Urdu rap and heavy metal collide in Coke Studio's latest song 'Ye Dunya'​

The nu-metal song is performed by Talha Anjum, Faris Shafi and Karakoram the Band.

Two music genres collided as Coke Studio brings together Karakoram, Talha Anjum and Faris Shafi for 'Yeh Dunya', the seventh song from season 14 released today (Feb 12).

'Ye Dunya' asks what most of us do at some point in our lives — do our struggles of proving ourselves to the world even matter? Karakoram, Anjum and Shafi take this doubt head on in a song that expands on the standard rock lineup, delivering a power-packed music composition.


The nu-metal song is the brainchild of Coke Studio's producer Xulfi and associate music producer Sherry Khattak. The song has been written by Adnan Dhool, Talha Anjum, Faris Shafi and Xulfi. According to Coke Studio, the song is meant to unfold "almost like a therapy session, with the artists acknowledging each other’s burdens. Anjum is coolly philosophical. Shafi brings the realness, soothing Sherry Khattak's primal scream with the confirmation that he is not alone".

The music video's art director, Harris Khatri, places the song's performers in a construction zone. Boxes of digitised colour rise from the ground with the performers on top, "promising to take them from blackness to somewhere vivid". Video director Zeeshan Parwez adds augmented reality motion graphics around each artist to express "how fused we are with the warp-speed world of technology".


Fans are ecstatic about finally getting a Shafi and Anjum music collaboration.

They also love the diverse range of musical styles and genres Coke Studio is dishing out this season.

All in all, listeners love this latest nu-metal banger.

If there’s one thing that can be said about Hasan Raheem, Talal Qureshi and the Justin Bibis’ latest Coke Studio offering Peechay Hutt, it’s that the track is bound to get you grooving. Featuring beats by Qureshi, Raheem’s signature mumble, as well as a powerful chorus by the Bibis, the song, as well as its accompanying music video, oozes electric Gen-Z energy along with a message to match.

The track marks the Coke Studio debut of all three artists, with the official press release of the song stating that Peechay Hutt is an attempt to “embrace the sound and icons of the future”.

Speaking about his first CS outing, Raheem shared, “Coke Studio has shaped me up in a way that I’ve grown artistically, and as a person, for which I’ll always be thankful for.”

Reflecting on his experience, Qureshi explained, “My experience with coke studio has been an amazing one, everyone involved in this project did an amazing job. It's encouraging to see Coke Studio actively push a fresh sound and fresher talent. I'm proud to be a part of evolving our music industry and pushing the bounds of what Pakistani music can be. With all that said, Peechay Hutt.”

The song found much praise online, with singer Meesha Shafi sharing her excitement over the track overall, as well as over seeing the Justin Bibis on Coke Studio, writing, “Look at these queens,” on her Instagram stories.

Actor Mahira Khan also expressed her love of the song by sharing Coke Studio’s Instagram post about the track on her story, adding a fire emoji to signal her approval.

Singer Haroon Shahid, ready to embrace the Pakistani music scene’s Gen-Z wave, wrote on Twitter, “There’s a new music scene in Pakistan and it’s growing on me.”

Many fans of the song were particularly enamoured with the chorus by the Justin Bibi’s.

However, several listeners on Twitter were disappointed with the track, claiming that it did not live up to the hype and expectations. Many Hasan Raheem fans took to the microblogging site to share that they did not believe the singer’s full potential was realised in the song.

'Pasoori' is one of the most popular songs to come out of Coke Studio's season 14. It's been on the airwaves for weeks and apart from the lure of Ali Sethi's magical voice and the reggaeton-inspired beat, we can't help but dig Sethi's co-singer Shae Gill and her extraordinary vocals in the song. Sethi dubbed Gill the 'Dua Lipa of Pakistan' — but who exactly is she and how did she start out as a singer?

After a recent interview given to Spotify, Gill's fans and listeners got a glimpse into who she is as a person and singer. "I am a 23-year-old artist from Lahore," said the 'Pasoori' singer, introducing herself in the video.

When asked about how her musical journey began, Gill revealed how it started in her bestie's room. "It started from my best friend's room in the hostel where we lived together and we just started making videos then and that's how Shae Gill started," she said.

Who are some of Gill's musical influences? The singer gave quite the thoughtful answer to that. "I'd say people who live life passionately," she said. She was also asked what it was like performing 'Pasoori, the answer to which was: "a whole lot of fun".

Gill is eager to take the next big steps in her music career and wants to collaborate with the Urdu rap duo Young Stunners as well as the talented A.R. Rahman. Not a bad idea at all.

She has some big plans for 2022. "I want to start writing and I want to start learning classical music," she shared.

Gill earlier won our hearts with a video of her reacting to the 'Pasoori' MV as she watched it for the very first time.

Gill's reaction had Coke Studio's executive producer, Xulfi, all teary-eyed in the comment section. Even Sethi made an appearance there and raved about his co-singer. "Shae Gill I’ve had a hundred people tell me you are 'the Dua Lipa of Pakistan' (you are you, and there’s no one like you)," he said.

We are eager to listen to more from Gill and can't wait to see what the "Dua Lipa of Pakistan" has in store for us after 'Pasoori'.
