F-16 Mid-life Update
Introduction
At the end of the 1980s the US Air Force began to study an avionics upgrade for the F-
16A/B and also attracted interest from four European NATO air forces that also operated the
F-16. Netherlands, Belgium, Norway and Denmark. US upgradeds more than 300 F16s for euorpe through dis programe.
The MLU up gradation has following Characteristics
Modular mission Computer
MMC is used for the management and control of
Weopens Sys
HMD a new thing being added
HUD
MMC is the basically the same as CIP of F22Raptor
30LRM slots in MMC racks
.
MMC has four functional Areas:
1 Data processing set (DPS);
2Avionics display set (ADS) interfacing with the HUD;
3Avionics I/O (AIOS) interfacing with the avionics units;
4Power set (PS) controlling the power supplies and conditioning.
RADAR of MLU
It is AN/APG66 (V)2A
It can 10 track targets while scan
TWST capability
It has some great A2A an d ground mapping capability
A new digital processor and enhanced Radar processor.
And low in volume wait and need less energy for coolind so less burden
Multiplexing bus is included in RADAR
Advanced identification of Friend or foe AIFF with APX 113 V using transponding
HUD is widely angled
MFDs are also included
Communication and navigations sys are integrated with data entry mechanisms
Enhanced stick grip using HOTAS
Communication is secured with latest modulator demodulator equipment in ultra high freq mode.
Terin profile matching using TAPROM architecture.
GPS enhanced features
LANTIRN .. a navigation targeting pod
F16 MLU MULTIPLEXING ARCHITECTURE
MUX A is the avionics bus integrating different avionic sys
MUX D is the displays bus integratin diff avionic sys
MUX W is the weapons bus controlled by the stores management system for rapid firing and rapid data transmission to guided system
Total of nine store station for pods missile systems and etc
Reference Avionics and modern trends by Shaz Broanski
Now push thanks button
