According to one Estimation, Thar Coal Reserve are around 850 trillion cubic feet which are equal 400 brillion barrels of oil equal to the oil reserves of Suadi Arab and Iran put together but total investment required $4 bn. By using only 2% of coal Pak could generate around 20,000 megawatts of electricity for almost 40 yrs. Why Government is not taking action regarding this.

They did Benazir initiated contracts with Siemens, European Energy Consortium and so on to build up to 20 Coal and Gas power stations, which would produce around 15.000MW it was also agreed to build a Mega Power city, however, Nawaz Sharif felt this would permanently take away his votes so he helped the establishment to rid of this Mega Power city, sending goons and making News editors write malice against it, the same malice that said that Benazir was giving fuel to India when she initiated the IPI with Iran.

The progress in the end was that there were few Power Stations built by the consortium of which we use most of the power of. The rest have refused to work with Pakistan, it was a one of deal, the consortium would build the Power station and would be allowed to leave when they wish they would also be allowed to choose the price of unit. This was to make them come into Pakistan, Benazir knew that they would not be able to charge high as they were going to have to compete against each other for price, in present we have a elite group that has bought all the National Power stations, they were sold off during Musharraf era to Saudis, Chaudris and group of generals. The terms were that they were wealthy and powerful and therefore would add more Power station grids at their own cost. They never did.

I think it's nationalization time again. The govt of the last 8 years has sold everything that wasn't nailed down, everything that was nailed down and even some stuff that was under the ground. No wonder the forex reserves got so high, it wasn't just pakistani souls they were selling for $5,000 a pop. :hitwall:
