Coming Soon: Japanese 25PF Supercomputer Oakforest-PACS

IMO the only field that might need such computational power is space exploration...hope they put it to unravel the mysteries of the space
And another potential area is advanced simulation (of everything), that can be simulated.

simulation is the most important application for super computer. Simulation for everything!

.
14 gflops/watt, twice what Shenwei 26010 is capable of

Oakforest-PACS will consume less than 3MW of power.....what a efficient little beast of a machine it will be.

Shenwei TaihuLight is 3 times what Titan is capable of, how come I did not see your excitement? Anybody but Chinese?

my excitement? in another thread I said I was impressed by TaihuLight :D considering it uses Chinese processors and efficient compared to Tianhe-2

2017 is the year of U.S dominance once again.

Knight Hill and Volta will make sure of that :enjoy:

Yes, you did. My bad. :enjoy:

.
3.05 Tflops at 215 watt I thought that's how you get the Gflops/watt, maybe I'm wrong I dunno :cray:

14-16 Gflops/watt seems about right
But that is only for the CPU itself, other system not included. BTW I thought the unit for 3.05 is in GFLOPS

no it's completed :D

shame Japanese didn't go all in with a 150 PF system.
It is a shame that Japanese can only plan 200 petaflops computer in 2024, that is 8 years from now, while someone else is already to have a 132 exaflops computer in just 4 years.

the Intel chips by themselves will consume 1.7MW the other 1.3MW I left for memory, storage, and cooling :coffee:
So, that will pit against its peak 25 petaflops, and it is actually 8.33 gflops/watts. So Taihulight's peak 125 petaflops against 15.371 MW is 8,16 gflops/watt
