This was most likely how they got to conducting the raid on 6th December 2012 in the first place. They would't have just raided the office just like that, they had reason to believe MQM was involved in money laundering. Now we know what that reason was, or at least part of it.

They obviously knew about it before, but it took them a while to build up the case and request a search warrant.

My first question is why is this being released now after three years? Why was it kept under wraps for so long? You would think the London authorities would have shared this with Pakistan at some point?

No contradiction bhai jaan, in the UK they have something called due process. Their system involves a lot of paperwork and some preliminary evidence, indication or reasoning is required for them to obtain search warrants. This was part of the case that let them raid the office in the first place.
