I’m not saying forced marriages are right and yes ppl have a say in who The you marry in Islam but Islam also states that marry your children once they turn mature. The point is ...majority of parents know when they’re children are ready for marriage. It’s different in cities but in villages a 16yr child is extremely mature and therefore the state cannot and should not stop them getting married. Otherwise you encourage zina/ adultery / sodomy in society.

I was 26 when I was married, i don’t think I was very mature...it still does not give the state the right to go against Quran and sunnah ...No argument against that. The govt should instead stop ppl forcefully marrying off their kids or under 16

I am not sure where this number comes from. If you have no problem waiting until the age of 16 then 18 should be fine as well.
