Cost of living comparison - Pakistan vs rest of the world (don't get triggered yet)

What do you think the weekly cost of food for a family of 4 is in Canada?
As I said earlier, $250 per week for a family of 4. This is applicable to GTA. Minimum wage in province of Ontario is $15 per hour. That amounts to 16.67 hours of work for a weekly grocery bill in case of a family. Canadians don't find food affordability to be an issue. It is the housing affordability in urban areas like GTA that is a problem.

.
Min. grocery bill per person is $375/month (including some splurges). Rent is around $1500 with all utilities for a small apartment/basement.
Min. wage is around $1900/month.

If you have kids, govt. gives you around $550/month per kid.

GTA/Ontario is fked. I don't think the cost of living there is sustainable in the long term, especially due to the housing crisis.

think that's the shocking reality people don't always know. Although why is labour so cheap in KPK? In AJK we have to pay 1500 a day for mazdoor. Maybe that's because we don't have many people happy to work. A lot of our labourers, especially skilled tend to be from other provinces

Well you said it. AJK lack manpower which is provided by people from KP in majority cases. They live there, work there, spend there and send remaining back to their families. Hence it's expensive in AJK. Here in KP they work 8 am till 3 pm and take 700 to their homes or some prefer to overtime from 3 to 6 or 7 (which is btw charged double).

Another reason of labor being cheap in KP is abundance. The thousands years old principle of supply and demand.

Another BIG problem - average Pakistani family size is 6.5

Yes. But here in KP. Usually family have atleast 2 earners and remaining dependents. Boys tend to seek a job in early stages of their life depending on opportunities ( either freelancing, or job in workshops, hotels, shop markets, army, Airforce etc). My family have 6 bread earners and 16 dependents (including kids of these 6 individuals).

now come to paksitan we have minimum wage is 15000pkr per month but i have seen 10000 and 12000 workers too . we have child labor work for free as our sich USTAD -SHAGIRD culture . thousands of kids work for free or for food and some pocket money in workshops technical places etc . we have sick maid culture where thousands of maids work for 5000 to 10000pkr monthly . some also use child maids just for food and little money . we even have slave labor culture in internal parts of country .

so here living is like living in jungle you have to be strong to survive .

minimum average income in pakistan is 20000 and its real really hard to survive .

look at electrical bill you use or not you have to pay 2000 as taxes and other BS .

That is too pessimistic. Many high income workers now have the option of working remotely. This will help stem the soaring housing market in the long term. So long as the American economy keeps humming along, Canada and Ontario will be alright

Working remotely while not living in GTA? That defeats the purpose of this survey and shows how unsustainable actually living in GTA is.

If you are single then you can divide rent by sharing accommodation. That brings your rent down significantly.
If you are married then both can work and earn.

Also, this is just the min. wage. You should not be earning min. wage for your entire life.

TBH i did not liked it :P i am not against women jobs . but after kids a good family should be look like a man work . female control home . kids go school . and after all expenses family must save 30-40% of income to invest or future plans .

i cant damn live a single day where i work and spend and having no savings .

The days when 1 person could support an entire family with savings are over (for most).

The bit about highly paid individuals working remotely is not meant for the survey. I've seen quite a few people with household income of $250k+ move out even if they can afford GTA comfortably. They don't move because they are squeezed out. It was just to make the point that housing affordability may improve in future for people making lesser wage.

when i figure out my kid having an hearing issue and it will be solved with major surgery i thought i must move to some western country . but as i know my qualifications and i know what i will do there i decide not to do so . i talked to many friends even some forum members about life in west i stopped it .economically GOD is blessed on me . i have free new car every 4 years with free unlimited fuel . having home allowance which i pay 75% rent and save 25% . having free laptop every four years. cell phone allowance every 2 years . mobile 6000 minutes free and 3gb internet . air tickets and hotels free .2 salaries bonus (since covid 1 salary bonus yearly) and then my income which i save almost 60% of it after living a good life . sooner i may save 100% as my new shops which i invested will start giving me rents . so i think west USA / CAN will not give me all this . i cancel my plan to move and have surgery of my kid in pakistan and we living same old happy life . i may send my kid for study in west then it will be his choice he want to work there or want to be back . what you say then ? and @Wood will canada give this ?

That's just wishful thinking.

Canada will not give you anything expect for free health care and survival benefits

But if you employed in the right sector and don't waste your time on PDF, then you can surely lead a comfortable life here. Key for successful immigrants is to have a transferrable skill - preferably in engineering. It is now common for engineering immigrants in GTA to make $150K + benefits in full time positions. Contractors will make considerably more with no benefits.
