China asks Philippine government for fairness in treatment of fishermen

12 Chinese fishermen have been charged with poaching by the government of the Philippines.

The charges came after the men’s boat foundered on a protected coral reef. If convicted, the men could serve as much as 12 years behind bars and be forced to pay a fine of $300,000 US, according to an official from the Tubbataha reef park, a Unesco World Heritage site. A United States vessel also crashed into the same reef in January and is also currently facing fines.

The Chinese fishing boat ran aground in the Sulu Sea, where the reef is located, on Monday. According to Philippine officials, the fishermen told them “they reached the reef by accident from Malaysia.” Chinese officials have been allowed to visit with the men who are currently being held in Palawan province.

Alen Ross Rodriguez, a local official in Palawan has said, "We will seek to quickly prosecute and resolve this case… No-one can just enter our waters and willfully destroy our marine life." For their part, “the Chinese government is calling on the Philippines to guarantee the safety and rights of the Chinese fishermen,” according to CRI.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei has issued a statement which reads: "The Chinese government has always attached great importance to safety of fishermen fishing overseas, at the same time has instructed and administered their fishing activities overseas. After learning that the Philippines detained and charged the Chinese fishermen, the Foreign Ministry immediately asked the Chinese embassy in the Philippines to send requests to the Philippine side to effectively ensure legal rights and safety of the Chinese fishermen."

In addition to the charges being brought against the fishermen stemming from the primary act of running aground on the reef, the fishermen also stand accused of trying to bribe the wildlife park rangers who took them into custody.

I hear your point, but during the mean time that we 'spare' them, they pose a risk to fleet support. Nay, their entire navy would have to be neutralized. Starting with their 'remodeled' carrier.

Nah, their "remodelled" Carrier is nothing but a floating platform, how many J-15 they claim they have now? No more than 10.

Let their floating platform run wild, it just a, well, I don't know what they are actually.

But I still say, their so-called-navy are no match to even one of our fleet, why bother to even touch them. If you are very keen on destroying the Chinese fleet, we can always do it at the end of the engagement when we had some fun with it, who know, maybe we would get our boys some experience fighting a "World Class" navy.

Posting more picture will make American Daddy angry :D

Why did you bring up Boxer Rebellion. Remember Philippine-American War?
We got occupied by American Big Daddy

You think we will be mad for something the world know Chinese could never have done it. LOL

We only laugh at the Chinese ignorant. HEHE

If war are won by posting some picture of imaginary killing enemy ship, then North Korean could had already reunited South under their own rules :)

Their navy is diminutive by American standards, however, in order to gain complete dominance and protect fleet support, the PLAN should be exterminated; if not all, at least the overwhelming majority of their surface ships and their subs.

I do agree with you, in an air war, we would annihilate the PLAAF, thereby exposing their cities to unchallenged US aerial precision strikes. In order for maximum damage to occur, a combined aerial and naval attack would be needed.

In regards to the hypothetics, the US Pacific Fleet would have to implement a screen force with the Japanese Maritime SDF, where in which our cruisers, destroyers and frigates would eradicate the PLAN's North Sea Fleet , then their South Sea Fleet.

6 carrier battle groups with fleet support would be necessary in the evisceration of the PLAN.

The results would be akin to the 1st and 2nd Sino-Japanese War, the unprecedented defeat of the Chinese Naval Force.

The SCS/WPS is of vital interests, by the way. The natural gas reserves there is unprecedented. Our Philippine friends have a "pot of gold" , he he he. :azn:

Fancy strategy but your forgetting they have nukes and they are an integral part of their strategic defence. I notice you seem to be egging for a conflict with China. Has China done anything other than the usual cyperspying and humit to provoke such outburst from you. The intel they are doing or learning to do is normal and we ourselves are the masters, so why the passion for "sinking PLAN etc" The Chinese bots in this site are drunk with such fanboy scenarios but that is what fanboys do. We normally are grounded in reality.

Stop using the word "chi*ko" you are offending Chinese people and people of Chinese descent.

About the war, our country was independent from Spain. The First Philippine Republic was born. On Feb 4, 1899, fighting between Phil and American troops erupted, escalating into Battle of Manila and by June 4, the war was declared. TheAmericans defeated us and later became a commonwealth of US. Anyway, this is out of topic.

Chinese ship removed from Tubbataha arrives in Puerto Princesa | News | GMA News Online

A day after it was removed from Tubbataha Reef, a Chinese fishing vessel arrived at Puerto Princesa City port in Palawan Saturday morning, the Philippine Coast Guard said.

The vessel arrived at 8:30 a.m. and was now safely anchored and kept under tight watch by the Coast Guard, state-run Philippines News Agency reported.

PNA quoted Coast Guard spokesman Lt. Cmdr. Armand Balilo as saying they will secure the vessel until the Tubbataha Management Office and other concerned agencies decide what to do with the vessel.

Balilo added there was "no danger of any oil spill" as the vessel's hull was intact.

Last April 8, the vessel ran aground on Tubbataha Reef, some three months after a similar grounding involving the minesweeper USS Guardian.

USS Guardian was removed from the area only last March 30.

In the later incident, the 12 Chinese aboard the fishing vessel were arrested and charged for poaching and attempting to bribe park rangers.

They are now detained at the Palawan Provincial Jail.

On Friday, the Chinese vessel was pulled clear of the reef by the salvage tugboat MT Limay.
