."

The difference between A1 and A2 proteins is subtle: They are different forms of beta-casein, a part of the curds (i.e., milk solids ) that make up about 30 percent of the protein content in milk. The A2 variety of beta-casein mutated into the A1 version several thousand years ago in some European dairy herds. Two genes code for beta-casein, so modern cows can either be purely A2, A1/A2 hybrids, or purely A1. Milk from goats and humans contains only the A2 beta-casein, yet not everyone likes the flavor of goat milk, which also contains comparatively less vitamin B-12—a nutrient essential for creating red blood cells.

jersey-cow-2.gif

About 65 percent of Jersey cows exclusively produce A2 milk shan213/Flickr
The A1 milk hypothesis was devised in 1993 by Bob Elliott, a professor of child health research at the University of Auckland. Elliott believed that consumption of A1 milk could account for the unusually high incidence of type-1 diabetes among Samoan children growing up in New Zealand. He and a colleague, Corran McLachlan, later compared the per capita consumption of A1 milk to the prevalence of diabetes and heart disease in 20 countries and came up with strong correlations.

Critics argued that the relationships could be explained away by other factors, such as diet, lifestyle, and latitude-dependent exposure to vitamin D in sunlight—and in any case started to fall apart when more countries were included.

African-cow.gif

African cows also tend to produce A2 milk. United Nations Photo/Flickr
Yet a 1997 study by Elliott published by the International Dairy Federation showed A1 beta-casein caused mice to develop diabetes, lending support to the hypothesis, and McLachlan remained convinced. In 2000, he partnered with entrepreneur Howard Paterson, then regarded as the wealthiest man on New Zealand's South Island, to found the A2 Corporation.

Starting in 2003, A2 Corp. sold milk in the United States through a licensing agreement, but pulled out in 2007 after it failed to catch on. Susan Massasso, A2 Corp.'s chief marketing officer, blamed mistakes by the company's US partner, but declined to elaborate. But now the market dynamics may be changing in A2 Corp.'s favor as compelling new research on the A1/A2 debate grabs headlines in the Australian and UK press.

When digested, A1 beta-casein (but not the A2 variety) releases beta-casomorphin7 (BCM7), an opioid with a structure similar to that of morphine. Studies increasingly point to BCM7 as a troublemaker. Numerous recent tests, for example, have shown that blood from people with autism and schizophrenia contains higher-than-average amounts of BCM7. In a recent study, Richard Deth, a professor of pharmacology at Northeastern University in Boston, and his postdoctoral fellow, Malav Trivedi, showed in cell cultures that the presence of similarly high amounts of BCM7 in gut cells causes a chain reaction that creates a shortage of antioxidants in neural cells, a condition that other research has tied to autism. The study, underwritten in part by A2 Corp., is now undergoing peer review in the Journal of Nutritional Biochemistry.

Guernsey-actual-real.gif

Nearly 80 percent of Guernsey cows tested in the US are pure A2, the highest percentage of any traditional breed, according to the American Guernsey Association. podchef/Flickr
The results suggest that drinking A2 milk instead of A1 milk could reduce the symptoms of autism, Trivedi says, but, he adds: "There's a lot more research that needs to be done to support these claims."

Researchers without ties to A2 Corp. are also lending increasing support to the A1 hypothesis. One peer-reviewed study conducted at the National Dairy Research Institute in India, published in October in the European Journal of Nutrition, found that mice fed A1 beta-casein overproduced enzymes and immune regulators that other studies have linked to heart disease and autoimmune conditions such as eczema and asthma.

The leading explanation for why some people but not others may react poorly to A1 milk implicates leaky gut syndrome—a concept that got its start in alternative medicine circles but has been gaining wider traction in the medical establishment. The idea is that that loose connections in the gut, like tears in a coffee filter, allow rogue proteins such as BCM7 to enter the body and run amok. The body brings in immune cells to fight them off, creating inflammation that manifests as swelling and pain—a telltale symptom of autoimmune diseases such as arthritis and diabetes, and autism.

Normande-cow.gif

The A2-producing Normande is a popular breed in France. dominiqueb/Flickr
Though many adults may suffer from leaky guts, the condition is normal in babies less than a year old, who naturally have semi-permeable intestines. This may pose a problem when they're fed typical cow-milk formula. A 2009 study documented that formula-fed infants developed muscle tone and psychomotor skills more slowly than infants that were fed (A2-only) breast milk. Researchers in Russia, Poland, and the Czech Republic have suggested links between BCM7 in cow milk formula and childhood health issues. A 2011 study implicates BCM7 in sudden infant death syndrome: the blood serum of some infants that experienced a "near-miss SIDS" incident contained more BCM7 than of healthy infants the same age. Capitalizing on those findings, A2 Corp. also sells an A2-only infant formula, a2PLATINUM, in Australia, New Zealand, and China.

The mainstream dairy industry in the United States may be more interested in the A1/A2 debate than it lets on. For example, US companies that sell bull semen for breeding purposes maintain information on the exact A1/A2 genetics of all of their offerings. And breeders have already developed A2 Holsteins to replace the A1 varieties typically used in confined agricultural feeding operations. "There is absolutely no problem in moving across to A2 and still having these high-production cows," says Woodford, the Devil in the Milk author, who has in more recent years worked as a consultant for A2 Corp.

But the transition to A2 milk would take a bit of money and a lot of time—probably about a decade, Woodford believes. "The mainstream industry has always seen it as a threat," he says, "whereas another way of looking at it is, hey, this can actually bring more people to drinking milk."

Cow-India.gif

Indian cows produce A2 milk. Poi Photography/Flickr
For now, here in the United States, the best way to get milk with a higher-than-average A2 content is to buy it from a dairy that uses A2-dominant cow breeds such as the Jersey, the Guernsey, or the Normande. In Northern California, for example, Sonoma County's Saint Benoit Creamery specifies on its milk labels that it uses "pastured Jersey cows."

The heirloom A2 cow breeds tend to be hardy animals adapted to living on the open range and not producing a ton of milk, but what they do produce is comparatively thicker, creamier, and, many people say, a lot tastier than what you'll typically find at the supermarket.

"People taste our milk and they say: 'Oh my gosh, I haven't tasted milk like this since I left home,'" and came to America, says Warren Taylor, the owner of Ohio's Snowville Creamery, which has been phasing out A1 cows from its herds. For the time being, the switch to A2 milk "is going to be for the small producers—people like us," he adds. "It's just a part of our responsibility."

Okay one more question? What about water buffaloes are they consider as same as they also poses same qualities and Cow are slaughtered around the world for their meat for centuries and have never been extinct or even near extinction so slaughtering cows is in no way hurting the cow population.

Cow slaughter is a hot-button issue in India, where even rumours of cows being transported can spark murderous reprisals and religious riots
This is the achievement of RSS rightwing terror influence in north Indian society. Ban RSS, Jail pracharaks. Propagate liberal English education and culture, lesser religious influence. This is the path to the future. Instead, these fellows are corrupting education to every other system to inject Hindutva. Remember, India is not unitary. I and millions of Hindus too are still eating beef under the nose of RSS and they cannot do anything. Don't force what the piglets in RSS Sakha teaches on to mainstream society.

In this post let’s go over the difference between Buffalo milk and Cow milk, look at the nutritional and mineral content, and decide which is more suitable for children and/or adults.

Buffalo milk is more thicker and contains slightly more vitamins and minerals than cow milk. However, cow milk more preferred due to following reasons:

  • The fat and protein of cow milk are more easily digestible than those of buffalo milk.
  • The cow milk has also got greater amount of vitamins and minerals.
  • Buffalo milk is injurious to the development of children and only cow milk is useful to them (in the absence of mother’s milk). The buffalo milk is rich in fat, which children can’t digest. Because of indigestion they suffer from diarrhea. The fats in cow milk and buffalo milk differ from each other in their digestive properties. The percentage of volatile and soluble acids is greater in cow ghee, and consequently it is more easily digested.
  • Cow milk, being easily digestible, is more beneficial to patients than buffalo milk.
  • Cow milk is useful for intellectual growth of children.
Let’s have closer look at nutritional value of both Buffalo and Cow milk.

However, its high degree of fat and calories makes it less attractive. So, if you drink buffalo milk you really need to work out. Probably this is the reason why people who work hard in the farm preferred buffalo milk over cow milk.

Why cow milk is good for brain development?
Freshly drawn cow’s milk is yellowish white opaque liquid which is slightly acidic to phenolphthalein but alkaline to methyl orange. It is believed to contain sufficient quantity of sulphur which is a tonic for brain so cow’s milk makes a person mentally alert and physically agile. Perhaps that is the reason the western people are more intelligent and active than the inhabitants of India and Pakistan. Sulphur is not only good for brain but also has many other vital effects. Sulphur is the compound which is found in large number of homoeopathic medicines. Sulphur has special healing affect for skin diseases that is why people take bath in many springs containing sulphur as a treatment of skin diseases.

What’s good for adult’s health?
Buffalo milk seems to be a good choice for adults due less cholesterol. However, it is high in fat and difficult to digest. May be it’s a safe choice to go with cow milk than buffalo milk. You can consider consuming buffalo milk if you can find ways to burn the calories and don’t have digestion problem.

Summary
There is no major difference in the nutritional value of buffalo and cow milk. Buffalo’s milk is a good for healthy bones, dental health, cardiovascular health and weight gain. Cow’s milk is beneficial for healthy bones, dental health, and obesity reduction in children, protection for thyroid and protection of heart. So, the choice is yours.

That's the stupidity of your religion. Also don't kill plants as they too are living beings. Kill yourself with starvation

Cow is just an animal, so is elephant and many others you Hindus worship as gods. It's just that your god also tastes very good.
Keep on worshipping it, and let others appreciate your goddess by eating it.
What's wrong with that?

Of course others can do and are already doing it?

Is anyone stopping you from eating beef either in Pakistan or in any of the other country other than India? Certainly not.

When it comes to India, people fall into three categories

Category One (30%):

People who do not eat any meat (and eggs for most part)

Category Two (50%):

People who eat meat but not Beef

Category Three (20%):

People who eat meat including Beef

So as you would note that 80% of the people do not eat Beef hence it is banned.

Now you may say it is unjust for the 20% who wants to eat but people from Category I could also claim that it is unjust that others are eating meat.

At the end of of the day it is the opinion of the majority that counts in any democracy.

Why is Israel the most vegan country in the developed world? And which nation tops our list as the hands-down most vegetarian populace on the planet?
Find out below, as leading food critic Guy Dimond ranks the top ten countries where finding a meat-free meal is both easy and a pleasure (explaining what you can expect to find along the way)…

10. Israel
sabich-flickr-eatingeast.jpg

Sabich: a pitta stuffed full of tahini, chickpeas and colourful salady goodness (Photo: Flickr/eatingeast)

Judaism has long had a proscription to keep meat and dairy products apart, so many observant Jews have found life simpler by just going vegetarian. But in the country that was founded to provide a haven for the Jewish people, some people – many of them non-religious – have taken it one further.

Out of a population of eight million people, hundreds of thousands claim to be vegan, making Israel the world’s most vegan developed country. This is reflected in a thriving café and restaurant scene, particularly in Tel Aviv, where almost everywhere has good veggie or vegan choices on the menu. It’s not just falafel either – think of the east-west, experimental cooking created by Jerusalem-born chef and cookery writer Yotam Ottolenghi and you start to get a sense of what new-style Israeli cooking is about.

9. Jamaica
callaloo-Jenni-Konrad.jpg

Callaloo: an appealing reason to eat your greens (Photo: Flickr/Jenni Konrad)

Rastafarians are a small but highly visible minority in Jamaica, and their beliefs advise against the consumption of meat. Their diet – called ‘ital’ (from the world ‘vital’) – is also as natural as they can make it, which usually means organic and cooked without salt. Although some Rastas eat fish, many do not, and a considerable number are vegan.

The result is that Jamaica has a flourishing vegetarian café scene, and tasty veggie options are widely available – perhaps made using coconuts, plantains, cassava, peppers, rice, legumes and the leafy greens used to make the dish called callaloo. It’s only in Jamaica you find significant numbers of Rastafarians though; travel to other countries in the West Indies, such as Trinidad and Tobago, and you’ll find fish and meats are snuck into many dishes.

8. Singapore
rojak-Terence-Ong-.jpg

Rojak: an Indian-Singaporean dish of fritters, tofu, salad and spicy sauce (Photo:(Flickr/Terence Ong)

The city-state in South-East Asia has a population of less than six million, but it’s a city built on immigration. The result is an ethnically and culturally diverse place with one of the highest standards of living in the world – and lots of terrific restaurants, cafes and food stalls catering for the city’s obsession with eating out. Both the Tamil and some of the Chinese populations observe meat-free days for festivals, so this makes it easy to dip and dive between cuisines without getting bored. The south Indian restaurants and many of the hawker stall markets serves impressively complex and flavoursome veggie options, but look out too for vegetarian Chinese, Korean and Japanese cafés – there are more than 200 places across town that are strictly veg.

7. United States
blossoming-Lotus-Flickr-Yesica.jpg

The US is the world’s largest consumer of red meat, and there are places in the cattle country where you could be be bullwhipped for requesting the vegetarian option. But California doesn’t get called ‘the land of fruits and nuts’ just because it grows tree crops: San Francisco’s alternative culture is reflected in its food scene, which gives a group hug to Mexican, Korean and Chinese vegetarian food. Further north, Portland, Oregon is so renowned for its dairy-free lattes and ice creams that its vegan culture is a staple of the parody TV show Portlandia.

Manhattan is also a great place to eat meat-free, as long as your therapist and life-manager approve. Other cities of note for veggies include Austin, Texas; Los Angeles; Seattle; Boulder, Colorado; and Chicago, where the meatpacking district was graphically described in Upton Sinclair’s disturbing 1906 novel, The Jungle.

6. United Kingdom
Screen-Shot-2016-04-14-at-14.08.41.png

The dilemma of the UK is that although there is no strong tradition of vegetarianism, there have been a slowly growing number of ‘ethical’ vegetarians around, even before George Bernard Shaw started to popularise the trend in the early 20th century. Currently, when surveyed, around 12 per cent of the British population claim to be vegetarian – though as many ‘real’ vegetarians know, a fair number of these people are telling porky pies (‘lies’, for anyone not acquainted with Cockney rhyming slang), and occasionally succumb to the ways of the flesh.

However, that’s a still a lot of people rejecting the cultural norm, even in the least likely places, such as Glasgow. Scotland’s largest city has many more vegan cafés and restaurants than you’d expect, and some of them are excellent. British veggies tend to look to other cuisines for inspiration: Italian, Indian, Middle Eastern.

5. Turkey
baba-g-Stijn-Nieuwendijk.jpg

Ludicrously pretty baba ganoush with pomegranate (Photo: Flickr/Stijn Nieuwendijk)

The former centre of the Ottoman Empire and, before that, the Byzantine Empire has had millennia to develop a sophisticated courtly cuisine. Pair this with Anatolia having the richest biodiversity of tree and field crops anywhere on the planet, and you’ll soon be feasting on dishes flavoured with ground nuts, stews flavoured with a cornucopia of spices, breads baked in wood-fired ovens, and vegetables grilled over charcoal.

Turkish chefs can cook aubergines in a hundred different ways, and you’ll never be bored with them whether they’re stuffed, smoked, baked or grilled. Be warned though that in Turkey, restaurants tend to specialise by style of cooking, so a grilled meat or fish joint won’t be your smartest choice for good vegetarian food; instead seek out a ‘restoran’ or more casual ‘lokanta’ that serves a variety of dishes, listed on a printed menu.

4. Lebanon
tab-cyclonebill-Flickr.jpg

Tabbouleh: boom (Photo: Flickr/cyclonebill)

It started with the Fertile Crescent, where agriculture began; then the Phoenicians, who were great traders; next came the Ottomans, who were great cooks. After the collapse of the Ottoman Empire, Orthodox Christian communities flourished, as did their meat-free fasting days. For many Christians in the Middle East this means Wednesdays and Fridays, plus the six Lenten weeks prior to Easter.

Lebanese food is consequently rich in vibrant vegetarian dishes, and in Lebanese restaurants anywhere in the world, you’ll find marvellous meze that make you glad you’re forfeiting the flesh. There’s hummus and falafel of course, but also order the grilled aubergine dip, the fatayer (nut-filled pastries), fuul (mashed beans), and herby tabbouleh: a feast not just for the faithful.

3. Ethiopia
injera-Rod-Waddington.jpg

Injera bread and Ethiopian vegetarian delights (Photo: Flickr/Rod Waddington)

Nearly half of Ethiopia’s population are Ethiopian Orthodox Christian and observe meat-free days on Wednesdays, Fridays, and the whole of Lent (the six weeks leading up to Easter). As a result, a highly evolved vegetarian cuisine has developed over centuries, featuring many vegan dishes. Most meals are centred on injera bread, a crumpet-like spongy crêpe with a slightly sour, fermented taste.

This is often used like a huge plate, with portions of several spicy stews (called wats) served on top of it; strips of injera are torn off and used to scoop up the well-spiced wats, which contain legumes and vegetables, often with variations of berbere spice mix. Ethiopia’s smaller neighbour to the north, Eritrea, has a similar cuisine, and also has many enticing vegetarian dishes.

2. Italy
caponata-Stijn-Nieuwendijk.jpg

Caponata, anyone? Yeah, thought so (Photo: Flickr/Stijn Nieuwendijk)

There is no particular taboo attached to meat-eating in Italy, it’s just that Italians do meat-free food really, really well. It’s rare that you find a menu without an excellent vegetarian option, and with around 7-9 per cent of Italians claiming to be vegetarian, there is rarely a raised eyebrow when you say “Lo sono vegetarian” (“I’m vegetarian,” if you’re a chap), or “Lo sono vegetarian” (if you’re a woman). Of course there’s pizza and pasta, but there’s also risotto, lots of grilled or sautéed vegetable dishes, and most of the wonderful desserts are veggie too. As a general rule, you’ll fare slightly better in the south than the north; the south was historically poorer and so meat was rarer, which fuelled the creation of enticing meat-free dishes.

1. India
thali-Pritya-Books.jpg

A south Indian vegetarian thali tray – put it in your face (Photo: Flickr/Pritya Books)

India has one of the lowest consumptions, per capita, of meat in the world – around 32kg, which is around one-fifth of consumption in the US. This makes sense when you remember that more than one Indian religion proscribes meat-eating. Once you add up the observant Hindus, Jains and Buddhists, something between 20 to 40 per cent of a population of 1.3 billion are vegetarian (the exact number is impossible to calculate) – and a significant percentage of the vegetarians are also near- or wholly-vegan.

Restaurants and cafes invariably have veg and non-veg options clearly marked – and in India, eggs are considered non-veg. In south India in particular, entire populations in the states of Kerala and Tamil Nadu have been vegetarian for many hundreds, possibly even thousands, of years, which has given them plenty of time to develop nourishing, beautifully spiced and incredibly delicious dishes. If you’ve not tried proper south Indian food yet, it’s high-time you did.

May be you do not know Jains do not eat roots as eating them would mean they are killing the plant.

They even cover they mouth with a cloth to avoid killing insects and files inadvertently while they open their mouth to speak.

1001 reasons to justify Hinduism! you fellows are the same as Zakir Naik types in seeking justifications for own religion. Cow meat is consumed world over. It is consumed even under the nose of RSS, by own swayam sevaks. Sanghi is a sanghi...justifications after justifications for banning cow meat. Meanwhile, cow meat is consumed here every day and even the BJP candidate is promising people that he will make sure quality cow meat will be made available if he is elected:

1001 reasons to justify Hinduism! you fellows are the same as Zakir Naik types in seeking justifications for own religion. Cow meat is consumed world over. It is consumed even under the nose of RSS, by own swayam sevaks. Sanghi is a sanghi...justifications after justifications for banning cow meat. Meanwhile, cow meat is consumed here every day and even the BJP candidate is promising people that he will make sure quality cow meat will be made available if he is elected:

So what is your point?

Cow slaughter is a directive principle hence Implementation of the same is left to the discretion of each state.

So what is your point?
A secular country, with liberal values and supports English education (instead of Hindi/Hindutva) as well as gives the freedom to it's citizen to eat cow, pork, buffalo, rabbit, python, frog or even grass and does not interfere in ANYWAYS. A country that jails cow vigilante's and RSS, Islamist terrorists and promotes real secularism. A country whose constitution accepts the fact that our states are not unitary either culturally nor ethnically and allows unity in diversity. No Hindi language or cultural imposition, No revisioning of history to inject Hindu Swabhimaan as RSS does in states like Rajasthan. YES - A true democratic, secular country. That India should be. #BanRSS
