I think the dilemma would be solved if you try to clarify what you mean by 'extremism'. I'm guessing that you are using that term to describe terrorists, such as the ones who attacked Charlie Hebdo today, or people of AQ, TTP etc.

But literally, "extremism" just means being uncompromising in a belief, holding extreme views, and possibly (but not necessarily) also resorting to violence to bring that about.
The reason I use the word 'extremist' is because it is widely understood and basically established to be, well, a radical and violent person.
But, as per your request, I will clarify.

An extremist/Islamist/Jihadist or whatever you wish to call them is someone who:

a) Believes in an exaggerated, usually false and inciting narrative
b) Only looks at the parts of Islam he/she interprets to be violent and ignores the part that is peaceful.
c) Uses religion as a tool to accomplish political goals and/or justify violence

ere's the difficult point to ponder - if extremists are merely people who believe very firmly and uncompromisingly in something, do moderates who believe the same ideology have a right to criticize them for holding on to the same beliefs as themselves, but to a stronger extent? The difference between moderates and extremists is only in how strongly each believes the ideology, and how far they are willing to go to bring it into fruition.
Sorry, but this is incorrect. Going by literal definition, yes, that would be true - but, like I said before, 'extremist' isn't exactly the best way to define it.

If we were to go by your definition, the 'extremists' would also be going really far to bring justice, education, knowledge, racial equality, unity and tolerance - but they don't. All those are parts of Islam and are emphasized a lot more than any 'Jihad' or, to be accurate, Qital (because spreading justice, knowledge etc is also a struggle and Jihad - Jihad is not just war or fighting, it is struggle; a very broad definition)

This can be summarized in one sentence : 'If they were so good and devout Muslims, they'd be building mosques instead of bombing them.'

I do not believe 'the same ideology'. I believe in Islam, not indoctrinated Mullah-Islam that is used to brainwash terrorist recruits.
Islam, which means following all the teachings, including tolerance, knowledge and all those other values I mentioned (there are more). Fighting or Jihad are not the only values of Islam and by far not the most important ones - also, they have very strict restrictions and conditions to apply.

So is extremism the problem, or the belief itself?
Islam is not the problem, if that's what you're asking.
Haven't muslims (in recent times) advocated violence for far lesser offences? (Salman Rushdie, Jyllands-posten controversy etc?)
I haven't. No one from my family has. None of my friends have. Many Muslims have, yes, in direct contradiction to Islam. So what they did and advocated is in no way representative of the religion itself - rather, it is in opposition of the religion. The ones doing the violence were mostly the uneducated political-mullah crowd and yes, admittedly, they have more than a little Influence. (i.e a lot - way too much than is healthy)
The cartoons published by Charlie Hebdo were far cruder and arguably more offensive than Salman Rushdie's writings. Yet, a very large number of muslims (not just terrorists) fully supported the fatwa against him.
Extremists doesn't just mean terrorists. All of those who supported the fatwa are mistaken and extremists as per my definition.
So why feel angry at a terrorist attack, when even "moderates" support the same thing for lesser "offences", just because the former makes a big splash on TV, and shocking images are visible for all to see?
The people who support the same thing for lesser offences are in no way moderates. And, by opposing clear commands from the Prophet and the Quran, their definition as Muslims is really 'weak', to say the least (I won't go as far as to call them non-Muslims, because not only is that trying to shift the blame, it is also takfir (excommunication), which is forbidden in Islam)
Didn't these terrorists do precisely what Khomeini advocated should be done to Rushdie, an opinion which many muslims still support?
Khomeini disobeyed God and his Prophet by issuing that fatwa and according to Islamic Law, he should be tried for trying to cause injustice, disrespecting the Qur'an, spreading corruption in the land and takfir.

A good article, if you're confused about Islam's stance on blasphemy, is here:
Blasphemy in the Light of the Qur'an
Also, I discussed this in detail on this forum, in this thread: Is blasphemy a pardonable offense?
You might want to have a look there.

Have a good day.

You might be checking Pakistan trends. They are trending kaptaankidholak. Facepalm.

@TankMan how would you describe someone who believes in every word of the quran and the sunnah?

So they are trending kill all muslims for 12 casualties. What should I trend when hundreds of kids are killed by Israeli troops in Gaza and the best part is that many of those Israeli soldiers are not even native of that land and migrated their to defend their so called promised home and the same Europeans and Indians were openly cheering for that massacre.
Not to mention the Norwegian terrorist Andres Breivik who killed 77 and injured 319.
No hastags were done against him or christianity or Atheism. Because he was white european and not a muslim.
He wasn't even given death sentence and will be free after a few years.
We condemn terrorism.but condemn terrorism by all.

@TankMan how would you describe someone who believes in every word of the quran and the sunnah?
A Muslim. If he practices it, then a good Muslim. One that believes it, takes into account the context and the concept of precedence (i.e a sunnah/hadith can not contradict the Quran). Also, provided that it is the sahih hadith + sahih sunnah he believes in and not just something he heard a random guy with a beard say.

It is virtually impossible to believe in every single word about sunnah, at best we can follow the Sahih Hadith, and again it's very difficult to find and memorize every single word in Sahih Hadiths (can be done though, if you devote your whole life to it).

I don't even care about Andrew Breivik. My point is double standards of West about different issues. During Gaza it was clear that Israel was deliberately committing human rights violations. I don't see any state from Europe to India doing anything practical to stop that. Yeah a lot of individuals did protest but what states or the governments who care so much abut human rights.

And why is it so hard for some western idiots that they can condemn Islamic extremism or terrorists without mocking Islamic religious figures. Is it so hard for them to criticize extremism without attacking Muslim prophet(SAW) at the same time.

Nowhere near the same extent as freedom of religion exists in the west.
You are confusing religious freedom with cultural freedom.
There is no restriction on any religion in Pakistan. But wearing a bikini is not religion its culture. So that is not allowed. In bible or Gita it is not asked for christian or hindu women to wear bikini and show iff half their butt in public.
So there you go. Try to diffrentiate between religion and plain culture.

@TankMan how would you describe someone who believes in every word of the quran and the sunnah?
Well, if he does then he wouldnt be violent....Quran asks us to humble ourselves ...violent person is never humble....Mullahs who want earthly pleasures or want followers and will say anything to get more...are far from humble!

You are 1.2 billion how can you let a minority dumbshits hijack you religion.
Stand up,speak up and fight these savages and restore the image if Islam which spreads tolerance, compassion and humility.
Failure to do so will be fatal for all muslims.
No one hijacked it...there are wolf in sheep clothing operating everywhere!

2ndly, Many who are educated know that the image of Islam is not at stake...when emotional people here this they go violent instead :tsk: most of the working class isnt someone made famous by some reporters...why choose that Anjem Choudry guy and bring him on tv for his opinion when he doesnt have even the basic degree in Islam? Hence how can they come on tv to condemn it or do something about it when no one gives them a chance?

You might be checking Pakistan trends. They are trending kaptaankidholak. Facepalm.
I didnt understand that one...wth is dholak? shadi?

@waz @Jungibaaz @T-Faz please ban this extremist , just look at his posts how's he being tolerated is beyond me
Why only him what about Solomon whose whole history on PDF is about opening anti Muslim posts...and 500 whose ONLY sources are Israeli news agencies...No I mean literally ONLY anything published by Israel in Israel!

A good tweet by a non-Muslim, decent human being:

But it's still our responsibility to defend our religion, both from non-Muslim haters and extremists from within. To defend it by repelling evil with that which is good, as per the Quran, is our obligation.

''The good deed and the evil deed cannot be equal. Repel (the evil) with one which is better (i.e. Allah ordered the faithful believers to be patient at the time of anger, and to excuse those who treat them badly), then verily! he, between whom and you there was enmity, (will become) as though he was a close friend'' - [Quran 41:34]

What the **** has all your rant got to do with the issue/thread at hand? Stop derailing and shitting over each and every thread, mullah!

It is the failure of the US supported dictatorships in Middle East that did develop their countries and created viable economy and democracy where different political ideologies could be discussed rationally. Shah of Iran, Persian Gulf states, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and other states ruled by American puppets. Some North African socialist states were all French puppets with for-life presidents. Americans, French and Russia supported their puppets and never put pressure to democratize their states to create a democratic system it is their failure too.

Nothing to laugh about. What the **** is there to laugh about here?

@Oscar @Horus @T-Faz, kindly show the door to any and all wannabe mullah's and hinduvata trolls effing up this thread.

:bounce::enjoy::D:rofl::rofl::rofl::angel:

Imagine what happens if we trend

Kill jews or kill hindus or kill everybody,

There you go, wonderful work mullahs and terrorists, wonderful. Hatred for Muslims is already at peak levels, and now you go ahead and kill twelve more people to show the world that Islamophobia is justified/true (it isn't - it isn't supposed to be, at least)
[/SPOILER]

See the difference between Islam and murderous idiocy?

:tsk:

Islamophobia is never justified regardless of who attacked this group.

Look at these raving murderous lunatics that want to kill ALL Muslims that includes you, your mom and dad, etc... all of whom had no knowledge of what took place.

This isn't something new and has been ongoing for centuries now. Whether we go back to events like the occupation of Jerusalem during the Crusades during which they murdered all Muslims and Jewish civilians in the city to the world's worst case of genocide through their systematic slaughter of Native Americans after occupying their homeland to modern history particularly incidents that took place during WWII which includes their current waging of war whether its in Latin America, the Middle East or Africa continually interfering with the ability of these societies to rebuild because it isn't to their liking.

A history of colonialism and policies of de-industrialization have starved tens of millions to death around the world and why countries like China, Pakistan, India, etc... are so poor now when, for 95% of our own civilizations history since the neolithic, we were well beyond them in terms of technology, social welfare, etc...

Through all that you don't see us calling for their genocide.

Shows you the mindset of Europeans and Americans. Very "peaceful" indeed.

Thank you, I was meaning to do that but decided against it for some reason; probably got too caught up in other stuff and just posted a 'don't feed the trolls' poster instead.
I thought so called you believed in free speech and discussion of issues. But self proclaimed "Liberal Terrorist" title suits you well.
Admittedly, his response was a little too harsh - but your post was, indeed, off topic and 'gol mol', as I explained in my reply to you in post # 11.
