Featured CoronaVirus in Pakistan - Updates & Discussion

I was going to defend myself but Islam tells us that whenever someone abuses you and you show patience then the angels will respond on my behalf.

Please accept the response from angels.

If Allah holds you accountable on day of judgement for inciting me to commit suicide, i will only want for you to burn in hellfire for eternity.

Shukar Alhamdulillah for hell and heaven. If there was no hell, people like you would make lives of everyone hell without any justice.

I hope you don't take this as a joke. You, rott and everyone who cheered for making me commit suicide, when InshaAllah, Allah will give me justice that this forum has failed to, expect me to be vicious and unforgiving. Forgiving is haram for me for people who insult and take away the honor of a Muslim like you have done. Only hellfire for you!

I have read your posts in this thread. What I can see is your intention is to score political points and name calling instead of actual criticism, discussion or contribution on merit. Nice try using the religion card may be you should try applying this argument on your previous posts, before lecturing others.
No offence intended, but please dont use religion for the sake of argument.

In my opinion these numbers are just superficial, far from the actual numbers. This is not the case only with Pakistan but also India and other countries. The actual numbers are exponentially higher all around the world.
Even with so much rapid testing and containment in Germany, probably the best response to covid in Europe. They were only able to detect and contain around 10% of actual cases.

This finding is consistent with the random antibody screening sample they ran last month in April which showed around 20% and an another study showed 14% had antibodies against covid. Their mortality rate was around 0.37% in one of the most hard hit counties.

He is a pseudo Muslim. Not even a real one. According to him Islam applies on his selected situation, but not in other situations.

Breaking: 'No disease-free area': Report Summary to Punjab CM estimates 670,800 cases in Lahore city alone

An alarming summary presented by the Punjab Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department to Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar almost two weeks ago had revealed that "no workplace and residential area of any town is disease-free" in the provincial capital, and that total virus cases in the city are estimated at around 0.7 million, it emerged on Monday.

A screenshot of one of the pages of the said report.
Advising the chief minister to immediately enforce a complete lockdown for "at least four weeks", the summary, a copy of which is available with Dawn.com, said a smart lockdown would not work since all areas of the city had been impacted by the disease, adding that asymptomatic cases became the "main source of infection and local transmission" in the metropolis.

"Any subsequent decision of lifting, relaxing or doing away with lockdown measures should be taken after reviewing the results of smart sampling conducted with regular intervals till the final tapering down of the virus," it had recommended.

The summary — signed by Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department Secretary Muhammad Usman and dated May 15 — listed the results of a "smart sampling project" to "detect and determine the spread of Covid-19 and to structure and guide [the department's] response towards its containment".

Under the exercise, randomised targeted sampling (RTS) and smart sampling (SS) were carried out; the former was to determine the prevalence of the disease in occupational sectors that remained functional during the lockdown, while the latter was to understand community spread.

After these exercises, the report said, it could be estimated that Lahore, which has a population of over 11 million, has around 670,800 coronavirus cases. But as of June 1, the entire Punjab province has officially reported just 26,240 infections and 497 fatalities.

Analysing the data from various hotspots including workplaces and residential areas, the summary noted "a worrisome picture of Covid-19 prevalence" in communities, with 5.18pc infection rate for RTS and 6.01pc for SS.

"This means that no workplace and residential area of any town is disease-free and, as such, Lahore exhibits an alarmingly similar transmission pattern."

Elaborating on the findings for the testing carried out in the provincial capital, the summary stated that six per cent of all those who were tested turned out positive for Covid-19, while some towns showed a positivity rate as high as 14.7pc.

"These cases being asymptomatic could not be reported to health facilities, but became the main source of infection and local transmission," the report said.

"The town wise breakdown shows a value of more than three per cent for all towns — except Wagha Town — and ranges between 2.11pc and 9.33pc."

The summary added that people over 50 years of age are the ones most affected by the respiratory illness, as is reflected in international literature and research.

It concluded that any decisions regarding lifting or enforcing lockdown measures can't and shouldn't be taken in isolation. "It should be necessarily articulated through larger consensus and based on evidence gathered through smart sampling and testing."

The sampling exercise was carried out with the technical assistance of a working group, consisting of a panel of experts, that was constituted on the directives of the provincial cabinet to provide an "international perspective and input to determine Covid-19 prevalence", according to the report.

48-hour quarantine policy for air travelers abolished

ISLAMABAD: The federal government changed the standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the international air travellers to the country from Wednesday in view of a lack of capacity and an alarming surge in the number of coronavirus cases in the country.

From now on, the government has abolished the 48-hour quarantine condition for the returning stranded Pakistanis. Instead, they would be sent to their homes after a medical check-up and test at the airports, aviation sources said.

The sources said that the government changed the SOPs simultaneously with easing the lockdown and coronavirus-induced travel restrictions in the country. They added that the decision was taken because the capacity at the quarantine centres had been contracting owing to increasing number of Covid-19 cases.

According to the new SOPs, all passengers would undergo a complete medical check-up at the airports, while the staff deputed by the National Institute of Health (NIH) and provincial health departments at the airports will test the travellers for coronavirus.

After the medical check-up and the coronavirus test, the passengers will be allowed to go their homes, instead of the quarantine centre, if they do not show any symptoms of Covid-19. The decision about suspected coronavirus patients had been left on the discretion of doctors.

Under the new policy, all the passengers will be checked at the health counters of the airports. The record will carry the names and addresses of suspected coronavirus travellers and will be quarantined at home upon not showing any symptoms.

On Wednesday, the NIH team conducted medical check-ups and coronavirus tests of all the passengers including 281 travellers coming from the US and 253 travellers coming from Saudi Arabia in a special PIA flight at the Islamabad airport, after which all the travellers were permitted to go to their homes.

Covid-19 and our insensitive mentality

Sindh extends lockdown till June 30, meanwhile, Balochistan has extended the lockdown till June 16.

These unprecedented times comprising months of lockdown have given the world the required energy and space to introspect — and redress.

Today, all of us want something.

The haut monde of today is worried about its health and safety and is not hesitating in adopting all safety practices prescribed by authorities. They want the crisis to end soon so that their economic prosperity can take the ascending path once again, only if their fate leads them out of the plight alive.

The middle class has its own challenges. The collapse of education, health and other sectors keeps them awake at night as most members of this estate belong to the working class. Doctors and paramedics are surely worried about their health and of their families, but this profession is passion for some and means of breadwinning for others. Parents are apprehensive about their children’s education as that is the only true endowment their future generations will inherit to make their own living. The unemployed are afraid of facing a long-lasting recession as closure of major businesses has snatched jobs from those already employed. All have some savings which they are currently spending to keep their bodies and souls together, but the exhaustion of these funds is what does not let them rest.

The lower orders are dying; if not by means of the coronavirus then by hunger. With decreased demand of commodities and services, the members of this class await opportunities that could feed their stomachs. This search for wage puts them at an extremely vulnerable position as they would not care about self-protection and safety if offered a meal in exchange. And those who are unsuccessful in earning a sum are again in peril, not by the virus but by tearful eyes of their children and empty vessels in their kitchens. They tend to ease their anguish by embracing death before death seizes them.

The aforementioned are some harsh realities of the ongoing pandemic, but some people have other stories to tell and other things to yearn for. Freedom is what they desire. Freedom as a cure of depression is a necessary treatment, but those who wish it as a source of enjoyment in these times is what reminds me of JK Rowling’s quote, “It is our choices, that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities.”

Such people want to shop the latest lawn designer dresses because “Eid won’t be Eid without new clothes”. They want to expose their children to the potential risk by taking them to fully packed markets because they “cannot see corona” but are reluctant in sending them to schools because that is where the danger lies. They cannot give up their social life and distant relatives for a few months because “these are not our values”. They will neither wear masks nor practise social distancing because “corona is nothing but a propaganda to fund doctors and foreign agents”. This mindset formulates another faction — the ‘heedless’ class.

Its members may belong to any of the three estates but are united in their approach to life and self-centredness. Leaving the jobs originally assigned to them to be finished by God is their aim and taking up the whole armour of God is their hobby.

In crises like this, when people should be worried about the future, these care-free individuals enjoy living in the moment when the world does not need it. A situation wherein it is actually required for us to act responsibly, these individuals want their freedom. When businesses are suffering losses, doctors are losing their lives, labourers are committing suicide because they are unable to feed their families, these individuals are busy enjoying by wandering in markets and socialising.

Just when it was actually the time to fill the gap of discrimination by burying all differences and rising from the ashes, these individuals are worsening the situation. Yes, they are the real the agents. After all, all viruses need vectors.

Besides others, the newly appointed District Health Officer (DHO), Peshawar, Dr Azmat also tested positive for Covid.

Dr Azmat had just taken charge of his office and didn’t feel well and went to the Police Services Hospital on Tuesday. The doctors took his swab and Dr Azmat straight went to his office and continued his official work.

He was conveyed the result of the test on Wednesday. It worried those, mostly doctors, who had met him in his office on Tuesday. They got worried when they came to know about is illness.

“Just imagine, this is the level of our attitude towards this pandemic when a team leader like a DHO doesn’t follow the protocols. After giving swab, the suspect is supposed to isolate himself till the result is released,” said an official of the office of director general health services.

Pleading anonymity, he said the DHO had a cannula to his arm attending people in his office after visiting the Police and Services Hospital. “Like me, more than 100 people met him in his office on Tuesday. I was shocked when I saw him with a cannula and handling people. Now we all are in trouble along with our family members,” said the official.

When reached for comments , Dr Azmat confirmed that he had tested positive. He argued he had come to office after giving swab in the hospital as the doctors suspected him of having other problem instead of coronavirus.

“I didn’t have any symptoms of coronavirus. When the doctors in the Police Services Hospital told me they don’t believe it could be a corona, then I came to office to do some important work. I didn’t meet people and followed all the SOPs,” said Dr Azmat.

He said he was feeling well and had isolated himself. Of 10 people died of coronavirus on Wednesday, six of them belonged to Peshawar. Peshawar with 274 deaths has suffered more human losses than any other city in the country.
