Common Girl names in Hindu and Muslim(Pakistan only)

. . .
Depends on region. Most common name in girls is Ayesha, Fatimah, Zainab etc

In Islam you can name what ever you want to name your kid, just meaning of that name should not be something which is against the teaching of Islam. eg. you can not call your daughter Diana , since that is some goddess name in some mythology, which you can name her Elizabeth which means oath of God. You will find many girls named Elishbah which is the Hebrew equivalent of Elizabeth.
In Indonesia they still use Hindu names !!

Frankly in South Asia this not done because of equal number of Hindus and Muslims in that area. I guess for difference only Arabic or Persian name are used.

What does Kiran means? In Urdu its the sun light , which is a good word I guess

Thanks. yeah meaning of Kiran is same as you said, basically a Sanskrit word. But, it's one of the many unique names which will be given to Boys also. This is mostly used by Hindus, both in India as well as in Nepal.

Actually, most of these names that the OP mentioned mean the same in Hindi and Urdu, with the associated meaning derived from Sanskrit rather than Persian. Kiran means Light in Hindi and Sanskrit too and is one of the names of the Sun God Surya.

Stage name. Veena is not a Name - being commonly used in Pakistan.
True. That was more in jest. Haven't heard of any Indian Muslim having that name either. But what the OP mentioned, I've heard Indian Muslims having a few of those names too.

Am just curious to know. I did see some Pakistanis have names like Kiran, Meena, Meera, Rati, seema, Ameesha etc. I thought these are Hindu names, is there any connection/reason these are used for Muslims also?

Out of all the names you have mentioned, I have heard only two used commonly by Muslims and the reason is they are Urdu words. Kiran in Urdu means " a ray of light " and Seema means " face or countenance ".

For boys there is a common name between Hindus and Muslims ( Worldwide ) and that is SAMEER or SAMIR. This name is common amongst Hindus in India and Muslims Worldwide.

veena/vina-vena more like it in pushto means blood and or also "to see" like I saw you in a dream/ ta pa khob kay vina-um.

.
does that show any common root (sanskrit language) between the two countries or is this just a coincidence?

They aren't a coincidence by any stretch. A few names having Sanskrit origins are indeed still in use by the Muslim Community of our Subcontinent. And the reason being that they were adopted into the vocabulary of Punjabi, Sindhi and Urdu.

Even the names of some Weekdays used in Urdu have Sanskrit roots - Mangal, Budh, Sanichar and Itwaar.

What are common names among Pakistani Hindus may also depend upon where they come from and which community they belong to. Some of the women I interacted with during the last year were named Sindhiya, Maneesha, Sohani and Preeta. All from lower to central Sindh.

There are common names between Muslims and Hindus in Pakistan, and between Christians and Hindus too. I remember Aneel (and Anila), Maahaa and Kiran, mostly also from my stint last year. From among Christians, Sunil.

these are generic names, heavy usage by Hindus make them look so, otherwise its common.

but I would like to hear more generic or regional, not related to religion names with their meaning...can you do that for me?
