What's new

Country needs $82.5-bn investment in power to be developed one’

WTF is this idiot smoking.

By 2041 (20+ years from now) the aim is to have roughly the per capita generation capacity India has right now (340 GW+ in total)....and BD will be developed country by that?

@Skies @bluesky @Centaur @dy1022 @BDforever
Don't pay attention to Awami ministers, because exaggeration and sycophancy is there nature, and also all of them are drunk a.sshol.es .

When the tragedy of "Rana Plaza" happened in 2013 , former Awami home -minister Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir said something. Read it...

Alamgir was ridiculed on social media after he told the BBC that the building may have collapsed after opposition activists enforcing a general strike "pushed at the gate and columns of the building".

Read this news thoroughly, you will find this para somewhere . If this is the statement of awami home minister, then what else anyone can expect from them ?

So don't take BAL minister's words literally and seriously .

A developed country by 2041 only by building power capacity? Is it not necessary to build roads, streets, footpaths, garbage collection & anti-water logging systems, expansion of highways etc.? Go to Dhaka. All the foot paths are decorated with cables hanging from the poles to touch your neck. I wonder what our asset @UKBengali is smoking. This AL crony believes in whatever a AL Minister tries to make him believe.

Neither the uneducated minister nor the half-educated @UKBengali both are forwarding the same thesis by talking about power generation. But, is it the only criteria to become a developed country?

@bluesky the minister said that from his ministry’s perspective. No one said that infrastructure development is not required. Bangladesh is working on that as well.

Regarding cable of the distribution line, I guess you should know that entire distribution line of Dhaka city grid is going underground. Government has undertaken a 2.5 billion usd project for this.

https://www.dhakatribune.com/bangladesh/dhaka/2017/04/05/dhaka-power-lines-underground/

No doubt lots of corruption is happening under Awamileague government but lots of development is happening as well. Unless you are blind you should see it. Hope you will stop your paranoia. Achieving 12000 usd per capita gdp is not something not achievable.

Currently Hong Kong has per capita electricity consumption around 6,000 kWh per year. Hong Kong is at the same latitude as Dhaka and has similar climate and temperature.Hong Kong is highly developed entity per capita GDP 48,000 dollar. If we assume that, to just enter the developed country status(12735 dollar) we need half of what Hong Kong consume, then we need to increase our per capita electricity consumption at 3,000 kWh per year. In 2041, our population will be around 190 million. So electricity requirement will be 3000kWh X 190m=570 billion kWh per year or 570bkWh/(365x24)1000=65068 MW per hour. If we subtract 10% which will be meet by import, then we need to produce 65068x90/100=58,561 MW internally. So what the minister said is not absurd in anyway. But see the butthurt brigade spewing venom here without any fact checking as usual.

How Bangladesh is moving ahead of Pakistan causing heartburn to the Pakistanis and their breed in Bangladesh. Another Indian group is having buttheart as Bangladesh is moving ahead of India as well. So some retard came up with nonsense like all data are fake as otherwise they will have to agree with the reality Bangladesh has moved ahead of Pakistan and moving ahead of India.

@bluesky’s sudden change of tone is surprising. May be he is BNP supporter so doesn’t like to praise Awamileague for development work.

Yes, I remember what MOKHA Alamgir said about Rana Plaza. Note here one thing. MOKHA is highly educated and he came to the AL from his posting as Secretary of the government. If a guy like him can say this stupid thing, I wonder what other AL ministers will not say. Now-a-days, "a developed country by 2041" has become a catch phrase to the AL ministers.

European countries took more than five centuries to become developed after they fought the last crusade in the early 1270s. Instead of fighting, they changed their policy to expand manufacturing and foreign sea trades that centered mostly on the Italian sea ports. This was the period when they initiated to develop their countries as the commerce took the front runner role. It was in 1799 when the steam engine was invented in England and a new modern technology-based era was started by the Europeans.

So, it was more than five hundred years for the Europeans to get developed. Now, the people of BD, an LDC want to turn their country to a modern and developed country only in 25 years. What a joke when the sewing machines or the needles are not even produced in BD!! I have never heard that even a single steam engine was ever produced locally by the big talking people of BD, although the technology is freely available.

Are we still living in 18th century? Did that time European countries enjoyed rapid growth rate that many countries are achieving now? Due to advancement of communication technologies and internet seating anywhere in the world you can do things or even work for other country. All technologies are available at your finger tip. You can reverse engineer high tech product and get the know how which might have taken a long time for the originator country’s to produce. Japan did it in 1960s, China is doing now and I am quite sure Bangladesh will do the same. Our Pharmaceutical companies are producing generic version drugs at a very cheap rate which cost thousands of dollar in the West. Now we are going through another industrial revolution and that is big data, data science, machine learning tech, blockchain etc. Bangladesh is trying to catch up with other countries on it. Bangladesh has set a target of 2041 to enter into the developed country stage with certain per capita gdp. Why it is causing heartburn to you. Bangladesh May miss the target by 4-5 years but still it will achieve that landmark or according to you it is never possible like the way some BNP, Jamaat and Pakistani sympathizers try to say time to time as Pakistan won’t reach the target by that time frame.

Our Pharmaceutical companies are producing generic version drugs at a very cheap rate which cost thousands of dollar in the West.

It is because of TRIPS (Trade-Related Aspects of International Property Rights) by World Trade Organisation (WTO) that waivers BD for its LDC status to make so-called generics.

The benefit of the TRIPS waiver is that BD companies can make whatever drug they want by cutting costs largely. Bangladesh was categorized as LDC along with other 47 countries. As a result, Bangladesh got exemption from enforcing patentable subject matter of TRIPS Agreement until 2016.

In post-LDC context, it is an immediate concern for Bangladesh for availing this waivers under TRIPS agreement.

Now we are going through another industrial revolution and that is big data, data science, machine learning tech, blockchain etc. Bangladesh is trying to catch up with other countries on it.

BD is learning about these from other countries like India that gives trainings on big data etc.

However, BAL has roles in facilitating these new techs. Like funding Machine learning.

Very well said. But, have the talented BD people like you ever did anything like reverse engineering of anything since 1947. If not, then it is again just a big talking. Do first and the talk like other people do. So, I say, at least build the sewing machines our girls use to sew.

Thing is, whatever is possible for other nations may not be possible by the world's most talented people of BD. So, why are you claiming something hypothetical here? And why the hell are you talking about Pakistan? Is Pakistan our standard and should we follow it?

He @bluesky is not BNP, Jamaat and Pakistani sympathizer.

Plus, there is a good timing that when BAL came in power, these new techs started to emerge worldwide.

I am sure BNP will continue these.

And Pakistan has much more tech startup projects than BD.

They don't have such glorious history that we have ,don't have the glorious leader the best Bengali of thousands of years, the best leader the world has ever seen, godlike seer, Khilafatul muslimeen Maulana bongobondhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

So have faith on Awami League, BD will be the most developed nation ( with OM mujibaye Namaha, the great mantra ) in less than 25 years, if you don't believe in it, you are not doing ibadat, so by default doing kuffar.

I hope you remember those holy words of A.B Tajul Islam.

AL needs to get rid of Nahid, Muhith, Motia, Inu and some others.
There was one woman foreign minister from AL, Dipu Moni. I am happy not to see her any more. Every week, she used to make foreign travel as if a foreign minister's main duty is to stay in the foreign countries. She made millions in that way.

I'm not saying BD can do this......but South Korea did something similar......From 1960-85

I am optimistic about BD's future...and I can say IF BD in 2041 can reach China's quality of life in 2010, I'd be happy with the progress.
Now we are going through another industrial revolution and that is big data, data science, machine learning tech, blockchain etc. Bangladesh is trying to catch up with other countries on it.
They have barely started....catching up is a long way.
Bangladesh has set a target of 2041 to enter into the developed country stage with certain per capita gdp.
BD can(at the best case) reach 12000 GDP per capita by 2041......but 12000 in 2041 would be like 8000 if 2016. 12000 per capita maybe means developed today.....but it certainly won't be the case in 2041. And development isn't just about GDP per capita. Where are some good research facilities in BD? You can talk about Big data, ML and all.....but BD hasn't done anything....setting up target is a good thing...but what vexes me is their lack of efforts to met those targets......BD people are lazy and unmotivated to the core. All they do is boast about all the little stuff.
BD needs to focus on two things right now......and they are doing nothing about it sadly.
1. Bureaucratic reform....every f*cking decisions taken by those incompetent chamcha bureaucrats adds more to peoples suffering...thjey can't do anything properly and only care about filing their pocket.
2. Education needs improvement.....BD education was always bad....and now under that takla Nahid it isgetting even worse.

There was one woman foreign minister from AL, Dipu Moni. I am happy not to see her any more. Every week, she used to make foreign travel as if a foreign minister's main duty is to stay in the foreign countries. She made millions in that way.
All the 45+ govt employees need to be sent to forced retirement. Those fat chamchas are the biggest curse of BD.
