Decent Work Country Profile - Bangladesh
Over the last two decades Bangladesh has been struggling hard to establish democracy and has undergone tremendous economic, social and political changes that have shaped the landscape for decent work in Bangladesh.
The country has experienced a political transition to a more democratic system along with fundamental labour market reforms, including the adoption of Bangladesh Labour Law of 2006 which has consolidated all the earlier labour laws in the country.
There has been steady progress in raising per capita income and significant achievement in poverty alleviation. However, poverty rates are still high in many parts of the country, and inequalities remain. Employment is mainly distributed among the agricultural and services sectors although its share in manufacturing has increased. Labour productivity has moderately increased over the last decade, but still lags behind other South Asian economies.
With regard to education, significant progress has been achieved in reducing the percentage of children not attending school, while some advancement in adult literacy has also been observed. Bangladesh recognizes these problems and has adopted policy strategies in the Sixth Five Year Plan, (2011–2015), which focus on pursuing economic growth, alongside labour intensive investment, improving competitiveness, as well as poverty reduction measures. However, robust efforts should accompany these policy strategies in order to make them effective by including decent work indicators into the monitoring and evaluation systems, and national plans of action.

Oh wow... once upon a time... the agriculture sector used to be the dominant one in bangladesh's economy....

. .
What percentage of it is garment manufacturing and meat processing?

What percentage of it is garment manufacturing and meat processing?

Meat processing should be the subsector agri and farm.
Agri and foresty - 11.18
Fisheries and Livestock - 3.61.
_________________________
Total in Agri and Farm - 14.79%

Not sure about garments which is suppose to be the subsector of manufacturing.

Oh wow... once upon a time... the agriculture sector used to be the dominant one in bangladesh's economy....

It still holds the biggest labor force among all the sectors.
The last time it was counted in 2011 like
Agri -40%
Service - 30%
Industry - 30%

I hope industry and Agri should split 35/35 by now being very very optimistic. As long as majority of our population employed in agri sector, we will be recognized as agrarian society.

There is no way an agricultural major society will be able to become a developed country in a capitalist world... the model is presented by yourself

once upon a time there was a rapper called tupac who talked about "changes".
PREACH!!!

What other industrial/manufacturing products bangladesh produce in significant numbers?
Cement, pharmaceuticals and chemicals... dyes... ship building... assembling vehicles etc.
Does leather products count?

Bangladesh’s Top 10 Exports
APRIL 1, 2017 BY DANIEL WORKMAN

Bangladesh shipped US$38.6 billion worth of goods around the globe in 2016, up by 148.1% since 2009 when the Great Recession kicked in and up by 4.5% from 2015 to 2016.
Bangladesh’s top 10 exports are highly concentrated accounting for 96.9% of the overall value of its global shipments.

Based on statistics from the International Monetary Fund’s World Economic Outlook Database, Bangladesh’s total Gross Domestic Product amounted to $686.8 billion as of April 2017. Therefore, exports represent about 5.6% of total Bangladeshi economic output.

Given Bangladesh’s population of 156.2 million people, its total $38.6 billion in 2016 exports translates to roughly $250 for every resident in that country.

Bangladesh’s unemployment rate was an estimated 4.9% in 2016 same as during 2016, according to the Central Intelligence Agency’s World Factbook.
Bangladesh’s Top 10 Exports
The following export product groups represent the highest dollar value in Bangladeshi global shipments during 2016. Also shown is the percentage share each export category represents in terms of overall exports from Bangladesh.
  1. Knit or crochet clothing, accessories: US$16.8 billion (43.4% of total exports)
  2. Clothing, accessories (not knit or crochet): $16.7 billion (43.2%)
  3. Miscellaneous textiles, worn clothing: $977.7 million (2.5%)
  4. Footwear: $901.4 million (2.3%)
  5. Paper yarn, woven fabric: $660.9 million (1.7%)
  6. Fish: $612.5 million (1.6%)
  7. Headgear: $278.9 million (0.7%)
  8. Leather/animal gut articles: $255.8 million (0.7%)
  9. Raw hides, skins not furskins, leather: $208.5 million (0.5%)
  10. Vehicles : $86.1 million (0.2%)
According to Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association, or BGMEA — the garment factory owners’ industry group. Garment exports accounted for $24 billion last year, 80 percent of Bangladesh’s total exports. And many of the country’s elected officials have a stake in those exports, employing over four million workers. Historically, women, who make up 80 percent of garment workers.

Leather and animal gut articles were the fastest-growing among the top 10 export categories, up by 1,205% for the 7-year period starting in 2009 and led by suitcases, handbags and camera cases.
In second place for improving export sales was headgear which was appreciated 599.2%.

Footwear posted the third-fastest gain in value up by 364.5%.

Vehicles was the sole declining category among the top 10 Bangladeshi exports, down by -40.4% from 2009 to 2016.

Padma bridge is supposed to re-vitalize the existing and under-construction SEZ's around Mongla and of course Mongla port itself as an alternative to Chittagong port.

I posted some pictures in another thread,

https://defence.pk/pdf/threads/thre...s-at-ctg-port-soon.491961/page-2#post-9430134

that shows Mongla port authority fully ready with container-lifts and high capacity forklifts. Only thing they don't have yet is container cranes which might have been ordered already.

A side benefit of having a strong port is having associated economic industrial zone investments around the port by private sector investors. Here's one of them by local conglomerate Powerpac (area of 205 acres),

The port boasts several cement mills as well as LPG jetties
