From the below news we can well understand how India is persuing its cold start doctrine. this is a serious issue and never properly addressed by any of our members in detail. we are most of the time busy in just 2 or 3 threads. EVEN IF SOME ONE BRINGS THIS ISSUE IT TURN OUT TO BE BATTLE OF WORDS BETWEEN INDIANS AND PAKISTANI THUS RESULT IN BLOCKING THE THREAD. from the news below we can see the number transport plane that Indian are equiring and i am wondering how PAF will counter them. so kindly dont flame this thread and be resonable.

India to buy six more C-17 airlifters from US

The Indian Air Force (IAF) will buy six more C 17 Globemaster III transport aircraft in addition to the 10 already being acquired.Air Chief Marshal P V Naik has told India Strategic that these aircraft would also be purchased through the Government-to-Government route under the US Government’s Foreign Military Sales (FMS) programme. The US Air Force (USAF), which is the nodal agency for the aircraft sale in this case, has already demonstrated the capability of the C 17, and met the IAF requirements. One C 17 was also brought to India in June, and was made to land and take off from a short field in Himachal as also from Leh in Jammu & Kashmir.

The Indian Air Force (IAF) has managed to contract six aircraft from the US at a price of $1 billion and it will be used by the Special Forces in the IAF. However, India’s refusal to sign the Communications Inter-Operability and Security Memorandum of Agreement (CISMOA) will mean that the aircraft will be delivered sans military grade secure equipment. In addition, the IAF is also contracting another ten heavy strategic airlifters for an estimated $3 billion from US and the airlifters will not have the military grade security equipment since the CISMOA is not signed by India.

As for the six C-130 J Super Hercules that India has already contracted for in 2007, the first of the C-130 J will be delivered by January 2011. The six C-130 J Super Hercules are being contracted through Lockheed Martin under the foreign military route (FMS) with the US.

Modernization of AN-32 Fleet of Indian Air Force

India and Ukraine have signed a contract on Modernisation of one hundred and five AN-32 fleet of Indian Air Force (IAF). This contract was signed on June 15, 2009 for Total Life Extension, Overhaul and Re-equipment of AN-32 fleet of Indian Air Force.

The up-to-date equipment which will be fitted on the aircraft during modernization include avionics and hydraulic systems, etc. The life of AN-32 aircraft will be increased by 15 years up to 40 years. First batch of aircraft has already been positioned in Ukraine. This information was given by Defence Minister Shri AK Antony in written reply to Shri Nand Kumar Sai in Rajya Sabha .PTI

yes why we need to counter this we can hit them if they come in pak aerospace with longrange sam system and of they get escorted by SU 30 our F 16 are not nuts to counter them what we need to buy more sophisticates SAM system and AA guns of different type from low level to medium range

Do you think indians are stupid that they will simply send their transport planes filled will comandos to become a treat for PAF. you guys should go and read cold start doctrine carefully and do some reserch. God forbid if anything happend like this it will be devestating

. .
so with most due respect sir what you think where these transport planes will be used what do pakistan do to counter them buy similar type of planes which i dont think pakistan need now what we need J 10 in number sam systems of different ranges which will stop india to invade in our aerspace remember we has tactic to defend our aerospace not to evade indian aerospace but if war goes for more days we need to evade and destroy indian airbases for which we need more sophisticated jet so with it if we would be able to hit indian bases we can counter indian transport

.
Sorry

What is cold start doctrine?

Care to elaborate

I prefer you google it. anyways in short cold start doctrine is to send comandos inside enemy territory and distroy the command post and kill key army personals. use airforce and missle system to neutrilise enemy airfelilds and airplanes at the end not to occupy any territory. this is all done in 96 hours. although its rejected by key Pakistani milatry personals like Cheif of General staff. and even FM warned india abt this doctrine. my point is we should give a thought abt it and dont take it so easily.

I don't think it will happen that way. Pak has few air bases and most of them within the range of Indian SSMs (I think I'm right). So we'll probably send ballistic missles to disable the fields to take out the planes before we send in fighters. Our bases are deeper/more numerous with better capacilty for refuelling even from long distances.

Indian already has a significant lift capablity, much more significant than what you suggest these new transport will do - so how does your filling 16 more aircraft with commando troops offer a more dangerous threat?

Could it be that the Indian is hedging his bets with regard to suppliers and siganlling a willingness to engage ina strategic shift while moderninzing his fleet?? possibly?

Cold Star Threat is being countered as we speak.Army is already working on it with along with Air Force. As of now India does not have capability to do anything like cold star as it was proved after Mumbai Attacks.Cold Start Doctrine is based on too many assumptions and my friend assumptions in war is no good thing. One things go out of control; it'll be a point of no return. The PAF And PA largest excercise in last 20 years occurred this year (High Mark and Azam-Nau were both towards this goal.)

.
look man india dont want war specially on his area.watever india is today, they have achieved with very difficult manner(corruption, politics).a lot have to be done in this direction.this is just diplomacy,or ur self created threat.also one thing india will not compromise on it's integrity

i AGREE WITH YOU INDIA DOES HVE SIGNIFICANT CAPABILITY BUT IF YOU GO IN DETAIL YOU WILL FIND THAT 16 GLOBMASTER AND ABT 18 C130 J WILL DOUBBLE THEIR ABILITY. C130 AND C17 GLOBMASTER ARE SPECIALLY DESIGN TO DROP PERATROOPERS IN ENEMY TERRITORY THEY CAN NOT ONLY CARRY TROOPS BUT HEAVY MACHINERY TOO. AND DONT FORGET THAT INDIA IS ALSO THINKING TO BUY 200 APACHEE AND HEAVY LIFT HEALICOPTERS. IT ABT THE DESIRE AND USE OF THESE MACHINES FOR WAT CAN IT BE USED FOR. I HOPE YOU GET MY POINT.

.
@shanixee :Most of the aircraft me buy is to replace the old Russian transport aircraft..I dont think we will have a significant improvement in lift capacity..
