I think the UN opting against extending arms sanctions on Iran may also have an impact. Basically, Pakistan may now have a lower-cost energy source (by virtue of being right next to Iran) moving forward. Energy basically eats most of our foreign/hard currency, so even a 40-50% savings on that front would be very significant economically.I think things aren't as off-track as some are trying to make them.
In my view, what was said by the FM was a very calibrated view after careful deliberations to get the Saudis to move. It was said not to insult but rather to reflect the mood on the Pakistani street. The message being that Pakistan is willing to play the ball but KSA also needs to do its part in mobilizing support for Kashmir.
OIC on the whole is a pretty ineffective org., as such the sole benefit for Pakistan via OIC is to get publicity and a stance which keeps India on notice with regards to Kashmir. So what Pakistan is asking for is not a mountain to be delivered by the Saudis.
I also believe that if the Saudis don't do what Pakistan is nudging them to do, it is the Saudis that stand to lose their reputation as being one of the leading voices in the global Muslim affairs. In other words, Pakistan is simply bringing the issue to the Saudi attention and suggesting "this one is yours to lose. If you cannot help us, we will go to other non-aligned entities." This does not mean that Pakistan will break ties with the KSA, nor does it mean that KSA becomes inconsequential. It will mean on the Kashmir issue, Pakistan will look for other allies.
It also lessens KSA and UAE's leverage in Pakistan.
However, there's another aspect which may be a little contentious: exporting arms to Iran. If Iran opts for the JF-17 from AVIC, then PAC will manufacture and export a % of the order. This may also spell the entry of PAF contractors to help the Iranians induct, operationalize, and deploy the fighter for a few years.
