I just read across the wires that Pakistan is now a full member of CERN. While it seems that all we read about Pakistan is negative. Which is contrary to the country I visited in an official capacity several times. I have to say - To have one the best experiences in mingling with warm, welcoming people, offering the best hospitality extended to foreign guests, please visit Pakistan.

:pakistan:

We should celebrate Pakistan's entry into CERN as a full member. One that will have positive implications to their economy .

I believe and please feel free to correct me, that an Associate member is a full member. They have 'Observer' members and Associate members.
The observer system was abolished. The new system everyone has to pay an amount (which is negotiable).
India,Russia,Japan etc, were observer states, but not anymore.

We were supposed to apply, but the proposal did not clear the PMO. Perhaps they feel it is better to invest and build stuff here.

anyway grats to Pakistan, I somehow feel this is old news? - Thread from 20th june Pakistan becomes first associate member of CERN from Asia

I guess this is the formal induction.

Not to rain on the parade, but CERN is desperate for money.
You pay, you're in.
Its also where the internet the smashing of atoms cosmic theories electron time travel... comes from Pakistan should pursue avenues in scientific fields it creates inspiration we want our names on plaques saying this Pakistani scientist attests to the world and to his country that he was innovating new techniques and ideas for the greater good of the world.

I am not saying that CERN membership is a bad thing -- it's always good to have Pakistani scientists have access to world class facilities.

I was simply suggesting that CERN is not some sort of exclusive, elite club.
