We need a naval base in Vietnam to station our destroyer and SSBN. Who agrees ?
Suicidal move. Khopdi saab.

Chinese move to claim entire SCS has beautifully worked in India, USA and Japan's favor.

No point ruining it. Let the job of stationing be left to USA or maybe even Japan.

Currently we must consolidate our grip in Indian Ocean.

This is the reason why i said before few days back that IN plan for 5 ACC may be made on the basis of deploying a ACC based CBG preferably of IAC1 class in the regional patrolling of Mauritius, Seychelles, Madagascar to Chabhar port.

Looking at development and possible deployment with listening posts, radars, satellite aid and military pacts, such a move is very much possible in the next 10-15 years.

It comes with bonus of protecting the Economic interests of our investments as well as providing military coverage to Mauritius, Seychelles etc..

These days Japanese media is showing overly positive views of India. Its all part of preparations i guess.

You follow Japanese media? But western news has not changed. Only negetive, none or very little positive stuff that we do.

Navy already has a listening station in Oman, but operating a Naval Base is big,Govt. should also develop Andaman as Big naval and Military base and allow USN to park their Ships there.

[QUOTE="Brahmaputra Mail, post: 8041028, member: 174263"if intent was anti-piracy operation then a full-fledged base near Gulf of Aden would have served the purpose. For example- Turning Oman's naval listening post to full-fledged naval base and turning it into a naval airbase too. I wonder what is the need when Madagascar serves the purpose.[/QUOTE]
Here every one are shouting what is the need for a base in seychelles, do you any one of you know where all your oil and coal come from, our govt always ignored security to the Indian merchant navy, they are in tears for not getting security, this is the same reason India became a poor country from a golden bird, satavahanas were rich because they earned a lot from escorting merchant navy ships, one has to study hard before facing competitive exams, and one should not feel sorry when the exams have come and you are not prepared, many are saying why the drain, do any of you know how much we are been drained by pirates, and our navy while chasing has no place to Berth and replenish, we have to wait till a birth is given by the foreign countries and have to pay a lot for replenishing, and also those who are in the real estate business know the value of a plot, you have to eat when you are served, if you if you turn your back you will be never be able to get it, the Chinese are already building their bases and Seychelles had offered the same island to both India and China, think if the Chinese were there and they made a blockade to Indian merchant ships or create nusence, than as usual will you run to uncle Sam and beg, only a country which has a future vision will succeed, if the Britishers had thought like you people, england would never would have become a world power.

Not me.
Let the USN , the Japanese, the Koreans, the Australians and other littoral countries do that. Time for IN to secure the Southern Indian Ocean.

We should actually work to get Seychelles up in a major way. Also, it would make sense to improve relations with Somalia. Pump in infrastructure projects and get a naval base operational there. It would be the first step of our Africa strategy.

India's influence is increasing while ours is decreasing. Countries that used to give us on arrival visas like Sri Lanka now do not. Very unfortunate and a wake up call for us. We always see things optimistically but I think we should look at ourselves much more critically. We have no allies left other than China and Turkey-which also do not give us on arrival visas.

Spare me your rant. Oil doesn't come from there. Oil comes from Saudi Arabia and other GCC countries, far away from Seychelles. And for that a naval base closer to Gulf of Aden serves the purpose. Besides there's a security cooperation between countries in order to give escort to merchant ships. Not entire sea lanes are susceptible to piracy, only those closer to Gulf of Aden. As for coal we already have enough coal to support our consumption. Madagascar serves the purpose for now.
