General Raheel has done extremely well. Through his actions, he has proven to be the best COAS ever in the history of Pakistan. But one things people often forget that the failure is more on the civilians side now. They had the chance to put things right but have failed miserably with no reform agenda in placed..

You can sugar coat it as much as possible. You can hail them all as heroes and put their frames all around Pakistan.
THE FACT: 65 years of lies and betrayal, false hopes, unchecked corruption is the result thus far. Nothing has been achieved and things have only gone worse
Now jeeway jeeway Raheel sharif AKA Iron Man wouldn't make anything better on ground
But if this makes all fan boys happy, then jeeway jeeway Rahil sharif, jiyeee Rahil Sharif

I find it ironic that the same people praising him for his many accomplishments, are now attacking General Raheel Sharif for doing nothing for the country. Perhaps it is because many of these people naively expected him to arrest corrupt politicians, or commit a coup; Maybe they expected him to stop terrorism altogether.

Thanks for replying.

Your views are exactly the type that I'm taking about. People's expectations and ground reality are so far apart, it's a wonder that Pakistan is hasn't been absorbed by India.

Keyani was around when the army was deeply unpopular, and was trying to rebuild the army's image. That included no interfering with internal politics, and depoliticizing the army to a certain extent. The criticisms he faces are unjustifiable.

General Raheel Sharif has done what must be done. The people's hopes of a terrorism free Pakistan should never have been with him, rather it should have been with the army. He has NOT failed anyone, and I challenge anyone to prove me otherwise. He has done better than most people gave him credit for. People expected him to be a failure, considering that he was the man that NS personally picked, ignoring more senior officers that were expected to be picked.

General Raheef Sharif has succeeded in every way.

At least that's my opinion.
We are emotional nation who don't quite use the brain to judge our leaders. Normally people have short memory and are short sighted. One can still find the threads with people opinion about him and NS decision of picking him over others. The interesting thing is the General doesn't seems to care much about what others will think about him. Current chief is not giving attention about his image, he just doing the due and fulfilling his job. When he says he will retire on time I think he is making a point that don't look towards me but look towards army. We as nation should learn to have faith in institutions and system instead of looking or following individuals.

Raheel Sharif is not a miracle worker. He took over when militancy was at its peak. Nowadays I'm hearing that terrorism is becoming less common. You can't fix this problem over night. However, he's the one that significantly reduced it. Give credit where it's due.

He did good under worst lot of corrupt politicians.. I pray that next one will be more ruthless against corrupt feudal mafia..

He has done a magnificent job.

getting Fazlullah out from Afghanistan with the help of Americans will be a good finishing move. American help is needed because TTP has active and dedicated support of Afghan intelligence and possibly Indians as well.
Latifullah was snatched by Americans from Afghan intelligence and he mentioned meeting Indians too.

That's the real nut to crack. Or shall I say skull?

Gen Kayani did a splendid job. People have forgotten he took full brunt of American interference in Pakistan via Haqqani, Rehman Malik and Haqqani trioka. He did a fine job with Swat. He had to handle Salala and Abottabad incidents which were in all fairness very difficult to maneuver. He did a lot for soldiers in Army, updated hospitals and roads in Cant. Rawalpindi is beautiful now due to his personal efforts. I think his decision to award contracts of construction to his brothers which may have been taken in best interest of Army as the civ contracts with thakedars results in sub standard construction, did eventually become the reason for his downfall, brothers probably were not angels either. Zardari reportedly showed him the file of his brothers corruption at a time where he had hard pressed Zardari. He was most hated person in Langely and white house. His decision to not to attack NW was probably to nurture Haqqanis for probable Taliban surge with US departure.

For Gen RS APS changed everything. Haqqanis were no more the priority at cost of attacks like APS. He did I think what most Gens wouldn't have done. Can you imagine the pressure if the feared backlash had indeed occurred. Timely IBOs and hard work by forces in a good command network is the medal on his chest. However there is a limit of maneuvering you can do if not directly in power.

Pakistani nation is a very strange nation. We do not expect anything from politicians though we dance on dhol at their victory in elections and expect army to handle everything that they mess up. Before a democracyphilic turns up zealously to disparage army interference throughout history I ask these are the same political faces from many years what stops them to act in a responsible manner? Who stops them from improving health and education? They feel a lot of pain if foreign policy and national security is not in civil domain , what about what is in their domain? Look at hospitals, not even fit for animal medical care. Schools? Tourism? Economy?

What we need an honest brave civil leader to put the things on track, a true patriot. Good luck

This is a Pakistan's internal matter but my observation as an outside person has been that every general in Pakistan has always been praised when in power and has been condemned once they were out of power.

Not sure what is the reason though..

I say media plays the role in this all praising and criticizing.

.
He has given his best. A mess from past 60 plus years can't be cleaned out within numbered years. Pakistan is not just facing terrorism, but some serious internal problems as well.
Military decisions and government decisions go together. You can't ignore one or the other, while taking any decision. Now, if we expect 100 % result from Mr. Raheel in every aspect, that won't be fair enough.

Him accepting an extension was never going to happen or implied in any shape or form. It was always expected that the government would offer him the extension because they have to and he will, respectfully, decline.

As for his performance, he's been the best COAS that I have certainly witnessed in my lifetime. And him not accepting the extension is one of the reasons why.

RS has done his job to best of his ability and it is best he leaves when his time is up. This will set a good example for the future generals. As many have already said that Army is an institution and not a one man (Rambo type) army. The senior generals in the army went through the same training and process but some will be more suited to the COAS job than others due to their personality, courage, charisma and ability to deal with complex issues (things are not black and white at that level).

Since Pakistan's inception not a single govt was able to complete its tenure apart from 2008-2013 govt. How can you lose faith in a system if you don't give it time? Just like we have not given dictatorship of a single leader due time as well. Thus we have failed to implement any one system and bcz of this we have suffered a lot. If you want raheel to tackle corruption ( not his job at all) then give him power and dont whine ten years later that we can't stand it ..
Democracy is the right of people and we have given the tools to write our own fates. If you find nawaz incompetent and corrupt then don't elect him. He is elected bcz he has support. We as a nation loom for saviours and thus would rather sit back and do nothing and let the saviours handle this but that's not how reality works. We have to get and do the work to improve our nation

The above quotes sums up nicely what has happened and what the confused masses should focus on. People hoped a lot from RS but 3 years is not enough to fix all those problems. I will also stress that it is not his job to fix judiciary and other ills in Pakistan. This is the duty of every man, woman and child/youth. If the Army and government is failing to provide people with what they want then they can start cooperatives initiatives to resolve problems in their villages, towns and cities.

The following extract from one of Quaid's speeches: (this is speaking to the civil servants)
“You have to do your duty as servants; you are not concerned with this political or that political party; that is not your business. It is a business of politicians to fight out their case under the present constitution or the future constitution that may be ultimately framed. You, therefore, have nothing to do with this party or that party. You are civil servants."

People should concentrate on performing their jobs to best of their ability, honestly and justly. This will take care of most of the problems.
